How has the ape-man story changed over time? Is this idea driven by neutral evidence or the bias of people committed to Naturalism? Bryan Osborne takes on one of the sacred cows of atheism.

@@smilloww2095 Well, take a look at Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn. It's not just updating theories with very minor changes, but if the evidence falsifies the theory, auxiliary hypotheses cannot be added to bail out the theory. Neither should scientists ignore or alter evidence even though they do these very things to save the theory. Instead, the entire paradigm should be replaced by another. As Kuhn demonstrates, scientists are loathe to completely throw out their pet theories.

@@technicianbis5250 well it’s not up to me to “force” anything. It’s up to insane amounts of evidence. Positive evidence. Creationist and most alternative hypotheses come down to solely negative evidence which is why they aren’t accepted. Negative evidence is basically “I don’t accept this explanation therefore god did it” where positive evidence is direct proof of the idea. Like if you were able to find genetic evidence of Adam and Eve that would be positive evidence if you were able to prove dinosaurs are only 6,000 years old using a realizable dating method, that would be positive evidence. Saying “Lucy was rebuilt therefore she’s not what we think” is not positive evidence. And of course Lucy was rebuilt in some ways. There seems to be this misconception that digging old bones is easy work, it’s not at all, they shatter and break and do all kinds of things that require molds to be made. That doesn’t mean the skeleton or mold is fictional. It just means we didn’t have an entire skeleton. Like we the earth is so big we can’t take a big picture of the entire planet with any near earth satellites so they have to stitch and edit photos together to fit the whole earth into the picture. That doesn’t mean the earth isn’t real and the photos aren’t representing something real.

Have you ever truly considered you could be wrong? Or ever seriously looked into evolution, I don’t mean looking up “evolution debunked” or anything like that, but actually looking into the evidence for evolution.
@TheMidnightLibrary
@TheMidnightLibrary Жыл бұрын
@@mysteriousscience2818 there is no evidence for evolution. It’s science fiction. And evolution, along with all other scientific religious beliefs, does not explain existence itself. Have you never considered for yourself where all this came from? Did it just always exist? Did it come from nothing? Neither of these explanations has any evidence, so you have to have faith. At the ends of all scientific theories is mass amounts of speculation. Nobody knows. Why is God such an impossible solution for you? The reason scientific study began in the first place is because theists believed they would find complexity in the universe because they believed in intelligent design and knew they would find evidence by studying creation. I don’t know where along the line science was divorced from even the idea of God. It seems to me you’re left with much more questions in your worldview than I am. You have to explain how morality, conscience, and consciousness came from literally nothing. Absolutely no scientific theory explains the complexity of the universe. Existence itself is written off completely, evolution assumes the existence of an organism that is capable of evolving in the first place. Where did that come from? And how does it mutate? Seriously think about it. Evolution is science fiction. Even Darwin himself admitted his theory did not explain the very existence of life itself, it only offered a loose explanation for the many different life forms on this planet. Final question for you, have _you_ ever considered you might be wrong? Have you ever seriously tried to find God with an open mind? Or are you just putting all your blind faith in scientists and scientific theories that are also based in blind faith, the same thing you look down on religious people for having? “If I’m wrong about God, then I wasted my life. If you’re wrong about God, then you wasted your eternity.” - Lecrae
@mysteriousscience2818
@mysteriousscience2818 Жыл бұрын
@@TheMidnightLibrary there’s an astounding amount of evidence for evolution. You’re using the classic god of the gaps argument, which is “science can’t explain how this started and a few other things therefore god is the only answer” I don’t know where this came from, but neither do you and there’s a lot more evidence for evolution than there is god. All you have is a book that’s been edited over 30,000 times by people in positions of power. I’ll lay out some basic lines of evidence of evolution Why does every living species on the earth have DNA in common? Humans and tomatoes, humans and bananas, humans and squids, dogs and squids, dogs and cats, etc. it’s because we all evolved from a similar ancestor. Why do all mammals have the exact same structure? 4 limbs, 2 eyes, 2 eyes, 2 nostrils, facial hair, 2 sets of teeth, hair in general, etc. Why do whales have inner ear bones unlike every other marine mammal except dolphins? Why do they have femurs? Why can’t they breathe under water? Etc. because whales and dolphins both evolved from land mammals. Why does life get more and more simple the deeper into soil layers we go? Because life has evolved to be more and more complex throughout its existence. So the reason science doesn’t accept most creation hypotheses is because they’re solely based off of negative evidence. Which means it’s all like this “I don’t accept this date or this idea, therefore this other idea is the truth.” Science needs positive evidence, like everything I just laid out which is direct proof of the idea in question. And to answer your final question, yes I’ve asked myself if I’ve been wrong. I grew up in Christian schools studying the Bible my entire life. I didn’t truly become an atheist until began my scientific career when I became a chemistry major and am now a geoscience major. Also when I heard about the parallels between all religions I began to have my doubts. Religions that pre date the Bible have many Half god half man beings that died for three days and was resurrected, were born of a virgin, had 12 disciples, etc. Also I don’t have “blind faith” in science. I don’t think it’s anything to have faith in, you can’t have “faith” in evidence. It’s like saying you have faith in 2+2 being 4. Also im not sure you actually know what a scientific theory is. It’s not just a guess. That’s a hypothesis. A scientific theory is a hypothesis that has been tested hundreds of times and passed all of the tests. A fact is a basic observation, a theory is the explanation for that fact, a theory can never become a fact. Because they are two different things. And again just because evolution can’t explain every single thing ever about life right now doesn’t mean it’s false. It just means we have more to learn because there are thousands of lines of evidence for evolution, 99% of which you probably haven’t read. I have a feeling you’ve only looked into things like “evolution debunked” etc. look up the video ‘evidence for evolution’ by Richard Dawkins. It does a great job of spelling it all out in a way people can understand easily.

