Taking breaks, thinking of how to do gardening tasks easier and safer before you do them, and warming up for repetitive motions is what I took away from Will' s presentation. Not mentioned is how gardening can be a good activity to aid in mental health. Thanks Will for another great ,longer video!

I hurt my back while gardening. The injury itself was mild / but it triggered some nerve issues that I didn’t know I had!!! It was terrible!!! Thanks for this video

Come spring, I used to get out full of enthusiasm and spend entire days outside, cleaning up from fall, working on my flower beds, etc., and getting older I started paying for it with stiffness, aching knees and hips and so on. A couple years ago, I set a rule for myself, that I’m not allowed to spend more than an hour a day out there. That really worked well for me. Over time the work got done, I enjoyed getting to spend time outdoors pretty much every day, and best of all, no stiffness, soreness or injury. As the summer progressed, I was able to extend my time working outside. Luckily for me, I don’t have any serious physical restrictions so it’s just a matter of being careful to ease into it each spring.

It sounds like you've figured out a great set up - it's definitely important not to push yourself too far and risk injury which would take away the opportunity to be outside throughout the rest of the warmer seasons! Wishing you all the best with the coming summer season :)

Brilliant, Will! Thank you very much. I am making a written list of all you said plus the exercises, so I can learn & remember them. So glad I found your instruction on the net. You are a great help for creaking, ageing & painful joints & muscles, enabling us to do something about it and for others to prevent it happening. PS. Love your 3 Tip Friday.

Will, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. You're an excellent speaker and totally held my attention! I really appreciate the advice about preparatory stretching to prevent injuries. I will also take your advice about getting help when I go to the tack and feed store today to get the straw bales I'll use for mulch--I'm really bad about asking for help. 😊 Thanks again, Will.

I just pulled a muscle in my upper back doing gardening last week. Digging out turks cap and pulling pulling those wicked roots out! Hurts really bad today. 😢It was funny, I could tell I had done something then, but not really painful, but I must have done something else that sent it over the edge a few days later so it went into near spasms. Doing McKensie method exercises and its slowly helping. Also hanging from a pullup bar.

That is the exact same thing that happened to me. I hurt my back gardening and about a day later the spasms came in like nothing l have experienced before. It was absolutely terrifying not knowing what was going on. Where do you find this method, is it here on KZbin?

I'm sorry to hear about your injury - sometimes you don't always feel the true extent of it and it only takes something small to tip it over the edge - I'm pleased you've found some exercises to aid your recovery!

Gardening is fantastic exercise. I get the odd ache but rest and it goes away. Builds back stronger. Wear good boots that are easy to move in, wear flexible gloves, buy quality tools which have shock stoppers. Wheelbarrows are a back strain issue if you overload them. If you get a back twinge get down into a squat to unclench the muscles. Lift from a squat.

Hello Will!! Greetings from Canada to you and your loved ones. Thank you very much for the interesting video for seniors and for me, which I watched from beginning to end. My name is Bogdan, my friends call me Bobbi and at work Robert. I couldn't understand for a long time, but now I understand. Maybe because, despite being a Canadian citizen, my language knowledge and vocabulary are still not as I would like them to be. I hope that I won't be able to improve it too much as I am already 77 years old. But I don't give up and even though it's hard for me, I keep trying. Thank you once again for an interesting lecture, even if I don't have my own garden or plot. However, I have a large 3x3 meter balcony where I have a lot of flowers and herbs in the summer. Greetings from the Toronto and Mississaga area, Ontario. Warm and cordial greetings. Bogdan aka Bobbi.

Great talk, Will! I stopped helping my husband lug tarps of autumn leaves of our lawn to wooded part, because I hurt my hand. A year or two before I'd shoveled snow like a guy and even carried 2 40 pound bags of water treatment salt, downstairs. I felt like it seemed like I was faking it but at about 62 years of age my first perceived muscles loss hit me. Oh by the way I love Google! What are pruning shears called in England? (sɛkətɜrz ) plural noun. Secateurs are the same as pruning shears. [British] Closed captions didn't spell it right. Thanks again for all the tool sharpening your advice gives us to age well, and still keep active!❤

The way to be able to get up from the floor is to practice it and keep doing it daily. In the West we seldom get on the floor. In most countries and all through history humans have rested on the floor and had to raise up multiple times a day and maintain the ability to do it until they drop.

Just wondering Will if you would be able to do a video on back spasms. I am terrified and l mean terrified of them coming back, so much that l have not moved my back to its capabilities for over a year now. I am now suffering from many other issues such as, knee issues, neck issues and also other parts of my back giving me problems. I have tried to do research but there is nothing out there, not sure if back specialists just don’t know what to say. Back spasms are debilitating for those of us that don’t know what to do.
