the download package and the tutorial is brilliant. good effort, and a very worthwhile and rewarding video series to follow. Im a student of architecture (no money to donate, but will hopefully do so on getting a job) and shall be applying your techniques to my final renderings. Thanks again.

I wonder how to achieve the hard edge effect on the current version of PS, as many functions have been moved or redesigned :-)

Thanks for the tutorial, it's great! I got no money for paying for the tools but the explanation still helps me to make my own actions

Hi ... printing has so many variables that I can't give you a straight answer. As far as the color space is concerned, CMYK has a smaller gamut than RGB, so you will either get a shifting of colors if you use a perceptual rendering, or a clipping of colors if you use a relative rendering. But by the far the biggest effect is the paper you use, the printer, the inks, the profiling of your monitor and printer etc. Having said that, you should get excellent results after a few test prints.

Thanks for this very good presentation. The smudge problem can be dealt with somewhat by clicking on the fingerpaint radio button.
@robertardill87588 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Brown Thanks Stephen. I'm not sure what smudge problem you are referring to? The fingerpaint radio button adds a bit of the foreground color before the smudge, so it can be useful (providing one picks the foreground color first) for certain effects.
@stephenbrown79248 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, Yes that was the point that I was trying to make. I had experimented with the fingerpaint smudge. And it seems hard to control. But I have Photoshop CS3 but it still works very well with a Watcom.
@SceneShifts8 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Brown Hi Stephen ... yes, any release of Photoshop will work with the Wacom tablet. In CS5 there are new types of brushes and CS6 introduced further brushes. But the "Watercolor Tools Pre-CS5" will work fine on earlier versions like CS3.

I never used a graphic tablet before, but always want to try one. After watching some of your tutorial videos, I decided to get one so that I could use those wonderful tools from your website. Do you have any recommendation on graphic tablet? Or maybe what features matter most when choosing one? Thanks.
@SceneShifts9 жыл бұрын
+Jean Hello Jean. You should get a Wacom Intuos tablet and pen. The best ones are the Medium size tablets, although you can paint with the Small tablets. The Intuos 4 or 5 are available used and are very good. Or if you have money to spare then the Intuos Pro is the latest version. The tablets come with a pen which is fine for painting. However if you can stretch to it, the Art Pen is very good as it gives rotation (as well as pressure and tilt like the standard pen). This can be very useful with some of the tools. I normally paint with the Art pen. Robert

Robert, can I ask what kind of tablet you're using or that you recommend?
@SceneShifts10 жыл бұрын
Hi Caprise, I use a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet. You could get a second-had Intuos 4 or Intuos 5(they are as good as the newer ones) or a new Intuos Pro (which is the replacement for the Intuos 5). The Wacom eStore usually has used tablets which have been checked out/ reconditioned. For painting you are really better off with a Medium tablet (the Small is really too small and the Large is really too large :)). If you can afford it, the Art Pen is very good because it has rotation, which means that any brush that is not round can be rotated, just like a normal paintbrush. Hope that helps! Robert

Robert Ardill First I'd just like to say thank you for the in depth and swift reply, and second I am so impressed with what you've done in creating the actions and brushes and tools in photoshop, not to mention these very well done videos. I plan to purchase your tools and practice with your videos very soon. Thanks for doing all that work, Robert, you've helped to make the world that much more colorful and rich of a place.

Caprise Adams You're very welcome Caprise and thank you for your kind comments! I will be releasing some new tools soon with some really good brushes, but if you get the current set of brushes you will be able to get the new ones without additional charge (there's no charge for an upgrade if you have bought the tools within a year). Also, have a look at the PaintingDigitally facebook page (facebook.com/PaintingDigitally) as I post tips and tricks and things on this page (and anyone is welcome to do the same!). Robert

You could actually make things much simpler by creating brushes based of the styles you have created and the amalgamation of the various effects. Or just use Corel's Painter and enjoy the luxurious freedom of its features, another one is ArtRage.
@SceneShifts6 жыл бұрын
I don't know what you mean by creating brushes based on the styles. Styles have to do with layer effects, like Bevel & Emboss, not with brushes. Yes, you could use Corel Painter, but it's a very complicated and difficult to master program and not very effective at all for watercolor painting, in my opinion. Artrage is good and much simpler, but also much more limited. Photoshop has the advantage of being very powerful and yet easy to use and it is rock-solid. Also, for anyone who already has Photoshop, why get another painting program when Photoshop does it so well? And of course it integrates perfectly with photography and graphics, it has very powerful filters, masking, layer effects etc ... so it's a great platform for any mixed media type work.

There is nothing in this that you can't do yourself using nothing but Photoshop. If you want to make your life easier and save yourself years of work then you can buy the tools that I supply or you can get tools from other sources. But I would hope that a lot of the information that I give for free in these videos will be helpful to you if you wish to paint digitally, whether you buy a toolset to get you going or do it yourself.
