I've had various Peugeot cars from the 106,205,206,now 208 (2014) and they improve each time I change. I can honestly say my 2014 1.6 D has been the best small car I've owned. It is very economical, no road tax and comfortable on a run. Now at 110K miles. The main problem is maintenance which rarely gets done properly - even through dealers. Make sure you change the timing belt about 80K, change the oil& filer more often not forgetting the engine air filter. The weak point is at the rear of the car. Check under the boot floor for rust. They don't seem to use much underseal if at all. The rear brakes are very prone to corrosion and often do not work at all! Check the disks for wear and the calipers for seizing. If you cant do this stuff yourself try to buy a newer model with a warranty. Hope that helps.

I have a 208 GTI and it's had so many fricking problems (not starting, losing power, engine cutting out) costing a grand total of £3500 since March 2022 and repairs were carried out by Peugeot. I wouldn't buy another Peugeot ever again. The worst part is despite these repairs there is an impending fear the faults will come back. Since this year 2023, I've replaced 4 spark plugs with NGK branded ones as 2 of them died and 3 months ago 1 coil went and now another coil has gone I had all spark plugs and coils replaced by a garage during a service 1.5 years ago. Solenoid repair I had done in February and a new low pressure fuel pump as the engine cut out on me and Peugeot said it was only putting out 3.5 bar and not 5 bar. The fuel pump was the first of the 100s of repairs I had done 1.5 years ago by a local garage. I asked Peugeot for the old fuel pump when they replaced it, incase they are wrong, I don't want to throw out a good fuel pump. Peugeot somehow lost it. The problem is the 208 GTI came out in 2013 and I have a 63 plate so its an early model of the car which will be plagued with issues. Compared to 2015 models.

Right with you there. This is the worst car I've ever owned. Every time I drive this piece of sh!t the engine warning light comes on and not even the Peugeot mechanics can fix it. So now, I can't even sell the b@stard. This started happening back in 2020 when the high-pressure fuel pump crapped itself, along with some other issues. It took just on 3 months for the mechanic to fix it. So I get it back with that problem fixed only to have this new problem. But even before then, just issue after issue. Purchased in 2013 and there's not been one year that I've had no issues, so just gone past 10 years and it's a piece of junk on wheels. I've had cars that were twice this age and were still running perfectly.

@thepsychologist8159 2 күн бұрын
@@xingxiang1253 Same with me. I can't sell it. Who would buy it with the engine warning light coming on all the time? It's just ridiculous that this problem would even be happening. I've been to the Peugeot mechanic many times and not even their head mechanic can fix the problem. This started happening not long after another major issue several years ago (high pressure fuel pump) when the car was at the mechanic for several months. Even at that time the car was only 7 years old (minor things were even going wrong with it before then). I've got insurance on it which has a very good agreed value, but do you think any bastard will hit me? I've been so close to getting into an accident but every time my instincts kick in and I avoid it. Can you believe that when the car was at the mechanic for all those months there was a major hail storm in my area. Thousands upon thousand of cars were written off. But not my car, no, that stupid thing was parked in the mechanics workshop!!

I've been driving Peugeot 208 1.4 Active (2012) about almost 7 years, and I must say this has been a good car. Of course there's been some fixes during the years, and one of the most expensive was AC compressor. During the winter times (in Finland) the biggest issue has been that brakes freeze when the it's blowing snow type of winter weather (the snow gets to warm braking system and freezes). And because of that you need to learn how to park without braking too much 😀 Also maybe not the best car for long drives, but good when using city drives (small turning radius). And the front seats more comfortable than back seats. I think this car is slightly better for smaller people.

I had one a few years ago. One problem was, in the winter when I had the heater on full blast, the multimedia screen would overheat and switch off, despite the unit containing a small fan (which was loud). Also the rear washer connection (for fluid) was made of plastic and gets brittle and causes leak. Fixed under warranty.

I had a 307 diesel wagon and it was great to drive, but...sometimes when I turn the wheel the wipers would turn on. Sometimes when I turn on the indicator the wipers would turn on. Sometimes the rear wipers would turn on by itself for no reason at all. Had a family friend who had a 307 and used to tell stories of how his car was haunted and had s mind if its own, that wipers and windows (etc) would just operate randomly lol Seems like weird electrical gremlins are standard thing for Peugeots. Funny thing is that Alfa's have such a bad rep for reliability, yet none of the Alfa's I've owned have had electrical issues anywhere near that crazy. I have to say though, despite the gremlins I did like that 307. It had a nice gearshift, the 2L diesel was extremely strong and very economical, and it accordant handled pretty well for a fwd wagon.

