Sh*T Happens, but You're Going to be OK (Benzo Withdrawals)

I took benzodiazepine (1mg Klonopin) for 5 years before beginning my tapering process and entering into benzo withdrawals. Benzo withdrawals are hell and sh*t happens, but I'm going to be ok and you're going to be ok too. We can get through this. We can beat this. We will heal.
As part of my benzo withdrawal experience I've had minor seizures, headaches, emotional breakdowns (see other videos), anger and impulse control issues, GI issues, heart palpitations, and other symptoms. I'm creating these videos to share my experience with you and hopefully help you know you're not alone.

this is such a horrific thing to go through that I don't know if I can agree with you because of what the doctor will go through but at the same time I agree but then at the same time I can't see someone else going through this, it's hard to say... the less people that have to go through this the better. they should just take it off the market, all benzos!

I will say however that my Faith, has been 110% tested to the max via this "Marathon"! Keep on trucking my friend.. anyone who survives this is extremely tough without a doubt! When you have extremely tough soldiers coming back from IRAQ who completely breakdown when going through Benzo W/D...you know you have a problem.

Acceptance has helped me a lot I'm 30 days cold turkey from Klonopin .50 mg for 4 years . My faith also plays a hug part in my recovery .. I need so sleep. I do take vistaril when needed when anxiety gets out off control . I do care about people too. Something that I would tell everyone that every night I pray for people that are fighting the same fight.

I think everyone is different... My mom took clonazepam for years but quitting was like a freaking walk in the park for her? I don't think she's lying cuz I observe her daily. If I try to quit oxazepam (another benzo, not well known in the states) I get HORRIBLE withdrawals.. Six-seven hours without taking any and they start. It feels like I can't see anything, like I'm gonna pass out.

Ive been on 10mg diazepam for 10 years. the only reason I'm staying on them is because I know I would take my own life if I had to withdraw. not even an option for me. i realise this comes off very negative but I'm getting old now and have no family and friends to support me. i fought a long fight with anxiety and I'm worn out with it. i couldn't face the nightmare of withdrawal alone. just too much.

I'm sorry to hear that Jack. It is a long, long, long road and I can't imagine doing it without someone in your corner and a strong support system. I think about suicide everyday and it's unreal how painful it is to feel you can't control your thoughts and your emotions and your body and the pain inside the brain is unreal and Psychiatry is abusive and the fear is being put on more meds by force if others don't understand what's happening to you.. Doctors don't know how bad it hurts and friends can fade away and family can think you're crazy and force you to seek out more meds and it's just a nightmare everyday!!

George, please don't give up hope. I have spent a year withdrawing from Valium and I am down to the wire now. I am almost 70 years old and I have been a bit of a nut case my entire life. lol The point is, if an old lady like me can do it, anybody can. I wish you the very best George and please don't give up. You will be alright and I will suggest to people one thing that I do to help me through. I have been getting panic attacks and I find it difficult to breathe sometimes and it's so scary, but then I remember; it's the withdrawal that's doing this to me. I begin deep breathing every time I feel an attack coming on and it passes. I have lived with panic attacks since as far back as three years old. I was forced to stop taking benzos by my clinic and I am so happy that I am getting off. Life will get better. Just don't throw in the towel before the miracle of recovery happens. Many blessings to you.

@@rocioespinoza2098 Thanks Rocio and believe me, it took me to old age to figure it out, but a good attitude is essential when we are trying to get off of these medications and live healthfully again. That and compassion for oneself as you go through the journey. I was taking 20 to 30 mgs. daily for probably six or seven years so believe me, my body and mind depended on it! Plus, I have had high anxiety and panic attacks since I was a little bitty girl. My Nurse Practitioner who put me on Valium retired, and the new doctor last January told me that I had to stop using benzos and she immediately prescribed me enough for a month taking only 15mgs. daily. I felt HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! I kept calling the doctor and she never returned my calls until I finally felt better again. I switched back to a N.P. again and he has guided me through this taper for one year. I usually cut down 1/2 to 1 mg. per month and I would be very sick and feeling horrible for two weeks and then I got better and then I cut down again. Even my N.P. didn't want me to go so quickly, but I was prepared to go back up if I had seizures or anything dangerous. As I told a gentlemen on this page, I did eat THC edibles as much as I could for the first several days or more of each taper. They put me to sleep and some of them even had melatonin in them. Anyway, bottom line, I just relentlessly made my way to the end, which is now 1/2 mg. at bedtime and in a month, I will be off of it completely. I know my brain and body are probably gonna be messed up for some time; perhaps a year or so, but putting it simply, "You gotta do what ya gotta do. Thanks again Rocio. Don't misunderstand me though; I have gone through Hell this past year, but not every day, and that is what I focus on. I did it, I am nearing the finishing line and I feel great about that!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best wishes to you.

