Let me help you, boom!” That being said, after changing the suspension/alignment/brakes and adding 265F/305R, this car has been amazing at the track, no more bump steer and unpredictability. I agree. It definitely reminds me of the bmw m2 with the n55 engine that people called “not a real m car” (not the m2 competition with the m3/4 engine). I haven't seen people complaining about all the supercar made of AMG V8 engines. For some reasons, I think all the people who are bitching about the Supra being a BMW are all those people who either can't afford the car or wouldn't have purchase one anyway because if Toyota had develop a Supra by their own with their own chassis, drive train + a brand new inline 6, it would have cost 20k more than the BMWish one. Here is my feedback as a 21 Supra owner - these cars are not in the same class as the GR86/BRZ cost wise or performance wise. I see that many folks are comparing the Supra and the new Nissan Z, but nobody has even tested or even driven a new Nissan Z yet. I will dare to say it: There is no manual coming for the 202X Toyota Supra. This car is done in 2025 and there will be no replacement. That comment is not a rumor, it is fact. The 2022 Supra gets some upgraded interior leather colors and a "Carbon" edition with some new Carbon Fiber side skirts/front accents/duckwing spoiler - nothing new there performance wise. The A9x Supras are going to be the same as the Lexus F cars - internet people dogged them when they came out, but after they were gone they go "Man, Toyota/Lexus should make a V8 RWD sedan again." I can't comment on the long wide sweeper rear end coming around issue - around what speed/gear are you seeing this happen? I drive with all nannies off and I have no issues on long bending sweepers such as coming off of I94 onto Grand Avenue in Gurnee - but I admit that is not a race track. I also think many folks are also missing the point that the aftermarket has taken to the Supra very well - there are folks running unopened engine Supras at 9 second quarter miles at 148 miles per hour - very similar to the previous generation Supra...they can be turned into land missiles. Just like my flawed 08 IS-F that I have owned for 13 years (Ok - I admit it I upgraded to the Torsen diff early on) this flawed Supra is going to be missed when its gone when we are all forced at gunpoint by the Liberals to drive our government rented electric toaster boxes. if you work in corporate world, GR product lines make a perfect sense. Lower risk, added brand-ability, more revenue, more sales volume, meeting the pure car enthusiast needs, focusing on selective R&D, dedicate efforts on post-production configuration. Increasing number of companies opt out of end-to-end development and turn into lego builder i.e. buy A B C 1 2 3 and integrate them to their taste. @bfife223 жыл бұрын
People expect Toyota to spend a ton to design a bespoke platform and engine that would make no sense to use in any of their other cars, for a car segment that doesn't sell super well. Or to just lazily throw in a V6 from a Lexus just to say "it's a Toyota engine"

Society has become more and more recreationally toxic as time has gone on post internet. So many people are compelled to post negative thoughts but rarely the positive ones, despite the fact the overwhelming majority of them would never have said such things in person. People are desensitized to social skills and norms and enjoy putting things down in a remote capacity. The car can be great for A, B, C, and D but those people won't post what's good about the car, especially when they don't actually don't know much about it, its easier for them to just parrot the negative E. Yes, the Supra is largely a BMW but its a great sportscar and turns heads. When I look at a car the first things I think of are what it was built to do and what it is good for- these commenters just look for opportunities to be toxic. I was a bit surprised to see Mark harp so much on the negative social media driven complaints about the car given his other videos on it where he was obviously tired and fed up with all of that talk and genuinely enjoyed driving it.
@YT1300MF3 жыл бұрын
Like the others said, you aren’t listening. A great deal of the appeal of a Japanese sports car is shocker, being designed and built in Japan. Not to mention the reliability that comes with the Toyota name. And it’s not just the drivetrain, nearly every part in the car belongs to BMW. It’s built in Europe ffs. Not to mention this car is not even fitted with the for a manual, despite the BMW version having the option. “Too expensive” for Toyota to do their own homework? So damn sick of this excuse. They are one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, they could easily afford their own bespoke platform. Tiny little Mazda still makes their own. Just about every other manufacturer has their own bespoke sports car, but Toyota is either too lazy, too greedy, or too risk averse to even try.

In all honesty, the GR 86 actually looks like a lot more fun for a lot less money - not to mention that the design of the 86 looks better than the Supra in my opinion (and yes, I've seen the Supra in person).The first thing I noticed when glancing at the interior of this GR Supra was the automatic transmission. I was thinking they might finally stick a manual in this thing. I realize that automatics offer better performance these days, but some of us just prefer driving a manual - it's really that simple. The best infotainment system in the world can never make up for this and I wish that such systems were optional as I'd choose to do without infotainment altogether were it possible.

For real. C8 Corvette exists and Toyota couldn't make a Supra?
@bfife223 жыл бұрын
Being able to afford something, and being able to justify something are two very different things. Developing a brand new inline-6 engine and platform to use in one car, and one that will most likely not meet emissions rules in only a few years in a lot of countries makes no sense, especially at such a low volume. Reusing a 4000lb Lexus platform with an aging V6 would end up as just an RC with a cheaper interior. The lack of a manual option, and to a greater degree, the lack of any effort to make the interior something unique are the biggest missteps
@steadyboost73 жыл бұрын
It's not that they probably couldn't afford to do it. It's just that if they did it 100% in house, we'd be looking at a Supra somewhere in the $75-90k. They don't have a factory with the machinery or tooling necessary to build an online 6 and haven't had one able to do that for at least 10 years. Getting back to that capacity costs money and to even break even on that cost would be in the high 8-figure range. And Toyota isn't selling something they won't at the very least recover costs on, so that means potential Supra buyers are going to be looking at a price tag much closer to the LC500. As far as why GM was able to do it for the price they did, they've been using derivatives of the LS for decades now. All the money they spent on development was recovered a very long time ago so at this point, it's pennies in comparison to developing a brand new one. Plus, they're reusing much more parts in general that Toyota didn't have in the first place. Little things like buttons and switches add up like crazy when you scale up into the thousands every year and something as little as the window switch from a Camry get swapped out for one from an LS460. What seems like $2-5 to the end consumer at the Toyota parts counter will cost Toyota $3-5k when scaled. At that up for every button in a car and you'll see why they went the route they did. I can't afford one, but still would have liked to see it come with a manual anyway.

@@alexmercer8042 Toyota asked previous owners of Supras what the most important thing the new Supra needed to have, and more people said an Inline-6 than even a manual transmission, so blame them. As a Supra owner for a little over a year I love my car just as much as the first day I got it. As far as the unpredictable rear, mine doesn't seem to have that issue even on track (though I'm nowhere near as experienced as Mark) but I've heard from owner forums that this issue doesn't seem to happen with every car for some reason, so maybe it is an alignment thing. Either way, as Mark said, for the money (I paid $48k for a 20' premium) it's a spectacular car. The rear suspension reacts that way because it's alignment changes drastically in bump/compression. This is caused by having lower connecting points for the connecting arms in the chassis due to the z4 roof convertible roof taking the place up above the rear axle in the chassis.