Two areas of concern I have noted is the front suspension and brakes are a problem area due to poor design, and my car has very poor paint which flakes off in places (base coat and top coat are super thin - one of many Peugeot cost cutting exercises which are apparent with this cars design.

@@andyrotaru7031 I got one with 100k kms on the clock 4 months ago and had some issues. Well it didn't break down on the road at least but had quite a big maintenance bill, making it not the cheapest option considering the price I paid for the car itself. 1. Wet timing belt mentioned on other comments, had to get that replaced. Peugeot suggests 180k kms lifetime for these but it's just ridiculous, mine already had cracks on it and was like a ticking bomb (pun intended as it makes the engine tick like a diesel) 2. Handbrake cable completely corroded and had to be replaced. I noticed the handbrake is gone on a hill that I needed to use handbrake, fortunately I was quick to brake on time before I hit someone. 3. Brakes... well the previous owner hasn't really changed the calipers so it's just regular maintenance but I am afraid I may have the issue mentioned on this video, I just hear a weird ticking when I turn the steering while braking, this happens only after driving for a while though. 4. Catalytic converters on 208s are total crap. They're prone to failure. After driving mine for 200 kms, check engine light popped up which meant catalytic converter failure. It had to be replaced and it's not the cheapest repair really. Well it's a 10 year old car on 100k kms so obviously there will be some maintenance required but some parts on this car are more likely to fail than its competitors. Fortunately my car doesn't have the touch screen and as it's the base trim level, less electronics to fail (The biggest issue with French cars) at least. Anyways it's an OK daily driver, relatively quick and comfy, also fine for 500-1k km trips occasionally. I've got the 1.2 82hp version, which doesn't sound that much but considering how lightweight this car is, it's more than enough.

@@416KPDit's a nice car but the main problem that scares me in this car is the timing belt and engine oil burning. There is one selling with 135k Km on the mileage. It's also a 2013. I want to use it for city driving nothing long distance.
@416KPD
@416KPD Ай бұрын
@ma2i485 I actually sold the car couple of months ago as I moved abroad but yes, it did have an oil burning problem, like a lot. I did my oil change in May, then had a long road trip around 1500 kms. After coming back home and commuting to work couple of times, I've got the oil light on. The mechanic didn't find any leaks whatsoever, it is just burning oil. I was just driving around with a 5L 0w30 oil in my trunk, regularly checking the dipstick and topping up whenever needed. Obviously not a good solution and harmful for the engine at the end but really didn't have another choice. I'll definitely avoid the puretech engine in future.

I'm currently in your situation, I was looking to get a 208 GTi, over a Fiesta ST (MK7), but, I've heard too much sketchy sh*t about this car's reliability. Also, I use to own a BMW 320i ED (Efficient Dynamics) which has a "N13" engine. It turns out that the engine in the 208 GTi is a variant of that N13 engine. This N13 engine is also known as the "Prince" Engine. The code for the 208 GTi version of the Prince engine is called, EP6CDTX. The BMW 320I ED I had, with the shared Prince engine (N13) was just problematic. The O2 sensor (post catalytic converter) failed twice, the car was eating up oil. The valve solenoid failed twice, and the inlet hose that goes to the turbo, became brittle and straight up broke off. Bear in mind, that the car was service on schedule, and had only done 65,000 miles. I owned the car from 18,000 miles on the clock. I would never buy another car with one of these Prince engines, ever. Perhaps I was unlucky. But, I would not take the risk again. Especially as just prior to watching this video, I came across a 208 GTi owner on KZbin, who made a 1 year anniversary review video on his car, and mentioned that the O2 sensor failed (obviously within the first year of ownership). That has fully put me off. I will probably end up buying an Fiesta ST, or, a Renault Clio Lux/RS ...or perhaps a 180BHP Abarth 595/695. I'm sure the 208 GTi is a fun little car, but, I'm not interested due to the aforementioned reason.

These are pretty reliable cars as long as you avoid the must run away options for it. All diesels are pretty reliable (mines an e-hdi 92 with 170k kms and no problems). Normal gasoline engines may have problems with the catalytic converter (expensive), the 1.6THP should be avoided at all costs and the worse one is one of the most common: the 1.2 puretech, either with or without turbo. They use a moist belt that completely destroys the engine in less than 100k kilometers! That one’s trash!
