The amount of ignorant parents who are not fit enough or have to low of a IQ to take care of kids. Pits have been know to turn on and kill children they have grown up with and should never be left alone like that. All it can take is the child to poke or play with the dog when it's not in the right mood and it's all over. In the UK it has happened many times and just last year I think there was a case of a pit killing a kid it spent years with. Before the vile sick disgusting pit owners come out with they must have treated it bad, the dog showed no prior signs of aggression before the attack and it was raised in a caring loving family. There is a reason why this bread has the highest kill rate from any dog, disproportionately so. Pitbulls were originally bread as d Fighting dogs and that instinct can lay dormant for years and unexpectedly appear at any time as many have unfortunately learned. It is well documented well raised pits have randomly turned on their owners /others with no prior notice . Kind of like a lion you can domesticate it to some degree but it's instinct will always be there.

Which is why supervision and training are critical. Responsible pet owners know their animals and teach their children how to interact with animals safely. I've seen a Chihuahua attack a person with no provocation and a pit bull gently separate fighting dogs. Breed does not determine temperament.

This reminds me of how my daughter was looked after by 4 big dogs when my daughter was born. Boots was an old farm dog and Rachel would roll all over him and cuddle with him. He wouldn’t care despite being old and arthritic, as long as it was Rachel that was rolling all over him. I’m so glad that this dog got a second chance with your son. Enjoy the moments.

@@jamesderrick8415 My parents had 2 big dogs when I was born. Apparently, even when my mom was pregnant, those dogs became her protecters. Once, some teen was trying to sell stuff door-to-door, and when my mom tried to close the door he pulled the foot-in-the-door trick and tried to push his way in. One of the dogs literally came running and leapt OVER my mom's head (she was standing) to put himself between them and growl, while the other just gently tried to nudge my mom further into the house while growling at the door. Needless to say, that kid RAN. And when I was born? Well, I was mom's new puppy. Those dogs DOTED on me. I used to ride one of them like a horse when I was small enough, and I even still remember that once I got too big, he would just sit down and I'd slide down his back to floor, and that became our game. All babies are too rough with pets - they literally don't have control of their limbs yet, and their best attempts at pets and pats become essentially slaps and smacks. These dogs would sit there gazing lovingly at me as I smacked them and babbled. As I got older and reached an age where I have memories of them, I just remember them both as being my closest friends. Not only did I love them with my whole being, but I knew they loved me just as much. They've both long since passed, as they were both middle-aged for a dog by the time I was even born, but growing up with dogs, especially big ones, definitely is something I'm grateful for!

I did socializing with dogs for a place called Helping Paws. My first dog was a pit bull who had been tied to a park table after giving birth, and was left bleeding. She was so abused she made the local news. I had never met a pit bull, but had heard scary stories. This abused pit bull was one of the sweetest dogs I worked with! I remember taking her out for a treat, and then taking her to my house to play with my dog! So glad I had a chance to socialize this beautiful doggy! They get a bad rap! What a beautiful story of a dog and baby this is!

Yeah it’s seriously irresponsible and idiotic to adopt a large rescue dog with small children, especially a breed like a pitbull.. it’s the exact reason over 1 million people a year are hospitalized from Pitbulls and a average of 10 kids are killed every year in the USA alone and that’s just from pits. Karen’s ignore genetic characteristics that factor into random acts of aggression because “it’s just a stereotype” Not all dogs are created equal! Pits are only 6% of the dog population but make up over 62% of dog attacks.. These people have good intentions but are seriously endangering their child and small animals.

Did I say that all Pitbulls were past the point of redemption and people should not be allowed to own them? No. I simply said that it is idiotic for people to assume that all dog breeds are the same and don’t have behavioral characteristics that are linked to their breed and random aggression is one that pits even if they are not adopted display more on average. Just like border collies naturally heard, Jack Russells naturally dig, and labs naturally love water, pitbulls have a instinct to fight and kill and it’s going to end in disaster because of people like you who thinks a pitbull and a golden retriever require the same level of discipline or preventative training. You also just made my point about pits having more issues on average due to the fact that they are used in fighting and come from bad homes, so why in the hell would someone risk that with a small child knowing that? Because they are uneducated and think all dogs are the same like you 😁 certain dogs need certain home environments and owners.. And for you’re snarky comment about leaving it up the the experts, as a pediatrician I have devoted my career to promoting the health and safety of children. Dog trainers and animal welfare organizations are primarily interested in the welfare of the animals and about a million pit bulls are in US shelters at any given time. Animal welfare organizations equate success with reducing those numbers through adoptions. Which means the priority is not on you or your family’s safety.. Claiming that pit bulls are just like any other dogs and pose no increased risk to children is completely wrong. This stupid claim is part of what is getting so many innocent children mauled or even killed by a these dogs.. pit bulls do not belong in homes with children. The medical data is clear. Pit bulls cause about half of the severe injuries to children, and very often the worst of the injuries. The majority of other dog breeds don’t pose remotely this risk but pit bull defenders want you to think that it’s normal for a dog to maul or kill thousands of children. It’s not.. The vast majority of dog breeds have never killed or mauled a child no matter how they are raised so..

I think one of the sweetest things is that it's this feeling that Nathan is a puppy she doesn't have to give up, and I think she truly treasures that. Same. Our pit doesn’t have self awareness. But his foster parents had toddlers. When it comes to them, potentially a stern lick in the face at most. I'm glad that she is sensible and understands that, no matter the breed, it is best to supervise a young child and a dog, especially shelter dogs which might have certain triggers from past mistreatment. I have a rescued Staffy which a lot of people mistake for a pitbull and people act like he's some vicious wild bear waiting to attack at any moment. Yes, dog attacks exist and that is why you have to make sure you are keeping a good eye on a dog around children especially. My mum got our staffy when I was about 8 and even then she refused to let him be in a room alone with me. Now it's pretty obvious that he is nothing but a big soppy gentle giant but I'm still grateful that she made sure I would be safe because kids don't always know how to treat a dog. I know a person whose kid decided to put their finger up their dog's bum (I know kids are silly, but who the hell let the kid do that?) and the dog turned around and bit them. Anyway, I'm really glad that Piggy Pie is happy and safe and can give Nathan all the kissies!

What's the point of "supervising" your child/dog? Do you think the dog will tell you "oy mum. I'm about to crush your brat's esophagus and sever her carotid with my teeth while attempting to break her neck with about ~300lbs of pressure. So please, stop me. I'll count to 100.". That's as useful as "supervising" your kid while it plays Russian roulette.

@@LoveYah1 The boy does have a relatively 'severe' mental disability which they kind of put the behaviour down to. I still find it strange that the parents just sat there and watched him do it though - disability or not, wouldn't you try your best to teach a child how to treat an animal?
