Thanks Scotty! This is my experience also. Silicon works better and lasts far, far longer. The PIAA brand you display in this video is what I use. This is a Japanese brand, and they are less costly than Bosch silicon blades. For many years I used Bosch blades. They used to sell blades which were designed to take refills; but have now discontinued the refillable blades. This is wasteful and costly... so I wound up being a customer of PIAA. And, guess what? That's right, PIAA wiper blades are refillable, just like the old style ANCO and Bosch blades were, but they are made of silicon! PIAA makes an astonishingly good product.
@norman71796 жыл бұрын
Blade refills were economical but greed took over. $$$$$$$$$$ Notice how they all went to the whole blade replacement at the same time? C O L L U S I O N between the companies.
@ivermec-tin6666 жыл бұрын
@@norman7179 Yes, I noticed. But they didn't all make this change simultaneously. Bosch held out long after the others, until they began to make the Icon blade line, which is very sleek and expensive. No need to continue making the OG style when you can foist over priced metrosexual blades on a fickle customer base I abhore the sheer material waste of a wiping blade "component". IMO they are an ecological insult.

This is why manufactures team up with sales companies by knowingly producing sub par products with minimal longevity and quality so that the sales cycle will experience exponentially greater revolutions. Why sell nice things if you know you'll have lesser overall sales? Greed is the cause for the excessive waste of natural resources and extreme pollution.

I had that same white Ford Escort 1:08. It had a small rainforest growing on the front passenger side floor from a roof leak. Wipers worked great.
@JoeBlowski3 жыл бұрын
Very rare for roofs to leak, but it's very common for passenger floor floods due to failure of the gasket between the hole in the metal firewall and the plastic AC/heat housing outlet where AC condensation exits through a rubber flapper to drip onto the ground which is easy to fix by applying silicone caulk between the metal firewall and the plastic after removing the right front wheel and peeling back the plastic inner fender. I recommend putting some around the studs that penetrate the firewall in that area and finish by sealing around the fresh air intake screen in the cowl area which also fails letting windshield runoff to run freely into the AC/heat housing where, just like AC condensation, it exits through the pest control flapper drain which can be a major contributor to such floods, because it happens even when the AC is not being used. Maybe Scotty will take the hint and show how to do it if he hasn't already.

Had a '06 ML350 and that thing would break down so often (first 2 years - 4 fan belts, alternator and bracket, water pump, power steering pump, a/c compressor, brake pads and rotors on all 4's). After 6 yrs the intake manifold (aluminum) was deemed by MB to have deteriorated to a point where oil was leaking from its rear area. Luckily I've gotten the extended warranty but dumped that "money pit" once it expired. Got a '13 Lexus RX450h now and it has never gone in for any repair work. So far, only tires and oil changes. Bottom line.....stay away from MB that were built in the USA.

To Dark Days: Unfortunately I just this morning ordered Zimmermann rotors which are highly recommended by various KZbinrs but I will definitely look into those rotors down the road. I think I did actually buy Centric rotors with depressions in them and a gray coating for my e350 van a few years ago. I will have to check on that.

I had a choice between spending $20 (Rubber) or $40 (Silicone) on wiper blades. Took a chance, and spent $40 on the Silicone. 6 years later, they're 'okay' (they're clearly used, and the years show on them); but they still work great. When you mash it together with Rain-X and any ceramics that repels water, it really makes a difference at how often you're changing your wiper blades and your visibility when those products bead up the water and the blades simply push the water to the side. I have a set of spare Silicone blades, but I'm too lazy to replace them; even though I don't have a problem spending 5 hours applying ceramics (once every couple of years) and 15 minutes once every week cleaning my truck. A couple of times, I had thought about replacing my wiper blades; but they're so durable, that you can easily clean them with any Rain-X product and they'll be good as new for a while. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised those blades outlast the life of my truck.