DNA is just a molecule, if it is kept away from oxygen and other molecules it interacts with, it’s shelf life is a million+ years. It will degrade significantly in that time. But not every copy will degrade evenly. Imagine a puzzle where the same sentence is written on 50 copies of paper and for each copy a random segment of a random length is cut and put in a bag. The puzzle would be to rebuild the original sentence, which im sure you could do given enough segments. In the case of the fossil the degraded DNA is like one of the segments in the bag, a piece of its formal self, but the sum total of the bag as a whole can give you back the sequence.

Yet there is 0 evidence that proves God is real or that most of the bible happened. The flood is the biggest gaping hole in creationism, while no one has an issue with someone believing in a God i think people only have issue with things being taught to children without any proof. If the Earth is only 6000 years old, which Genesis does not actually claim but this channel apparently does, then all of its fossil fuels aren't actually "fossil" and were created and God could simply create more! It also means all men were CREATED, and that means, created equal, since there was only one man how can he not be equal? So I would expect Young Earth Creationists to be NOT racist in the slightest. However, evolutionists must necessary accept that speciation and subspecies can and will have a wide variety of differences; most of which are not politically correct to enumerate and examine.

Ad hominem fallacy, "Truth Giver." By the way, if Darwinism were the correct account of our origin and our capacities, we would not be capable of recognizing truth. Rather we would only be capable of acting on what will enhance our survival, which might not correspond with the way the world actually is. See cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman's TedTalk video available on KZbin for an exposition of this problem. Also, if there were no Logos, there would be no rational order to nature. @@truthgiver8286 Your entire line of thinking is off. If you don't think scientists of all stripes have a pre-disposition to believe certain things or rule out certain things, you are missing a key part of the way the scientific community as well as human nature actually work. First, there is the belief bias effect that affects most everyone and that is when presented with an argument, people tend to believe without questioning it if they agree with it and if they disagree with it, they immediately start looking to disprove it at all costs. Second, you need to read Thomas Kuhn's *The Structure of Scientific Revolutions* about how all scientific inquiry among professional scientists is shaped by the paradigm they are trained in so that anomalies in the dominant paradigm are overlooked or dismissed until they become so blatantly obvious and strike at the heart of the paradigm that they cannot be ignored. Then scientists will wait to admit to the problems and discard the dominant paradigm only when another paradigm emerges to their suiting. As Robert Nozick and others point out, there are a large number of conceptual frameworks for any set of facts. Scientists choose from these competing paradigms based on how they deal with the anomalies that sunk the previous paradigm, but also to their personal liking based on all sorts of other issues including the philosophical or religious implications of each paradigm. Then they seek to suppress all alternative paradigms.

