A home needs cleaning because people , and animals, live there. Isn’t that a blessing? Stains, dirt, dust, tears in fabric, dirty floors and windows, etc. These are signs that life is thriving within the walls. That’s a gift from God. Our gift to Him is gratitude. Best wishes.

There's a lot of positive things to learn from you Nikki. You seem like a perfectionist when it comes to cleaning & organising but letting your family keep their habits that could annoy you, requires a kind heart. Picking your battles and keeping the sentiments of others in mind deserves appreciation. Thank you

Hi Nikki, definitely have one in the front window and then one in the kitchen, none in the family room. Limiting decor in there. This was an enjoyable discussion. I’m listening as I picture my products. Love the subtle sweet heart. That will make a huge difference around the neckline. Good call. Love the Christmas apron. So true about the house and the shies. Your family has to feel comfortable at home. You set the boundaries.

I love your comment about the shoes in the house. I decided years ago that we have our home because of my husband, and he can wear his outside shoes in the house if he wants to. And the 5 kids don't get to choose. Their shoes come off at the door. When the older ones complain, I explain that when they chop wood, change their own tires and change their own oil, mow the acrage and till the garden, rake the leaves and snowplow the driveway, they can most certainly keep their outside shoes on. I think they'd rather take them off instead.

It’s been a losing battle with my husband taking off his shoes before coming in the house. For awhile due to COVID he took off his shoes., but now he has resumed the bad habit again. It does upset, but my husband has feet issues and putting on and off his shoes are a challenge for him and so I let it be. In a perfect world everyone takes off their shoes when they come in my house. But, I want my family and guests to be comfortable so I don’t make it a rule. My family think I am a neat freak, but if a clean, neat and organized home makes you a neat freak, then so be it that is me 😏. Over the years I have tailored my holiday/decor, I have found that less is best. But, you have inspired me to get a table top tree for my bedroom to place in front of the window. I love your style and home. Thank you for sharing 🍂🏡

A lovely picture indeed. I preach to myself in my videos you see, sometimes I need the reminder of what that beautiful illustration looks like. I saw that as I was setting up my camera to capture me putting away my clothes. He was laying back and before the words, "can you please move your feet? They're in my shot!" came out of my mouth, I thought, no, this is my life and it's a beautiful one, boots and all. It shifted my own thinking.

I’m am so big about shoes in the house. I feel bad because over the years I’ve noticed people who are not comfortable coming over because they feel like I’m so strict. Even my children 5 and 6 know they can’t wear shoes in our house. Its weird to them when we go to other people homes and they wear shoes. We always take our shoes off in our home. I will respect your home and your hard work you put into cleaning your home.

That's good that your family sticks to your rule. Something my husband talks about is how uncomfortable it can be for guests to take their shoes off and doesn't want them to feel that way. One time when we had some friends over, their son took off his shoes to get more comfortable and his feet smelled up the whole house. I think I'd rather sweep the dirt after company leaves because you never know.

Hi Nikki I didn't even notice. You know that is very cultural. It's a Caribbean and Latin thing. That is because we live bith inside and outside. Our weather allows that. I have the same situation. My son who has lived in Holland will always leave his shoes and slippers at the garage. Like you said though it's annoying, we realise that these things are microscopic in light of how blessed we are to have with us the beauty if being surrounded by our loved ones.

I heard a story once about a young lady complaining about her husbands habits, dirty laundry on the floor, shirts inside out, receipts in pockets for the washer (yay) and than he passed away and she wished she could pick up his laundry just one more time, I have to go the extra mile for my husband for his laundry oh how many shirts and loads are ink stained, but I love that I have him here with me and I would miss his messy self very very much! Same with the toddlers and the never ending mess that they leave behind. We have bigger problems in this life to fight for and try to fix.

I had a no shoes in my home but my husband wore his Army boots in our house. Your videos are here to inspire us and I do get inspired. It’s hard sometimes because watching these videos makes people feel like we are part of you and when you are part of s family you then feel the urge to comment on something. Hi Nikki, Enjoying your video while I wait for help with my daughter’s BMW. 😊 Your calming voice at the beginning of this chat is perfect. My husband freely walks through our house looking for a certain tool while working on vehicles; he paid for the carpet & vehicles so this 100% Dutch girl is working on letting it go. Team slim tree here, too; we don’t have floor space for a tree so it will go on an end table or open bulkhead dividing our kitchen and living room. All the best, Julie 😊

Have you considered getting an irobot to clean your floors? We bought one last Black Friday on Amazon and it has helped us tremendously. We are a busy family of 5 & the robot runs at least once a day, sometimes twice! It has made my life SO much easier and I’m thrilled that my floors stay mostly clean. I still have to clean them, but it cuts down substantially on the work I need to do. We also do not allow any shoes on in our home. That helps a ton too!

We don't have a christmastree in the window, yet, but I'm working on it. The tree in your masterbedrom looks awesome! That one would really fit well next to the fireplace, too. You know, my husband walks through the whole house in his boots from time to time and I don't say anything to him. I know that he isn't disrespectful. He has built up everything in our house and he works all day long to earn money for his family. And sometimes he just comes home very tired. And I have these days, too. Don't we all have these days? It was my favourite part in that last video when you were putting things away in the cupboard, and tucked in the corner of the frame was your husband's big work boots on the end of the bed. That part honestly touched my heart. There is a fine line to walk in putting your heart and soul into your homemaking, and your home becoming an idol. When you put a completely "picture perfect" home ahead of your husband and children or anyone who lives under your roof, you are missing the point. The home is for the family. The home serves the family...not the other way around. It seemed to me that the boots were probably accidental and we, the viewers, could have easily missed them, so it's not like you were trying to make that point, but it's just genuinely what you strive to do in your home. That's why I loved that part so much. And I also strive for the same thing. I put my all into my home, but I never want people to feel like they can't relax....or literally can't put their feet up!
@TheLadyoftheHouse
@TheLadyoftheHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Such a beautiful comment Maren and that was perfectly said. For too many, the home is the idol. When I initially set up the camera, it wasn't because his feet were up but I decided not to crop them out because that's our life and sometimes I'm putting laundry away after he is home and relaxing and that is beautiful.

