True story about credit. A few years back I wanted to upgrade my dining room furniture. I just happened to walk by a " Rent-to-own " type place and I saw a nice $900 dining room set with a $2700 price tag on it. So I says to myself, Hey, why don't I just take a little time and save up the $900 and buy the $900 dining room set for $900 instead of $2700. That way I can save $1800. Lesson learned. Never buy rent to own furniture and never carry a balance on your credit cards. The extra charges they'll make you pay are nothing more than a tax on people who are bad with money. Otherwise, don't buy the item and make do with your old secondhand furniture for a while longer. Like the judge said .... patience!

Those rent-to-own places have always *thrived* in the poor neighborhoods and been very successful at making some serious profits on their merchandise. Really, it's not about selling the merchandise, they are selling financing at 100%+ annualized interest rates, while encouraging families to finance more furniture they may or may not need and keeping them in debt for life. In some ways, worse than pawn shops or payday lenders. People going to those places have some idea of what they're getting into and would be paying a loanshark otherwise.

Maybe it was an isolated incident where she popped him for being fresh 🤷♀️Not justifying it, but as a parent I've lost my cool once with my 16yr old....I felt awful and truly regretted it but teenagers can push buttons to the max sometimes. HOWEVER....if it was excessive, more than just "a slap"...left any marks, or it was an ongoing thing....then she wholly deserved to have her children removed. Now....as far as her pathetic excuses regarding the payments...she was trying to play the young, naive, bobblehead role as if she didn't know how to get the payments processed. Older and wiser? Like JM said, if the plaintiff was wiser she wouldn't have extended her line of credit to ANYONE. The defendant is entitled, ungrateful, and a total mess. If you've never lost your cool then that's great! However, don't demonize someone for a one time, human mistake is my point. Dealing with teenagers can be extremely challenging. I have 4 teenagers and lost my cool once in 19years. Also, that moment doesn't mean they're not good and respectful children. It means they're little people testing the water and seeing how far they can push limits. Everyone's situation is very different. Every child/teen is different. We only heard a small portion of this story. People judging based on this little information was the reason I was happy someone had the sense to comment on the possible struggles of raising teens. As long as there were no marks or injuries and it was indeed a one time, isolated incident, then that alone doesn't make her a terrible mom. Btw, kudos to sanely raising one out of teenagehood and cheers to raising another! Parenthood is a rollercoaster of emotions and learning experiences. Best of luck to you and your family!

Does she expect to get freebies for her son for the rest of his and her life? Are her friends and neighbors supposed to carry her and her son's weight forever so that she never, ever, ever has to take responsibility for her own actions or for her own frickin bills or rent or buying gifts for her own children? Is she kidding? Or is she playing dumb and innocent thinking she won't be held accountable for her own purchases, bills, or payments? 🤔🧐😖😡 WTF???? It's record keeping 101...basic math. If you ain't got the cash on hand to pay up front or to pay the credit card bill at the end of the month, THEN YOU DON'T MAKE THE PURCHASE. And you certainly don't lean on family or friends or neighbors to cough up the moolah for you. You just DO WITHOUT. It's really that simple. Because the alternative is creating a history of bad credit. And if you let that happen, then it's tough to get bank loans to make bigger purchases like for cars or houses or education. 🤷🏽♀️