If it is true, that french bulldogs comes from wolves, doesn't that mean that today's wolves will evolve into french bulldogs? No, of course not. And that is not even a correct analogy, because humans did not evolve from today's apes. To understand evolution instead of thinking "A evolved into B" you better should think of "A and B have a common ancestor". And many people seem to think that evolution has a direction to something "higher". But also that is wrong. Yes, we are more intelligent than chimpanzees, and we developed culture and changed the world massivley. But from a biology view, we are just different, but not "higher evolved". Do you think that a certain dog breed is "higher" or "lower" evolved than a wolf? No. In a population not all individuals are exact clones of each other. Instead some are smaller, others bigger. Some have more fur, some have less fur. And some are smarter, others are dumber. But depending on the circumstances, a bigger brain capacity doesn't necessarily increase the probability of having offspring.

There is God's Providence that governs human affairs and our personal lives every day. People pray and feel God's presence as he leads them to act by direct communication...if you are listening to the Holy Spirit. Credible people have these spiritual experiences on a regular basis. Perhaps, you are referring to miracles. God still performs miracles. There are spontaneous healings, for example, that medical science cannot explain following someone praying for the person who is ill. But miracles are rare. They were rare in ancient times. The Bible is very condensed and focuses in on significant events so the impression you are getting that the Red Sea is being parted and people raised from the dead occurring on a daily basis is due to a careless reading of the Bible.