I too, am sorting my Christmas decor as I put it up . I didn’t want to feel so cluttered this year. I love how your trees look ! Also I love the new apron ! Also I just wanted to say , I have a small dog ..sometimes she has accidents. We wear shoes because of this. I think if you are ok with shoes in your house, that is all that matters. After all it’s just that your house , so we don’t get a say in what is ok there. We are just quests, welcome to a glimpse into your life. And sometimes as homemakers I think we tend to forget that is home, is also home to others who have different ideas of comfort to them . It’s a balance in give and take, if it wasn’t our lives would be so dull. It’s the times In the we’re learning to work out that balance that makes life , such a gift. For those ladies that keep missing out on aprons, would it be advisable for them to message you informing you as such (nicely, of course) and what sort of aprons (adult or child)/how many they wanted, so they get priority next time around? The same patterns may not be available but at least it would be an apron. I think that its because the aprons always look so feminine that they sell out quickly. Its hard to find feminine looking aprons where i live. Blessings to you Nikki🥰😊

Nikki. You are so open and honest in your videos. I know that when we are open that some may be critical. You’re dealing well with it all. I am inspired by all that you do to make your home/life beautiful and organized. What time do you usually try to get to bed and then wake up in the morning?
@TheLadyoftheHouse
@TheLadyoftheHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saying that Karen. I'm thankful that recent comments haven't been very critical and I can understand what concerns people but it's always important to remember, those living within the home have already had their private conversations about all the topics anybody looking in want to nit pick which in turn can annoy after a while, especially if it's something that a person is struggling with already (like myself). It's like sitting with a friend and she's going on and on about all the things that drive her crazy about her husband and then before you know it you go home and harp on your own because the same thing bothers you or worse yet, start a gripe session about him to her. Believe me, I can be just as negative but at some point, we have to step back and remember how blessed we truly are. I get pretty tired around 8pm so I like to run my bath around then, some nights it can be 7:30 and then I'll roughly plan my next day, journal, read and go to sleep between 9-10pm.

I love "our" little talks Nikki 😉 My husband has always worked outside In construction type jobs and now he's a retired hobby rancher so yes, I've had to pick my battles. Living in the country he realizes how hard it is to keep the house clean so he does try to check his shoes or take them off before he comes in but it's a losing battle here. I've learned to embrace the dirt and dust, paw prints etc. 🤷 Yes I love a Christmas tree by a window. My tree will be in the dining room in front of a window. However we live on a hill above the road so no one will see it, but the reflection will be beautiful. Your streamlined home is so pretty and comfortable. I love both of your trees. I should declutter my christmas decorations but probably won't. Have a great weekend.

No need to throw the cords away! It's VERY simple to splice the wires. Not doubt your husband can. Lol. But it's very simple. I just made a new charging cord out of two different cords. I had every cord but the one I needed, naturally. So I cut and spliced two together and voila! Lol. Electrical work is way easier than it looks.

Oh no I’m so embarrassed!!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ that was MEEEEEE about your hubby’s shoes 🤣 That makes SO much sense!!! Yea it IS his home so yea if he wants to wear his shoes on the bed I guess that’s his prerogative. I didn’t mean it like to be rude. I just meant it like “you’re the cleanest lady I know, I’m just surprised you allowed that.” 😂 please don’t ever take comments like that so serious. I feel bad it bothered you enough to take that much time on it. I learned a lot from your answer tho! It makes sense to not say things you wouldn’t say in person at someone’s house as a guest. Sometimes I blurt out whatever I’m thinking as I watch. And at that time in my head I was like “wow I’m surprised she didn’t make Jorge take his shoes off. But you’re right it’s his house. I didn’t mean to offend you sorry 😘 Also I am working really hard (not that you can tell 😂) on not grumbling as you have mentioned it says I the Bible. You keep doing what you’re doing and I love it and I love you and I literally binge watch you for hours in a day. Especially at bedtime with your soothing voice. If you see a Negative comment, just know that a lot of people might be like me and just blurt what they’re thinking. I wasn’t be judgmental, so to speak 😞

Thank you for your comment and also for reflecting, not many are willing to do that. While a few people commented on his shoes being on the bed, my mom had actually made a comment that made me realize some people thought his shoes were on the actual bedding which they weren't so I clarified. To get deep into the conversation came from years of people commenting within my videos about why it's important to not wear shoes in the house. I don't feel anybody left a rude comment in that video (you included). I'm just bringing light to a feeling as a creator and hopefully it will cause those viewers to consider this that care and who don't want to leave a bad feeling to their name. There will always be those that say what they want without regard to the creator's feelings but that's not my true audience so I'm not speaking to them. When we consider ourselves as a guest, we may think about our visit a little differently, especially when heading to the comments. Something I learned early on in my marriage, I can't make my husband do anything. No matter how I feel, he has to want to. I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos!
