Nothing wrong with another GR Supra video Mark and Jack. These revisit/retrospective reviews particularly on sportscars are very informative and intriguing to watch as perspectives change over the years. Savage G, you’re the man. I’ve been tracking my 2021 Supra for the last year and half and you hit the nail on the head. As I was learning the Supra’s limit, it became apparent early on that the backend would snap out in a strange way, almost as if the car was saying, “hey nerd, you trying to drift? Let me help you, boom!” That being said, after changing the suspension/alignment/brakes and adding 265F/305R, this car has been amazing at the track, no more bump steer and unpredictability. Thanks for your continued honesty and accurate reviews/information. Very cool to see this when I can relate and truly see how good your reviews/info really are.

@@bfife22 I keep hearing people quote $40k for the new Z but the only confirmation from Nissan as far as I am aware is that it will be "...from the low 40's". We got the same story with the C8 "...from $61k" but that's a far cry from reality on top of they fact they massively strip the car to advertise that/pique interest. @@dylanfarris7647 It’s BMW , ironically Toyota says it was too expensive to develop their own, so they partner with BMW, it’s made in a BMW factory in Austria what did you expect, it’s going to be at Euro prices and 50k really prices have dropped already! Also people calling it JDM, it’s not JDM, it’s not made in Japan at all, it’s name only, it’s like Hugo Boss saying designed in Germany made in China and sold at a German priced This is the fake world we live in. I’ll happily take a Nissan made in Japan for 40k and fix its problems than at minimum a 50k find that hard to believe and still have to pump money in it to get it right and it still dosent have a MT. Another thing ai find funny is these guys like many others use the excuse sports cars don’t sell in big numbers, they never did, the original Supra never sold well in the US and was pulled from the market at the time due to low volume sales, you make a flagship car or a sports car to sell your mass vehicles, it shows what a brand is capable of and trickles down, perception or otherwise win on Sunday sell on Monday, it’s why cars like the Nissan GTR got names like Godzilla, outside of the US original Supra’s we’re loved before Fast n Furious but in the US it took a game and a movie to make it and market it as a legendary car, not so for the Subaru Impreza WRX/STi , Skyline GTR, Mitsubishi EVO, RXs they all did this in competition and outside the US are were already loved desired without marketing hype! Real world didn’t need hype, results delivered legends when it was a real world not a fake one!

Outside, you can change its visual style if you go one wheel size smaller and get the differently colored side elements. Makes it look more sleek and elegant while the bigger wheels make it look more compact and nimble. I'd say the former is better for achieving some of the oldschool Supra vibe. The owner also said he's gonna send the steering wheel to a specialist to have the lower end flattened to have more clearance towards his legs.

Another perspective: The new Supra has the same motor/transmission (B58 i6/ZF 8-speed) as the BMW M340i. The M340i is a stupidly fast car and costs significantly more than the Supra for the same equipment... and the Supra is faster. That motor has been named to Wards 10-best powertrains for several years, and for good reason; it's one of the smoothest, most responsive engines you can get south of $100k. The 400Z is a 370Z with a power bump, that's it. It's a parts bin special with a chassis from the stone age. I daily drove a 370Z for 60K miles. It was outdated back in 2010 when I bought it. I will be truly shocked if the reviews of the 400Z say it's much more than that. Just my opinion, and I want to be wrong, I want the 400Z to be a revival for Nissan sports cars... but I don't see how it can when so much of it is carryover ancient Nissan hardware.

@@nategjesdal4405 I was thinking about the same thing. I DO NOT hate 370Z or upcoming 400Z, but it`s an upgrade of an ancient car so I`m not sure if it can compete in the same game as Supra, which is a relatively new BMW-based vehicle that focuses on the racing performance. Yes, only 20% of the 400Z`s components are exactly the same as the previous model but it`s still based on the exact same platform. I personally think that those two cars have slightly different design intent so it finally comes down to the customer`s preferences. I love how exotic it looks for the price, and I'm actually VERY glad that they didn't pair that opulence/ character with a Toyota interior fitting of the rest of the lineup. As a Supra owner for a little over a year I love my car just as much as the first day I got it. As far as the unpredictable rear, mine doesn't seem to have that issue even on track (though I'm nowhere near as experienced as Mark) but I've heard from owner forums that this issue doesn't seem to happen with every car for some reason, so maybe it is an alignment thing. Either way, as Mark said, for the money (I paid $48k for a 20' premium) it's a spectacular car. No it's not a C8, but that's as fair a comparison as putting the supra up against a GR86 when you factor in price. And who really knows how the Z will drive, we'll find out soon and can start comparing then.

Contrary to Mark's take on the lack of Toyotaness, I feel I got a great BMW with Toyota reliability and practicality. That it handles as brilliantly as it does is an added bonus. This car does not make you a better driver, rather, it makes you aware of your deficiencies and your need to learn the car and adapt to it. Not easily done but once you get it, this car is very satisfying and a joy to drive at any speed. As an aside, my Supra replaced a 997 Carrera S PDK.

