Simon is brilliant! I only discovered him maybe 5 months ago, but it was a revelation. I'm so grateful he even exists. Not only is he ridiculously funny, but like you said....he's a truly enlightened fascinating human being. But...while I'm only halfway into this video...the audience seems pretty receptive and into it. They don't seem that cold to me. Also...I think miking an audience well is _hugely_ important to recorded stand up comedy. The sound of the audience is integral to really enjoying a stand up performance. Poorly miked stand up is _horrible_ to watch. Even if the audience was truly loving it in the moment....if all I hear is crickets after each joke...it's just _awkward_ as fuck lol.

He isn't a big deal in the UK. The thing most people will know him for is hosting a popular panel show called Nevermind the Buzzcocks, but that was over ten years ago, and he only worked on it for two or three years (the show has been around since the nineties). He's only come back into my consciousness because of his new Netflix special. A lot of people here will know who he is, but I doubt they'll recognise his work besides that one TV show.
