You missed the best feature: the crotch vent. Right under the steering column is a vent that blows on your crotch. This is the best thing ever in a car, especially if you are wearing shorts on a hot day while sitting in those leather seats. Also, the stock cassette/radio unit was quite advanced for cassette players. One thing was, it could skip songs on the cassette. You had a button to go to the next song, which even our home stereo unit in the house couldn't do. I loved these cars. My dad had an 86.5 and when I was in high school, my brother and I had to sit in the back seats for a family road trip through Texas. We survived.

I believe my older sister's old '84 Celica GTS had the same feature for the cassette player.

My first car was a supra MK3 manual transmission. it consumed almost as much oil as gas and repairs were costly, but the feeling and power/sound were something else. When you hear the Turbo spin up and feel the acceleration, looking over that long hood, good times.

Yeah, but, if they're anything like the cupholders in the ST162/165 Celicas of the same period (same spot, same style), they'd flunk the BFB test, too.

@@ravim.6524 Hmmm....Maybe that plastic sheet is missing from mine then. A little surprising because they car's interior is almost mint. Not a huge deal though because I honestly don't mess around with drinks in a car this nice. How you like your 88? How long have you had it and milage? Only owned mine for one year now, 117K miles. Put barely over 1K miles on her in that time but $10K in work/cosmetics lol. Never loved a car so much.

With the right mods (zulu etc) the 7m can make plenty of power and be reliable. I have the same car, making about to 580hp. There is a way to manually always have the TEMS in 3rd mode btw.

I had my 91 Supra about 13 years now. My 7M is putting down 450whp with just a SAFC2 piggyback and 19psi. Stock internals. Shim oil pump for more pressure, arp head studs instead of factory bolts, 3 layer head gasket torqued to 90ft pounds. 85k miles with many track days and no head issues.

If you're serious about that, you pretty much have to buy right now. They will only climb in value and you'll want a nice one which is not an easy find for the right price. I'm completely overjoyed with my 88 I picked up last year. Not letting her go.

@@carsmusicandclothing7066 Strange. I've seen those crazy batrret jackson MK3 auctions with basically brand new early 90's ones and it's usually like $40K-ish. But those never really reflect real values anyway. Mine has 117K miles, but for the age, the interior is still really good. The body would be very good once the 3 bumpers and targa top get re-sprayed...yeah that's going to cost me a ton.

@@carsmusicandclothing7066 Haha, I'm not expert man. I bought my 88' MK3 Supra with 115K NA Auto miles in the summer of 2021for $8,000. It's quite high for what it is, but it also had the head gasket replaced and new valves. It's in great shape. I honestly wouldn't want anything more. Since then I've poured $13K into on just basic maintenance and cosmetic stuff (no paint). I'll never get anything remotely out of her if I sold it if I tried, but It's fine. I want to keep her forever. The prices on MK3s are completely all over the place and nice ones are EXTREMELY rare. IMO it's just worth it to find one and fix them up. I went the aftermarket route myself, but nothing too crazy.

One of the best GT cars, bar none. I don't think they ever marketed it as a sports car, that was purely the MKIV Supra. But that's fine because GT cars have gone the way of the dinosaur even though I think having a cruiser is the coolest thing ever and they nailed it. Even my stock NA auto is torquey enough for the hills and fast enough to have some fun with without going nuts on mods.

@rushnerd

@@R2-D2663 If the engine is fixed, the only real drawback is the massive body roll (I've solved this with beefy sway bars and nice suspension) and the massive weight of the car. Thanks so much for all your great, informative & valuable videos! The 1st thing I noticed while driving my 95 C4 home for the 1st time the day I bought it was, after the sun went down, there was this annoying light that I couldn't figure out how to shut off...it was the 1st Easter Egg on your list LOL. All the other items save for the light in the spare tire area are things I discovered right away or knew about* before buying my C4 but alas, my 95 doesn't have the spare tire area light. But one Easter Egg I didn't discover for a few months was that my door arm rests were actually lids to storage compartments. *My heart was set on a convertible and shopped and researched them for years so I knew about the ⚾ baseball bat - 🌭- apple pie - Chevrolet bowtie molded in certain years of convertibles under the rear carpet.

I bought the non turbo version with a 5 speed brand new for $19.2K in 1987. Car and Driver tester came in at 0-60 at 7 seconds, owners got a car that was more like an 8 second car. Provided 2-3K mile oil changes, drove the car gently for 130 K miles and it was worn out. 12K original warranty, radio died early on, out of warranty. Double overhead cams had "spark plug gaskets" in the head. Those gaskets needed replacement ($275) every 60K miles, otherwise the plugs would oil foul and the engine would barely run. The interior panels fell apart, I noticed the driver door interior lock cover came off - so did mine on both doors. A/C replaced at about 80K miles. Completely rusted out around both rear tail lights and underneath the rear hatch. Starter motor died at about 90K miles. Transmission, rear end were always quiet and smooth. Toyota has come a long way since then for this in my opinion was a crappy and slow disappointment.. I do remember when I picked it up at the dealer that the engine was so quiet I asked the salesman if the engine was running. I sold it for $1300 in 1995 and i was glad to get rid of it.
@rushnerd
@rushnerd 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know what the hell you did to yours, but I just bought one last year with 115K miles with pretty much none of those issues. Best interior I've ever seen. Motor be re-gasketed and valves re-done, but other than that didn't need much. It's the coolest car I've ever seen or owned. Selling it for $1,300 in 95' is sad and hilarous. I bought my NA 88' for $8K.