If we are taking most of your statement in consideration, the GT86 is not a toyota as well, it's a pure Subaru development from the engine, to the drive trains (the first gen atleast). The GT86 doesn't feel more Toyota than the Supra, it just feels like a nice rwd entry level sporty car with a lack of torque, but it doesn't drive or feel like the older Cellica or Supra. I haven't seen people complaining about all the supercar made of AMG V8 engines. For some reasons, I think all the people who are bitching about the Supra being a BMW are all those people who either can't afford the car or wouldn't have purchase one anyway because if Toyota had develop a Supra by their own with their own chassis, drive train + a brand new inline 6, it would have cost 20k more than the BMWish one. In any case, great video as always :)

I test drove a 3.0 and 2.0 back to back about the same time this video came out and found I loved the feel of the 2.0 liter much more than the 6 cylinder, but the 2.0 doesn't feel quite like it's justified in price and feels like a BMW from the way it drives, looks inside, and let's be honest, I would have to modify the car to appreciate it, which defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place. I've loved my 2018 Civic Si and have over 70,000 miles around the country and on racetracks, and that's what I so badly wanted the Supra to be like but with more power and rwd characteristics but I can't bring myself to emotionally want the car enough to buy it since at its core it's a BMW. I really hope a manual comes out within the next couple of years, otherwise I'm probably going to get an electric car as my new daily since the market isn't offering any decent sports cars any longer. The rear suspension reacts that way because it's alignment changes drastically in bump/compression. This is caused by having lower connecting points for the connecting arms in the chassis due to the z4 roof convertible roof taking the place up above the rear axle in the chassis. You can add an aftermarket rear subframe from germany that has corrected the problem, but have to cut into the chassis for the install.

Here is my feedback as a 21 Supra owner - these cars are not in the same class as the GR86/BRZ cost wise or performance wise. I see that many folks are comparing the Supra and the new Nissan Z, but nobody has even tested or even driven a new Nissan Z yet. I will dare to say it: There is no manual coming for the 202X Toyota Supra. This car is done in 2025 and there will be no replacement. That comment is not a rumor, it is fact. The 2022 Supra gets some upgraded interior leather colors and a "Carbon" edition with some new Carbon Fiber side skirts/front accents/duckwing spoiler - nothing new there performance wise. The A9x Supras are going to be the same as the Lexus F cars - internet people dogged them when they came out, but after they were gone they go "Man, Toyota/Lexus should make a V8 RWD sedan again." I can't comment on the long wide sweeper rear end coming around issue - around what speed/gear are you seeing this happen? I drive with all nannies off and I have no issues on long bending sweepers such as coming off of I94 onto Grand Avenue in Gurnee - but I admit that is not a race track. I also think many folks are also missing the point that the aftermarket has taken to the Supra very well - there are folks running unopened engine Supras at 9 second quarter miles at 148 miles per hour - very similar to the previous generation Supra...they can be turned into land missiles. Just like my flawed 08 IS-F that I have owned for 13 years (Ok - I admit it I upgraded to the Torsen diff early on) this flawed Supra is going to be missed when its gone when we are all forced at gunpoint by the Liberals to drive our government rented electric toaster boxes. It's a business and car companies are looking to maximize profits. My question is would it have been better to build their own sports car based on the LC500 platform/transmission, lose some money but keep that respect/reputation of originality and quality? I think the new Supra is a fantastic sports car but it keeps having that cloud over it that it's not 100% Toyota and mostly a BMW. Give me a Supra that costs more ($10K more) and based on the LC500 with a Toyota engine that has bullet proof reliability over a BMW Supra any day of the week. @@benbunch4159 Mark explained it perfectly in this very video, watch it again. If you don't at least understand, that's your fault, you don't have to agree, but at least it's understandable. Like you just said, "people are just really attached to the Supra name" THAT'S EXACTLY IT. it MEANS something its got history, the Yaris name means nothing and people who buy Yaris probably don't know and don't care, cuz it's a Yaris. I don't know enough about the history of the 124 to comment, but I have seen people make fun of it being a Mazda though. Mark also said this in the video, the 86 is mostly Subaru, but people weren't upset, cuz it doesn't really have history, it basically a brand new car with a borrowed corolla chassis code for its name, and it's Japanese. It's the same concept as people hating the new Dart, or new Blazer, or new F150 Lightning, it's not what it was, not what the name was. The Supra isn't defined as a 2 door 2 seat inline 6. Much like the R35 GTR, people were upset at first that it went from an I6 to V6, but it got nooooowhere nearrrr as much hate as the new Supra, people got over it the first year because it's hard to hate on an engine layout when the car's smashing records, but you can forever hate on a re-skinned BMW that doesn't "spiritually", inherit the Supra name, not to mention it's not going near any records of any kind, but I get that wasn't the point. Basically, I don't want a Supra that drives like a BMW, if I want to drive a BMW, I'd get an BMW. To drive a Supra, I want one that drives "Japanese", If they had given it a brand new never used before name, people won't be as mad. It's like a historically popular Japanese character being portrayed by a white German actor... No matter how good the actor is with his German accent speaking Japanese, it feels wrong. Also, thanks for changing your tone.

I would choose the Nissan Z. Not because of bias but after comparing all these newer vehicles, i think it attracts me the most. Features, engine, drivetrain, manual. I like the supra tbh but it does bother me a little that its mostly bmw

It would never beat anything that BMW makes currently. I used own several JDM modded cars but after driving M2, it's a different league. You can have your 400HP little Z car but any BMW M cars today will mop up the Nissan Z on the track.

Finally someone mentioning the fact that the 400z is just a 20 year old chassis (which wasn’t great to begin with) with a new motor slapped in it. I can’t wait till we can put it head to head with the Supra, and I have a feeling the Supra will be the better car.

It'll likely be the better car dynamically, however every other measure (interior, design, ergonomics, long term prospects) might go to the Z. I can't confidently say if this Supra will withstand the test of time the MKIV has. I just loved the FT-1 concept. The transition to this just wasn't adding up. And this is without the price factor.

Having only seen a few in person, it's actually very good looking. I know it's not a "great" sports car, but it's definitely not the worse car you could buy for $50k. If it had a stick it would go from 6/7 to an 8 out of 10.

It's got a lot of tuning potential as well. The B58 is pretty interesting.
