I have a 2012 1500 LT 4x4. I hate the variable cylinder crap. I don’t drive in the city much but every time I let off the gas even on the highway it goes through the variable cylinder crap. We towed a trailer that weighed about 6000 lbs from NH to AK when it was a year old. It only has 46,000 miles and we drive it less than 3,000 miles a year now. I.d have to live to be over 100 to get to 150,000 miles so I guess I’ll keep it.

No where is like it used to be. I remember 40 years ago having a few vehicles and I just kept the keys in them in the yard and never locked the house. We never locked our vehicles when we were in stores either. I also remember back then a gas station got held up and the owner chased them and shot and killed one of the robbers. The attitude was he got what he deserved and that was the end of it.

I'll just keep my Nissan Frontier 4.0 until it totally dies... and thanks to you, I now know that the water pump is IN-side that 4.0 engine, something I did not know before finding Scotty. I'm going to see if there is a place I can make a donation to you for all the info you've given. And here's a tip in case you didn't know... to clear hazed plastic vehicle headlamp covers, try Mother's Mag Polish. Yep, the stuff used on aluminum. I had some minor hazing on my Frontier plastic headlamps, and just a few minutes hand-rubbing with that stuff and they now look almost factory-new... it's amazing! No water, just a mircoiber towel and a few minutes rubbing. Share with your friends. :-)

@davea4037
@davea4037 3 жыл бұрын
@@nwabuezeozuzu6370 It does additional damage to engine. Every time the engine shuts off and turns on causes additional engine wear.......all just for saving minimal amounts of fuel. If thats not enough the constant shut off and on of the engine is terribly annoying.........but thats my pers opinion. Scotty did a video on why auto start/stop is bad for your engine as well. May not notice anything the first few years of ownership, but if you want long term ownership, you should prob have that feature disabled. Companies like autostop eliminator make a decent product so that you dont have to push the button every time you start the engine.

Have the cylinder deactivation on my 2012 Honda Accord V6. There is a guy up in Canada who sells a S-VCM that essentailly eliminates the 6 to 3 cylinder deactivation system. I purchased the car at 57k and the spark plugs were oil fouled from this system. I immediately put the "muzzler" on the VCM system (what honda calls cylinder deactivation) and it has been running great since. Full power in that great honda 3.5L V6. Tons of power. No more bucking of the engine in and out of VCM mode and also no more breaking the costly motor mounts.

Hello Scotty! I bought a Chev Avalanche new in 2011. At first I was amused by the AFM system but just after a few days it really became annoying. The jitter from 4 to 8 cylinders quickly became a thorn in my side. I then realized that driving the truck in Manual Mode and keeping the transmission in 5th gear (not selecting 6th), AFM would not engage. Therefore I have been using the truck like that ever since. The difference in RPM at highway speeds is about 300-500 RPM's higher from using 5th instead of 6th. So far so good as I really believe the extra RPM's shouldn't do any real harm. Anyhow, love your channel and keep up the great work. Blessings and Cheers!

With my 03 Yukon Denali with the 4l65e, i have had a head held tuner on it since the day the warranty ran out. The higher shift pressure is actually better for the transmission. 150k miles and still running like new

I have a 2014 GMC 5.3 liter Sierra with 186,000 miles. No problems, other than recently replacing the water pump, which was inexpensive and easy to do. I consistently get 22, 23 MPG at 70 MPH, with cylinder deactivation functioning frequently as I go up/down hills. I fully change ATF once a year. (6 speed tranny) Change oil/filter every 5,000 miles or so using hi grade synthetic oil. Replaced my first set of stock Goodyear tires at 105,000 miles. 2nd set of Michelens looks like they will go 100,000 + as well. Couldn't be more pleased.

My 5.3 with cylinder deactivation has 240,000 miles. I have done very little to this truck, other than basic maintenance, new front wheel bearings and front driveshaft seals. And I have averaged around 20 mpg for years. On road trips with a friend that drives a Tundra, he averaged 13 mpg, while I was getting 21. @1VaDude
@1VaDude 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffduncan9140 -- Yes. All 7th Generation Corvettes have it (2014 to 2019). With a manual transmission, it only goes into four-cylinder mode when you have the car set to "ECO" mode. In automatic Corvettes, the engine will drop down into "V4" mode whenever it wants to do so. Plugging in the Range AFM device prevents this from happening. Going into V4 mode only saves about 1 mile per gallon, so it is not worth it to potentially damage your engine to save a few pints of fuel on a long trip.

I have one. A 2017 with 3800 miles on it. I put the Range deal on. Cost $200. Runs in V8 at all times and doesn’t shift as much. Works great and all you have to do is pull it out of ODB port and it is stock again with no record on computer that you used the deactivation device. This makes transmission shift better because when it goes into v4 mode the transmission is shifting also and hunting for gears. Mine runs great and smoothly. Also I like the way it runs when in trailer mode. It holds lower gears longer and doesn’t shift as much.

I've read that GMs 4.8L V8, which they discontinued years ago, is very similar to the 5.3L. The only difference, besides displacement, is that the 4.8L did not have cylinder deactivation. Hence, the 4.8L had a better quality rating at the time.

The 2004-07 Honda Accord hybrid has the same concept, the v6 has a 'hybrid mode' where half the cylinders deactivate, very useful on the highway where you're at a consistent speed most the time but when you're at a stop light or city driving, hybrid mode turns on and for whatever reason you decide to floor it, pray your spark plugs don't fall threw. Would've been my favorite hybrid only if there wasn't huge cables all over the engine bay, making it almost impossible to change spark plugs on the inside cylinders, and if there was also a button to turn hybrid mode on and off. Wouldve been the best but no.

The cylinder deactivation only occurs when off throttle Also change your oil regularly to help with the gm VLOM the lifters collapse shutting the valves its very important you keep up on oil changes with this system I work at a Chevy dealership and people go to these 19.99 oil change places and they put conventional oil inside and wait until the oil life monitor hits 0% then wait until the next payday to change there oil Just modern engines in general change your oil
