The 2024 C8 Corvette E-Ray adds electric power to the tried and true LT2 V8. We discuss the pros and cons with Corvette Engineers to showcase how this technology works and why it exists. After a deep dive into the engineering, we take it for a drive to discuss if the effort and weight were worth it for a nearly $107,000 price tag.

@oneonlyxram
@oneonlyxram 8 ай бұрын
First off, as an engineer I appreciate the type of depth you guys get into. The E-ray has been a car I'm rather interested in, I have been looking at the nsx, but the lack of tunablity and the v6 are my only draw backs (yes I've driven them). This c8 being a v8 is so appealing.

I think it’s great and it’ll also help with anyone who wants a Z06 because you’ll have cross sale but man if you want a daily driver sports car the E ray is fucking hard to beat they nailed it

@GoGoggansGo totally agree, besides there's other cars that are so much better track cars, so that would be a great weekend/daily car I agree.
@ribbiel
@ribbiel 8 ай бұрын
My personal problem specifically with the NSX is how I feel Honda didn't spend the time to make the car significantly unique. I understand their approach was to make the car extremely approachable and daily driveable, but I've spent time in the NSX and it doesn't give me the "fizz" as Clarkson would say like the original NSX or S2000. I'll absolutely agree that the visibility and driving position is fantastic, but beyond that I have very little interest at it's price point. The Z06 E-Ray (obviously newer) is more entertaining on a drivability standpoint, but also better tuned to give you the fun with approachability. Plus, it helps that cockpit is more bespoke than the NSX.
@oneonlyxram
@oneonlyxram 8 ай бұрын
@RobertLe_Sama oh the interior even on the type s is far below where it should be. But having driven them, they are incredible to drive and are the daily "supercar". It was May that says "fizz: 😜

Amazing to see how the savage geese humanizes (a goose humanizing... woow) the people behind these (and many other) cars - if previously Ford or GM was just a giant corporation with no face except for the sign on the office block - now we get the opportunity to see people, their motives and explanations behind the cars that we love... or hate (or neither in case of the new Toyota BEV piece of.. something or other). Thanks to savage geese for the videos - keep up the work - from Latvia.

For what it's worth, like many I got 4 simultaneous notifications and this was my first stop. I knew the nerd out would be strong and I was right. This is the C8 I've been most excited for. It's the 911 Turbo equivalent to me. Shame the car really flatlines over 65 mph.

These two geniuses, never cease to amaze audiences. Superb video editing, through visuals that provide informative data in a conceptual manner to deliver an amazing visual and surround like experience. My ine question is do you guys think GM, took a look at what the NSX is like under the hood. Seems like they have been sitting on the works for a sports car that would have electrification as part of the dna of the engine. I now have to wonder can this E-ray be better than a NSX? Maybe we can stay tuned for a video that puts bith cars together in the track and delivers the answer we are all waiting to hear…🎉😂 Truly awesome video, i always look forward to the next video eagerly.

16:11 Yes! Thank you for going straight to the sources of truth that typically live behind the curtain. I can attest Marketing departments are full of BS. Often not even checking with the Engineers and instead posting incorrect specs to the public. It's very frustrating.

It's so cool to see and hear the GM nerds discuss the development of systems they've dedicated portions of their lives on. This should be all the marketing GM needs. If you've got truly passionate, motivated engineers working on the platform that have pride in what they deliver, then the product is going to be amazing.

I appreciate all of the engineering insight that this channel gets into. It does not bore me to death. Question though: how is the internal combustion engine started? Is it an old-fashioned "chug-chug-chug" starter, or is there a dedicated motor to spin it up to idle speed instantly?
@GoldenCroc
@GoldenCroc 6 ай бұрын
Hmmm whats the difference in practice? I dont see any. A starter is just a "dedicated" electric motor after all. I guess you might be asking if its more powerful, perhaps with other gearing than a normal starter? I would guess it isnt.

@@GoldenCroc 12V vs. HV (200+ volts). If you search "KERS Kels" you'll find a starterless, clutchless 350Z race car with an electric assist system which also starts the engine from a dig.