@@sherryhartin2055 That is so sweet and kind of you to ask Sherry and I am doing well, considering all that I have been through. I am now off of the benzos since April 5th and fortunately I found the most fabulous group to join where they teach people how to heal through diet, meditation and exercise. The young man who started this group can be seen on youtube. His name is Charlie Goldsmith and if you ever want to see what's up, watch the video The Healer right here on youtube. He also has a video up about his My Good Habits program. I feel honestly that I was somehow Divinely guided to that program and it has saved me from despair. My stomach is still messed up but so much better than it was. I keep doing all the right things to keep healing and I continue to do so. If I could convince anyone to do something good for themselves, I would suggest people eat from the earth, the nuts and berries, the beautiful vegetables and fruits and non-genetically modified foods. And meditation has become one of my most significant live savers. I am grateful that I have made it through all of the darkness and am residing in a much lighter place now. I hope you are well too!

GABA receptors have been reduced.GABA recepters partially shut down from benzos!GABA is th main traffic cop of central nervous system! When GABA is low theres not much control over glutamate recepters(opposite reaction from GABA).GABA controls parasympathetic nervous system(rest an repair)while glutamate recepters control fight or flight response.Frm wht I read the benzos took the place of GABA and as a result the body adjusted by eliminating some of the GABA recepters(compensating or it thinks for too much GABA).So once off benzos the glutamate system is dominating.GABA recepters will grow back eventually some ppl faster thn others!Lots o info out there!www.benzosupport.org/gaba.htm

Your video helped me a lot because I am struggling after taking 0.5 Klonipin for 14 years and this past year jumping up to 1 mg. because of course I was in tolerance. Didn't want to admit it b/c I was a psychologically dependent and seemed I could just believe it was working. I'm 29 years sober from alcohol and how ironic that I'm now in withdrawal which is 1000 times worse that getting off the booze. A higher power helped me stay sober all these years and ultimately this faith will help me through this. You have brought forward so many great coping skills and points to help one get through. Thank you for being you and sharing your heart. I'm poly drugged and have been off Zoloft for 3 months. I had anxiety issues when I got on this devil drug but that was a walk in the park. Yes, I too find myself in a rage against the machine or should I say big Pharma. Everything you have said has resonated with me whole heartedly. I'm hoping you are so much better now that some time has passed since you've posted this. For me the fear and the fear of fear is the worst and the feeling that I'm stuck like this forever. Hope and acceptance ~ gotta remember this!! Wow! Love and care about you too!! Gotta be warriors when we can!

Hi Brandon. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Tons of great advice! You are making a difference by sharing with everyone on youtube and you may be even saving lives. You are such a caring young man and that's so beautiful to witness. You are right though about reading too much and watching too many videos about withdrawal because it can scare the hell out of people. You are also so right about the horrifying insanity on the internet these days. It is scary stuff and the best thing we can do for ourselves is stay away from it. I have been withdrawing for a year from Valium of which I was taking 20 to 30 mgs. daily for at least five years, and probably longer. I don't know the equivalency of mgs. with other benzos but I think Valium is probably prescribed at higher doses than Klonopin and other drugs. I am a senior now and I already have more brain fog than I know how to deal with. I have pushed myself to get off of these quickly although I know the dangers of going too fast. I am down to 1/2 mg. as of the other day and boy am I feeling it, but I am hanging in there and I can't wait to be done. I wish the best for all of us and again, thank you so much for sharing with us. Best wishes to you and thanks for being a caring and loving human being.

Thank you. Someone asked on here why all the horror stories if stats say only 20% have withdrawal. Well, stats are often misleading. They don’t tell you how much people were taking, for how long, how often and other factions in life. Age and other health issues play a role. I withdrew fine.....the first time. There is a thing that happens when a person goes on and offf, the harder the withdrawal will be. Bottom line....Benzos are not for use except very short term or emergency only. That’s what it says on the crimp sheet. This is ignored by the medical and pharmacutical industry. Wanton disregard for patient safety.

