Sandbag Workout for beginners - Weightloss and Strength building

I put this workout together early this morning. I wanted a real "wake up call" so I focused on mostly compound movements...hybrid exercises to work multiple body parts simultaneously. This workout is intense with the short rest periods but easy to follow and beginner friendly. If you need more time between rounds just hit the pause button. Hope you enjoy it! :-)
SANDBAG TOTAL BODY WORKOUT
1)Clean and Squat (Upper Body/Quads)
2) Side Lunge + Front Raise (Right) (Quads/Glutes/Delts/Pecs)
3) Side Lunge + Front Raise (Left) (Quads/Glutes/Delts/Pecs)
4)
Sumo Squat + High Pull (Glutes/Quads/Back/Traps)
5)
Kneeling “Around the Worlds” (Core/Shoulder Mobility)
6) Lateral Pull + Spider Crawl (Core)

Perform each exercise for 40 seconds. Rest 20 seconds between each exercise.
Rest 60 seconds then repeat for a total of 3 rounds.

Thanks Achmed....we figured there's already ALOT of those channels so our goal was to keep things simple with timers and audio cues, optional music (you can play your own) and the ability to train in a less "Manufactured" environment. Glad you found us!!

Today was my first sandbag workout. I used 30 lbs and that was enough. For now. I realized a few things. 1) this workout made me sweat harder than doing just cardio. 2) my muscles are feeling like they are more activated than doing cardio, and I’m sure if I checked my heart rate it feels like 160 ish now compaired to probably 195. I’m out of shape big time and enjoy lifting weights. This activity was everything I wanted. I look forward to doing more of your workouts!

This was the first of your workouts i did. Loved it. I love the list of exercises at the beginning and also during the rest periods. Was great to see the evolution of this since previous workouts. Keep em coming! Thank you for interesting and fun workouts!

these are fantastic, i've done a couple of them and now i've started going through them sequentially on my off days from heavy lifting as a sort of intense active rest days. great work, and personally i love that there is no music or talking at all, means i can just have my own music on and really get into it!

I just got my own strength bags and a kettlebell yesterday I meen I love training in the gym with bars and cables and dunbells but I’m super exited to see what implementing kettlebells and strength bags adds to my game.. I’m subscribed thanks for the workout

I am absolutely loving these sandbag workouts. The silence helps you concentrate on what you need to do. I have started to explore the dumbbell workout, which went well. I am wondering if there is a possibility that you guys may do a battle rope routine?

Glad you like them Craig and really appreciate you joining us here!! Yeah the lack of music is something people either love or hate...the idea was never so much to workout in silence as it was to play whatever motivates YOU and we'll just give you the time cues...but if silence works thats great to!! haha. As far as battle ropes goes I will definitely consider this one...the only issue with battle ropes workouts is that it would be a REALLY small audience and for the amount time/effort that goes into creating these workouts we try to stick to the more popular stuff that will bring in an audience. But I DEFINITELY will look at putting a battle rope workout together at some point to test the waters as you never know!! ;-) cheers pal -Regan

Getting into my first sandbag workout not sure what to do but I’m glad I fell on this video not sure I can do three rounds but I’m def in need of losing weight and this will be a great start. Plus an all around body work out.

I know this was 3 years ago, but can I just say thank you for ACTUALLY creating a sandbag workout for, OH MY GOD, BEGINNERS! I got all these 300lb, muscular, been working out for 10+ years, manly men and I'm 1 year into my search for fitness, I am a woman, I have a bad back, bad knees, and I cannot do a 45# sandbag muthatruckin navy seal team David Damn Borneaz burpee. MAYBE I WILL BE ABLE TO, but I can't now and I'm tired of feeling bad about it. The whole point to this journey is to find stuff I can do so I don't hurt myself worse and so I can strengthen my body to do more, not hurt myself and have to take 2 months off. UGH. **END VENT** Thank you for doing a simple routine. I'll check you out more because you said below you are doing more sandbag workouts and I am interested. Also... SUBBED.

Good workout, just started with sand bag training although im sure mines is more of a heavy bag than sandbag. Done weights in my 20s then worked in a heavy lifting industry through my 30s. I walk dogs now so my my upper body doesnt get worked out at all. At 45 years old a lot of my strength has disappeared so getting back on track with these. I think i will do this for another week or so then add in more of a muscle focused video once a week. Early days but feeling good for it. Thanks.

I have been walking with a Sandbag for over 2.5 hours every other day for the last year or so. Moved from 7kg medicine ball to currently a 33kg Sandbag! My body has never looked better! You can do whatever you want to do and no need for gym membership although it's harder than going to the gym you get better results! Good tips in this video! Thanks

Awesome looking workout. Would this be the same as HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)? Like an AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible) style HIIT workout? I’m going to try this tomorrow.

Hey Tryinnosaurus....this workout is set up as a hiit workout however the exercises are more for lean muscle toning and functional movements. So you'll definitely burn up the calories however cardio is secondary to muscle tone for this particular one. I hope you enjoy it definitely let me know how it goes!! cheers -R

LOVE your workouts...where do you recommend getting a new sandbag from? I have an older one here I got for cheap on amazon...looking to replace.

Thanks so much @Rosavaldovinos! Sandbags are pretty cut and dry in that you get what you pay for. The ones on Amazon do the trick however they tend to not last as long....handles break off, fabric rips, leaks etc....so if you want to buy one and be done with it id recommend going with Rogue products, CoreFX, etc...something thick and durable. Hope this helps!

Love hearing this Alayan!!! If I were you id go for something thats 40-50lbs but has removable sand packets inside....this way you can fill the individual packets to 10lbs (for example) and if needed you can pull them out easily if you need to lighten the bag for certain workouts. Hope this helps! -R

Calorie burning greatly depends on a number of variables (age, sex, weight, currently level of conditioning, etc) but if I were to give you a blanket estimate youd be burning approximately 220-250 calories + residual burn after the fact. Thnks Bob. Happy to hear you enjoyed it....we purposely leave the music and chatter out of the workouts so you can crank your own music (if desired) and train as though you were at a gym. Some on here dislike it but glad you get it!! Cheers. -R

Hey Adam...I dont personally know of any sites that give calorie burning info specific to sandbag but as a rule of thumb for these workouts using the HIIT structure you'd be looking at around 220-270 calories + residual burn for most depending on the length. Hope this helps.

Hi Jordan, when filming I use an app called "interval timer" for my android and then in post production I sync in a better quality timer that I created so that its easier to hear.

Hey Jenstoner5, having it flop around is actually a good thing as it will work your stabilizer muscles harder. My bag is pretty stuffed bc its smaller and I wanted the extra weight but id prefer to have it more floppy like yours!

Hey Todd....my sandbag is made by CoreFX and is available in the US and Canada through online retailers. Its a heavy duty quality and great for traveling but is limited in how much weight you can pack into it. I currently use sand in mine and its approx 40-45lbs in weight. If youre using your sandbag at home I know some people put bags of rice inside their sandbags as its similar consistency but less mess (it sand leaking all over the house).

Hey @rainingsunshine25...so to answer your question, YES 3 times a week will be effective at least for a little while. Eventually however a couple of things will happen 1) Your conditioning will improve and the workout wont feel quite as effective 2) Your body will adapt to the choreography and will not feel as difficult for you. So my recommendation is listen to your body....if youre feeling the effects of the workout (tired/sore muscles, etc) than certainly keep at it but if it begins to feel a little less effective i would recommend jumping into one of our other Sandbag workouts just to shock the system a little bit!
