Hello Christa, My name is Izabel, I am Brazilian lived in France for one year and moved to Belgium almost 10 years ago. I learned crochet when I was 7 or 8 years old, with a granny neighbour. I learned only the basics and tried a few things over the years, but never really achieved much in terms of good results or products. A couple of months ago I re-discovered crochet as some sort of coping strategy/therapy to find some work-life balance and I am totally addicted to it :) I was looking for information around crochet hooks, there are so many different prices and materials nowadays! That's how I came across your review and discovered the secret yarnery. It is a great initiative, plus very helpful and insightful. Thanks for sharing your experience and ideas. I actually love the crochet/safari week idea!

I recently moved to a house with quite a lot of yard. So I am also going to try my hand at gardening. I have 4 siblings and lots of nieces and nephews and great niece and nephews. I’m a good auntie. We go lots of places, play many games and do all kinds of art projects! So for my thoughts/projects on/in crochet- I’ve made some hats, dishcloths and am teaching a friend. I have mad purses, rugs, etc. in the past. I think I told you what I wanted to do, but here it is again- a scrap blanket like yours, temperature blanket, mandalas, granny squares, baskets, lacey summer sweater, amigurimi (sp?) and some pearl cotton motifs, flowers butterflies and doilies. Plus I have a crate of wips! Last ly I wasn’t to share that I learned to knit from a neighbor, mrs Greenberg, who was a holocaust survivor when I was 10. The desire to crochet came from my great aunt Mary who I adored. Her hair was pure white, she was always crocheting doilies and she hugged you and kissed and always had good homemade Italian cookies and she would say ‘Mange! Mange!” She only spoke Italian so I only understood the one word she said. I loved and admired her so, I tracked down some of her doilies and rolled them into clay and made bowls, calling them ‘Aunt Mary’s Pots’. I’ve been a potter for over 25 years. Well Christa that’s probably more than you wanted to know. I love your podcasts and would love to come to Kenya for a crochet retreat!! Hugs and kisses, bernadette

Hi Christa! This is bernadette! I am going to do my intro now. I live in Des Moines Iowa. I grew up in Cleveland Ohio. After college I moved many times- Dayton Ohio, Chicago (my happy place), San Antonio Texas, Houston Texas (great because I got to get to know my aunt Martha who I only met 3x before moving there) Albuquerque NM (best weather place and most beautiful!) and now Des Moines (ok for now; rather be in Texas or Chicago). I moved looking for the better job. I am a certified orientation and mobility specialist with a teaching license. I taught visually impaired /blind students to get from place to place in school, home neighborhood, residential, business areas and downtown area. Very fun and taught one on one! Unfortunately I retired early because with all the regulations and requirements that had nothing to do with teaching students was all too stressful and I felt I was not teaching what my students needed but so I would have documented progress reports and data. So I am free to pick up crochet and other endevors! I live with my 2 puppy dogs! Max, miniature schnauzer, and Cutie Pie, rat terrier. I rescued both. Max from a shelter when he was11/2-2 years old in November 2012. Cutie from where she lived in a rural area. She had been hit by a car. I saw poor Cutie stand up on her front paws walk to grass with her buttocks high in the air and her back legs dangling to try to relieve herself. After sometime of negotiationgot her in the car and whisked her off to the vet!! She was very sick and would have died in days if I hadn’t rescued her! After 2 month s of recuperation from surgery and mega doses of meds she took off like a rocket when I let her off lease! She’s my clown, devious one, smarty pants, and girly!

I love seeing your projects and all of the different places in Kenya. It's great being able to see the nice daily life of someone living in a different country instead of impersonal stories in textbooks or encyclopedias. You mentioned in the end clip that you were planning on going to the butcher afterwards, is that still a common business there? I wish we had them more here in the US. It was neat to learn that pedestrians don't have the right of way because it makes a LOT more sense to me. I grew up in the country and like most people who were I was taught to be cautious of cars on the road by never getting near them. After going to college in the city I'm still flabbergasted by the amount of people who do not care about cars and just jump right out in front of them. I think Kenya is doing something right by having that motor law.

I had a teacher whose son and wife moved to Kenya many years ago, they loved it there. I have since lost contact with them, so I am unsure if they still live there. That was over 30 years ago, maybe 40. It looks like a beautiful place to live or even visit. I live in the USA and get excited when I see a red fox in the wild, as I did this early morning. They are rare to see but I live in the country, not in a town so my chances are better. What are some of the unique kinds of animals that live there? Love your videos! Thank you.

Your story about the driving in Canada with that lady was actually hilarious. I love all of the things that you mentioned about Nairobi like no guns and no plastic bags, just casually waiting for Indiana to outlaw plastic bags. My degree is in conservation so all that plastic going into the ocean is like anxiety inducing yuck. I am interested in the crochet cruise that The Crochet Crowd does big because it’s like all based around crochet and yarn and community, not because it’s traveling and visiting new destinations but that’s just me

Mornin Christa! DID I miss a podcast? You received your shipment of 600?s of yarn? Oh I hope you videoed unveiling it he he he. The colors of yarn are phenomenal! Not into Orange so much but I'm loving in both! I think it's the contrasting colors great collection. Curious if you find out anything on the bird eggs, googled it? LOLOL remember when everything was looked up in encyclopedias as much as I miss using them( their buried in the garage but they certainly have more information than I can find online sometimes... Kathleen YOU'RE NOT digging out the encyclopedias HAHAHA I digress) hope you hatch! The issues with the Cardi? If we follow the revised video will we avoid those issues? Personally I'd want the fit of the original. SO SRY SIS! I can't imagine losing someone to retirement out anything else for that matter that you trust SO deeply and has become such an intricate party of the family. I pray you are blessed with someone knew that grows into the family in their own sweet trustworthy way ;-)

In the states it's bad we had a school shooting I wanna say a couple, few months back in Florida and since then it's like we had one everyday in some state or another for weeks it seemed that way anyways. If there wasn't a shooting and kids getting killed they were arresting kids for having a gun or making threats of shooting a school up and found the means on the child. It's bad I mean bad, some days your afraid to send your child to school and in alot of schools almost all of them there is NO security or metal detectors to make sure their no carrying weapons into the schools. And the drug pandemic in the United states, in every single state people over dosing on drugs EVERYDAY is so bad they ran out of room at the morgue for bodies. So I know you were saying at some point you thought about moving to chicago. No if it were me I'd move my entire family there with you just to get them out of this mess.

I have an off topic question about how your affiliate link works for amazon. I had found stuff I wanted and added it to my cart. Then jumped on here and used your link to bring up my amazon to finish my order. Will you get credit for the stuff already in my cart? Not sure how it works, and every bit of help I can do matters to me.

Lisa Heilman thanks Lisa! So sweet of you! Yes, I think that's all you have to do: click on one of my links and then do your shopping/check out! It dosen't have to be the things I link to. Just that you click on my link before checking out. Thank you so so much!!