Sent me into “menopause” range of hormones at age 27.. wanted to die so bad but made it through dealing with thyroid issues now and you’re right about the suicide thing. Besides both having lyme we both were on benzodiazepines my dad and I and this may he committed suicide (he didn’t choose to come off). Stay strong it takes time. Support and make sure your liver is clean. Eventually when you’re strong enough get doing coffee enemas you’ll feel like your brain is clearer and your cells will have power (gaba receptors are found throughout muscle tissues I believe that’s what makes exercising so hard that and you burn up all your cortisol and adrenaline by being in fight or flight) pregmenolone and dhea after levels have been measured can give you a new lease on life and nutrient iv’s can be a saver. March 13th of this year I was put on hydroxyzine hcl 50mg once a day and alprazolam. 05 3 times a day. I would only take it twice a day. 4 months ago I went to taking alprazolam just once a day and 2 weeks ago I stopped taking the hydroxyzine. I only take alprazolam once a day now and sometimes I skip a day. I find myself crying when I have to take it . I am now experiencing a slight pressure on my chest , heart palpitations and my jaw is sore because of the constant pressure from clenching it at night. I have to honestly say that even though taking these medications help me to control my depression and PTSD and panic attacks I'm able to do certain things on my own but not without a price to pay . I would have horrific nightmares that when I realized I was dreaming I couldn't wake myself up. Hallucinations, anxiety and fear of being alone. I was no longer the person I use to be before. I don't wish this on anyone not even my worst enemy. Coming of them slowly has been hard but I have no more nightmares thank you God , I can fall asleep on my own and I have no more pain or burning sensations in my joints. I try to keep busy. I'm grateful and blessed to have my family, I try to go for a walk every day. I take vitamins D3 with k2, tumeric, vitamin c with iron, and calcium and I'm trying to eat healthier. I stopped watching the news as it triggered my anxiety and other shows and movies that I use to love watching I don't watch anymore. I watch less TV and read more. I really feel that my low ferritin levels contributed to my mental health . My ferretin levels was a 5 . I was on venofore infusions for 2months a month after that they did blood work and my ferretin was at 192 . I was able to go up 2 flights of stairs without stopping at first I couldn't go up 3 steps without stopping and be breathless. I will keep you all in my prayers and I wish you all the best and God's blessings. Thank you for this video it gives me more strength and support. God bless you always.

My mom had a medical event where she got severely dehydrated due to the flu. She got confused and took too much of her prescribed medication. She ended up in the ICU for multi drug toxicity. She came home and decided to go off of Valium and hydrocodone and is in a psychosis right now ... She think we her family are controlling her thru electronics, that we are taking needles and puncturing her other medication... and that we stay outside her house at night and scream at her. All not true. Her doc cut her off after i was very angry at the high dose he had her on. 10 mg Valium 4 times a day and hydrocodone 4 times a day. So even if she wanted to slowly taper off it’s not a option. I called her doc tonight with concerns and he hasn’t called me back.. If I call a ambulance they won’t take her unless she agrees to go(law here) I do not know what to do! She’s hallucinating and isn’t in her right mind what so ever

Stacy Jaye Thank You We are getting her to eat little oranges and bananas with some Gatorade so she won’t go into electrolyte dehydration .. As a family we are considering a 10-13 thru the local authorities. Which will be forced medical attention... Hopefully a doc will reinstate and taper. As her family doctor will not agree to this. All he cares about is his liability for prescribing medications that are deadly when combined. Thank u so much for ur concern. I truly feel alone and I can’t imagine how my mom must be feeling.

I've been hoked on opioides and I know what it is to be sick but Benzo withdrawals that's an other level. Against Benzodiazepine there is nothing to lower your pain, you just have to wait for 10 days for body symptomes to lower and be bearable. If you want to start to quite, do it now, do it today. Peace.

Tha most horrible thing with benzodiazepine withdrawals is you don’t know what’s wrong with you it mimics so many other symptoms, one day you feel normal the next day your heads completely fucked .. I looked it as nature giving me a kick in for going against it, these drugs are so not normal but eventually mother nature brings you back home . a tip for those going through it .. eat lots of vegetables exercise when you can and intermittent fasting really helps. Do the keto diet it speeds the recovery up 100 percent
