Sam, these types of videos make a huge difference for some of us. I’ve been pretty ignorant when it comes to keeping track of my nutrition throughout my life, and your detailed videos really got me on track in terms of counting my macros, getting more dialed in, and getting healthier. Recently diagnosed with prediabetes (I’m 160lb boxer) and I’ve gone ocd obsessed with reversing it since. Completely changed my entire way of life to fix this. I credit a lot of my ability to do so from you man. You taught me a lot of different tricks and ways to do this. Thanks bro

Can I ask what caused the diabetes? Like from unhealthy habits or just genetic factors, considering you are a 160lb boxer I wouldn't think it would be from unhealthy habits, just genuinely curious.

I worked as a trainer for years and I would actually go with clients regularly on grocery trips like this to teach them all the ins and outs of what they should be doing, why and how to count properly. People are always amazed at how impactful the tracking and a few sacrifices would get them. Sam you can use a colander with a bowl under it and just poor the beef in in the colander. Let it sit and shake a couple times until you get the desired amount of fat off. Put foil in the bowl as well and you can even wrap the fat in the foil and throw it away. Wrap means just pinch the corners together to make a sack looking thing.

as a tip from an actual butcher, that stuff that they wrap is from inhouse in that store. it isnt 96% that is a "goal average" that they aim for when they do fat tests but it can range depending on the batch, however that goes for all ground beef you see. the % on the package is what they aim for but it can turn out to be leaner or fattier than that by a few % just dont think because one says 96 and the other says 93 or 94 the 96% package is automatically leaner.. the only way to really know is by running a fat test in a fat testing machine.. chances are they are all basically the same. to get 96% lean, would be like 100% bullmeat from a tube..

Hey Sam, great video! I see you track macros, but I personally track protein and calories. The reason I do this is because things don't always seem to add up on the nutrition labels. For example, when you mentioned 32g of ketchup and showed the label, it showed 1g/0g/0g of carbs/fat/protein, so you said 2g of carbs which would be 8 calories. However the calories count for 16g is 10. This tells me that they are doing some heavy rounding on the macros, whether up or down, or on the calories. So I find that at least for cutting, I would use the calories (20) for 2 servings better than using the 2g/8cal from carbs. At 52 servings, the whole bottle would put you at 520 calories or 208 calories (via carbs). Big difference which I think comes down to rounding 3 times (once for each macro) v. rounding once for calories. I've noticed this on many foods I eat, with the vast majority of them giving a calorie count higher than the stated macros. Any thoughts on the rounding of nutrition labels, or if I'm mathing wrong? The best of both worlds would be tracking all macros, but also calories separately maybe?

Thanks for the grocery trip and talk. Counting macros with an app counter is absolutely crucial like you mentioned and also agree you can get lost with going over with condiments. Honestly, me starting my macro counting a month ago had already made huge progress and I'm not even weighing anything out yet. I still have a long road, I'll get there soon though. What else I use as a helpful tool are places like Chipotle and their Nutrient Calculator on their website. Its so helpful to count your macros when on the go or when you can't get back to the house to eat your meal. I tried that hamburger bowl you made and oh my goodness! Game Changer! I add my 1lb beef, ketchup, mustard, dill relish on some minute rice, perfect meal and don't miss the bun. I'll try the Carb Smart you got at some point. It's funny cause I was at the store yesterday planning my burger bowl for today and immediately thought of Sam. Got to get that Relish :).

"Fiber is what is the word glucose chains" LOL no glucose chains is starch in like rice, potatoes etc. that we can digest. You have enzyme in your saliva to break down that glucose chain hehe.. Fiber is simply type of sugar or plant matter that our digestion can't break down and absorb. But our microbiome can in case of soluble fiber for example like pectin that is in beans, apples or beta glucane that is in oats and mushrooms etc.. But looking at ingredience list 12:55 of that tortilla that I call really bad junk food. I mean hydrogenated soybean oil? That is literally poison. Ask every holistic doctor that knows nutrition.. Eat some real fiber from low calorie stuff like broccoli, green beans, asparagus, onions, mushrooms... That is the stuff you should cook with your meat and eggs anyway.. Keep in mind that not eating any good sources of fiber you will be bloated and farting a lot first 10 days or so. After that you will be ok. That is the case for legumes like beans as well. People fart after eating them because they are not eating them daily, but maybe once ever 14 days.. Once you eat beans daily you no longer fart or have any bloat.. Microbiome needs food don't forget that.. Unless you want to end up with colon cancer or something like that.. Not to mention you need fiber for detoxing old bile from your liver.. Without soluble fiber that old bile loaded with toxins is just reabsorbed and can't be eliminated form your body with you poop.. Btw canned sardines if they are in water not oil are hardly high fat.. Not to mention that most of that fat is omega3 (EPA/DHA) SO if you eat some extra fat you want to be exactly that.. So you avoided the best type of fat and instead you got hydrogenated soybean oil in fake tortilla which is by far the worst kind of fat lol.. Looking only on macros good for your short term physique goal, but horrible for your long term health..

Amazing Sam. This is the video I was waiting for so long. I'm down to 6% BF and every thing you said is exactly what I do. Other people see me as crazy for tracking everything but it is a MUST to achieve insane level of definition. A few of my favorite recipes are mashed potatoes done with fat free milk. Mashed broccoli and mashed zucchini. Those really help with the cravings and considering the volume they have you can end up full without consuming that many calories.

I’m going down my first real cut right now at the same time as you. I started dabbling with some of those tiktok low cal high protein “cake” recipes. Its been helping me a lot with my cravings. I made small individuals loaf at around 280cal and 22g proteins, pair that with two small containers of low fat greek yogurt and you got a nice snack/meal full of proteins. Low the videos Sam, it’s motivating me to keep at it! I’m the leanest i ever been right now and want to lose a few more pounds so all the tricks in the books are welcomed at this point! Keep those videos coming my friend! 💪🏼

Dont buy the pre-packaged deli meats. Most grocery stores have a deli section where you get freshly sliced meats.

Love how you properly stressed tracking macros and calories + explained the reason why they’re important. I’m shocked how you eat like an absolute monster though, I think Coach Greg would tell you to look at his cookbook!