If you study the actual theory, it doesn’t say what exploded, why it exploded or how it exploded. It simply says that about 13.8 billion years ago the universe was incredibly small dense and hot and was expanding. Prior to that, we can only speculate as the current laws of nature break down at that point. Additionally, it’s really easy to stand in front of a crowd of avid believers and go on a rant about how all the science is wrong. @@christophergraves6725 the cosmological argument makes the assumption that not only must there be a 1st cause to the universe, but that cause must be a conscience all powerful being. There is no reason to assume the universe has a cause. Simply because everything in the universe appears to have a cause, does not mean the universe itself needs one. The universe might be eternal, an endless series of big bangs. Or an infinite multiverse. We do not know the answer. And to just make one up makes no sense. @@fess749 The age of the revelation makes no difference to its truth. When people lived has no bearing on the truth claims they make. Socrates, Plato and Aristotle developed philosophy at the highest levels that has not been surpassed. They are still cited today and they developed their inquires with very little preceding it. By the way, the ancients knew the world was round. Also, the Bible does not ever present the universe centered physically on the earth. That was Eudoxus in the Fourth century B.C. And by the way, what I take is your metaphysical view of materialism and randomness were developed in ancient times as well by Democritus and Lucretius. Newton, who was a Christian and an intelligent design theorist, brought back atomism from its ancient origin and applied it to modern physics without accepting materialism as a totalizing metaphysical doctrine. He just posited atomism for the physical composition of objects in the world. Even so, the books of the Bible were not the product of human beings. These writings were inspired by God. Why would God wait until thousands of years later to reveal himself to people? The Bible's accounts date back to the beginning of time. God gave the ancient Hebrews guidance and set the stage for the redemption of humanity through them that even precedes them since God had already planned for the redemption of humanity in Genesis 3:15. So, a text being ancient does not invalidate it. This is a type of a Genetic fallacy where you consider the truth of a claim or set of claims based on its origin and the date of its origin, all of which are irrelevant to the truth of the matter. All things in the physical world have a cause including the world itself. Otherwise you would have to say that the universe just popped into existence out of absolutely nothing. That is impossible. Not only would the universe have just spontaneously popped into existence, but it and us within it came into existence with a rational order that makes science possible as I pointed out in an earlier comment. So, something outside of the physical universe caused the universe to come into existence and into existence with an underlying rational order to it, contrary to a random universe that would only be possible, if at all, if there were no Logos, no Divine rational organizing principle of the universe and humans with a rational intellect that exceeds the materialism of their bodies and is not subject to the laws of causality entirely, otherwise no free will and no rationality. Remember no Logos, no natural scientific laws and no moral law. No rational consciousness, no rational study of the universe that is made possible by minds that mirror the rationality intrinsic in the material world. Materialism cannot account for consciousness, rationality, or free will as David Chalmers has pointed us to in his "Hard Problem" of consciousness as well as Darwin's account of the mind that evolved only to enhance survival as Donald Hoffman & others point out. Darwin himself recognized that he could not account for the human mind being able to recognize truth. Take a look at videos on here featuring philosopher John Gray who correctly points out that science is a Christian production and is wildly inconsistent with atheistic materialism since if atheism were the case, there would be no rational structure to the physical world. Everything, as Darwin suggested, would be purely random. Nietzsche also pointed out the moral and epistemic nihilism that results from atheism in his rejection of the "will to truth." There is no truth if there is no Logos as the PostModernists correctly point out. The universe is not eternal since it started at a certain point in the past estimated to be 13.7 billion years ago. If it came from a "multiverse," then where did the multiverse come from and how did it lead to the creation of our universe? There is zero evidence for any such a thing, and no way that it could cause our universe since it has no connection to it even if it were out there somewhere. That is why the postulation of the multiverse is pure metaphysical speculation. The rationality that we see in the universe could only come from a conscious mind since it is impossible for rationality to develop apart from a rational consciousness. There can be apparently discernible rational patterns for a time, but they cannot be sustained indefinitely if there is no Logos. What would seem to be stably structured could just flip suddenly to another pattern. There is not an endless series of Big Bangs since there must be something that bangs every time. The universe cannot fall back onto itself and then bang out again. The drive that forced out the stuff that became the universe, in its ordered structure that we can model mathematically, shoots away from the original explosion to the extent that it will never be able to coalesce again. All parts of the universe are being projected out and away from one another continuously so that they can never fall back together again. Your alternatives to God creating the universe are much more fantastic and complex (what happened to Occam's Razor?) than a Creator who is the seat of all rationality and order that spun out the universe just as Moses describes in Genesis 1 under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Yes, there are demons and they can lead people to act immorally as they tempt us constantly. When a person gives himself/herself over to complete evil, then they can inhabit the person's body and drive them into all sorts of destructive behavior. In these cases, physical disease is not present. It is a spiritual deterioration that then can lead to a physical deterioration. We face temptation only because we are spiritual beings in part and have free will that empowers us to weigh and evaluate reasons, not causes, for our actions. We can override and redirect our impulses and drives in a way that materialism cannot account for just as it cannot even account for consciousness or rationality at all. Yes, God created the universe and the earth with no flaws. We fell when Satan took the form of a serpent and tempted Adam and Eve with the same evil that Satan himself had embraced when he fell from Heaven, and that is the ultimate hubris, i.e. arrogantly desiring to become God. We have each replicated this sin in our own lives and that is why human nature is corrupt and we need to control people in power as well as come to see our own need for a Savior. As we have seen throughout history when people have power then aggrandize their power even more in a ever increasing desire for more power to dominate others. God offers us a way out of this ceaseless and futile striving if we would simply accept his offer of grace to reunite with him by the means of Jesus' atonement on the Cross. John von Neumann observed late in life as he turned to God, "If we accept God, then everything we have studied falls into place and makes perfect sense." Newton, Kepler, Boyle, Faraday, Maxwell all knew this truth as they practiced their science in perfect harmony with their realization that God created the universe and that we are capable of "thinking God's thoughts after him," as Kepler put it in scientifically studying the universe.
