No, he didn’t. He gave a passing stamp to this particular car. Big difference between him reviewing an individual car and advising what models are best to buy in general. Not all Hyundai’s break - when he advises about brands and models he’s talking about percentages and general chances. There are plenty of individual reviews with Scotty looking at a customers Jeep, Chevy, Audi, and him saying: this one’s doing ok! That doesn’t mean he’s endorsing the models as a whole or telling you to buy one. As with all things, if you buy something like a Hyundai, your chances of problems are higher. Good thinking. My wife's 2017 Elantra started having misfires and often it was at low rpm. My online research shows a lot of Hyundai engine coil problems over the past several years. I replaced all 4 coils with after-market parts and thus far, no more misfires. The dealer wanted to charge me a small fortune to replace them with new Hyundai coils. Uhhhh....those are the parts that are failing. No thank you. Lots of other customers have solved this problem with higher quality after-market parts. Hyundai should have recalled all these coils. Scotty, I've got a 2019 Kia Optima with a 2.4 liter engine and it has nearly 37,000 miles on it. It has been losing gas mileage and the other day it would not start. The starter works, the battery works, I even drove it (after I let it sit overnight, it did start) to the dealership and they don't know what's wrong with it. It's also been a little sluggish lately. Any ideas?

@@luism8612 but like he said Luis, made in Korea models don’t have the issues of American models and I can back that up as I had two from Korea that have been reliable as much as my Toyota. And that actually applies to Toyota too I seen a lady say her newer Camry had cracked frame and it was like 2018 or newer which is ridiculous the Toyotas made outside of japan like the Hyundais made outside of Korea aren’t as good

Hey Scotty, love your videos. As for the door sticker on Hyundai showing it's manufacturing country they aren't always accurate. A 2015 Elantra I worked with showed Alabama on the door sticker which I used to buy the belt, oil pan drain plug, and brakes. Not a single part fit right and the Korean parts did. It was with the original owner. So even though the door said US built it still somehow was south Korea.

Recently got the new Elantra N. The 8 speed wet dual clutch transmission is incredible, as is the electronic LSD. While breaking it in, ran mostly in ECO mode and regularly hit 38 MPG. Put it in N mode, and it can hit 0-60 in 5 seconds. Amazing car...with a recall for the seat belt pretensioner.

quick question. I have a 2015 accent having AC problem. The AC wont go super cold, just slightly cooler than outside temperature. The low side reads 45-50 psi and the high side reads 180-200 when I turn the AC all the way up and engine idling. The outlet gave strong airflow. The low side does reduce to 35 or so when I step on the pedal and it feels colder on highway but just not really cooling. The mechanic shop has replaced almost everything in the AC system, compressor x 3, condenser, expansion valve. The system was flushed multiple times. The only thing left could be AC pipeline, pressure sensor and evaporator. My car shop gave up on it since they cant figure out what goes wrong with it. Any idea?

That key ignition on that 2016 Hyundai means that it does not have an immobilizer, meaning it’s very vulnerable to theft (especially with the Kia boys trend) and resale value is gonna drop and insurance premiums are gonna rise on that car

I need to get a scan tool for checking codes and resetting them. I am not a mechanic though, so I am not necessarily in need or an elaborate code reader. Are all of them on your DIY list recommendations by you or can you suggest one in particular? I own a 2002 Silverado that I put headers on and a custom exhaust, it has a code showing probably due to the o2 sensors I disconnected. I own a 2006 Mazda3 that has a code showing, Advance Auto said it was the coolant sensor, due to too many short trips? And I own a 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan that has a code showing, probably for the defective brake booster or abs sensor or something.

The latest I have heard are reports of oil higher use and engine fires in certain Korean brands. Years ago my mechanic told me they had terrible electrics. My next vehicle will be Japanese, previously always a Ford or GM. I am impressed by Genesis but again they are Korean and re-sale will be weak I feel.

I owned 7 Hyundai's. The last one I bought the dealer ripped me off $400. Best thing that ever happened to me. Ever since, I've been driving Toyota and the total cost of ownership is MUCH less and my overall happiness and my car resale value is MUCH higher. The cost difference is so minimal, I'm often amazed that anybody buys Hyundais.

Because they are cheap used cars (just like Nissan) People think they are saving money but end up paying more in the long run. For example my friend bought a used Kia Optima and just 2 weeks ago the engine locked up and is destroyed. Kia/Hyundai is not wanting to replace the engine unless he provides proof of oil changes even though it is a known issue with Theta II engines. Toyota's are more expensive used cars but will run forever if maintained. My 'beater' truck is a 2001 Tacoma with over 200k miles and it runs like a dream.
