You're saying basically everything I've been saying and thinking for over a decade. I love seeing that I'm not the only one who saw Kobe this way. He's definitely top 3 in my book. To me, the most objective metric for judging player's greatness is looking at how many seasons a player A) was All-NBA 1st or 2nd team while B) being All-Defense, while C) being an All-Star (preferably a starter), and also D) while winning the NBA Championship. This means the player was in the top 2 at his position on BOTH Offense and Defense, was voted by fans/coaches as one of the top 2 stars at his position, while at the same time his individual ability translated to the highest level of team success in the same season, by winning the NBA title. There are only 2 players in history to have done this 5 times or more. Those are Kobe and MJ.

I LOVE the way you broke that down. And I agree totally with this take. Kobe is HIGHLY underrated. Kobe has 27 cumulative all league selections between all nba and all nba defense. Absurd. While going to seven finals, winning 5 and being top 4 in scoring (both regular season and playoffs). How is that resume not an easy top 3 all time?

No doubt. And Hakeem’s 1994 run is better than any of Kobe. BUT, I’m not looking at one title. Show me a run where you win multiple. Hakeem did and his run is second best ever to me behind this Kobe run. Had Hakeem not gotten Drexler for the 95 title that would be number one over this run by Kobe.

But not as impressive as Kobe's. Go back and look at that 2010-11 Mavs lineup. They had a way better team than LA had the year they won the title and a lot of the bench was starters on other NBA teams. Kobe didn't have that at all.

You forgot to mention Kobes shooting hand injury in the Celtics finals win. Initially, the diagnosis was Kobe could miss up to six weeks, but Kobe was having none of that, stating: “My current thinking is to give my finger some treatment and rest for a few days, and hope I can still continue to compete at a high level after that rest,” Bryant said. Man never complained. Never brought it up. Just went and kicked their asses after that. GOAT SHIT. Keep showing these youtube highlight reel kids real NBA. I never missed a game. They literally just watch highlights. Kobe was unbelievable. Prime Kobe would work prime mj, and Bird. The real 3 Goats. I wish we had a magical time machine just to see them play 21 in their primes. Im really liking Luka and Donavan though. Young boys bring me hope. Id love Ja to be here if he ever pulls his head out of his ass. Kid has the mentality on court and is a follower off court.

The funny thing about that title run is people forget that Kobe was at wits end with the office decisions the season before and the league knew Kobe couldn't contend with what he had. Kobe always had tough competition to overcome in the West and did his best work in the WCF destroying Duncan in 08, proved superior to Melo 2009, and torched Nash/Amare Suns draining every tough shot you can think of. Gasol was also 0-12 in the playoffs before arriving to the Lakers and installed the Mamba Mentality by 2009 outplaying Dwight in the Finals and also overcoming Boston's physicality. Had Pau came to the Lakers a year or two earlier, Kobe and Pau would have won more rings together The fact that the 2001 Lakers faced four 50+ win playoff teams in 2001 and nearly went undefeated gives them the strongest case for best team all-time.
@skap_attack

Had Kobe had ONE viable all star immediately following Shaq instead of squandering 3 years of his ABSOLUTE prime, he would have gotten to 6 rings, maaaaybe more. And as for 2001, I think they ARE the best team ever. Obviously they only won 50 some games and weren't even the one seed in the WEST. BUT, their ceiling showed in the playoffs. They played the second hardest playoff opponents EVER behind only the 95 Rockets. AND they posted the SECOND highest differential EVER, AND posted the BEST winning percentage EVER. Its because its the only time EVER the best two players on earth were on the same team.

LeBronze - 1.79 KOBE IS NOT EVEN RANKED IN THE TOP 250 ON THE ALL TIME LIST … Are we missing something here, because these are facts smh. Kobe Bryant was an Ok (not great) player and for people to have him in the conversation of the GOAT is mental illness at its finest, dude is so overrated that is comical, it’s really pathetic how people are delusional to facts. He was the favourite player for an entire generation growing up but I know enough to put it in proper context as an adult. He was a chucker with an impressive highlight reel because he took dumb shots that went in at an admittedly impressive clip ... But that doesn't justify it. He didn't make his teammates better, he wasn't good in the clutch (just UNAFRAID) and his defence is massively overstated. Kobe was benched his first 3 seasons, and he was old and injured in his last 3 seasons. not trynna make excuses but those definitely tank his overall career numbers. Also the argument for him needing O´Neal and Gasol applies to any superstar in the league. also to be even more fair, anyone playing with prime O´Neal is gonna be a Robin, O´Neal was one of the most dominant to ever play. Pau Gasol led both 09 and 10 finals in 4th quarter scoring. And even Lebronze James performed better against those teams than Kobe. In 2008, LeBronze took the Celtics to 7 games with an inferior team while Kobe (who was favored) lost in 6 vs the same team. .. Kobe is not clutch Elimination games Kobe: 22 ppg on 40% shooting Lebronze: 33 ppg on 48% shooting Kobe was ALWAYS been a "Poor man's Michael Jordan". He does everything worse except shoot 3's. And Jordan was EASILY a more clutch player and far better defender too. Yah, Kobe is a legend but he's definitely not in top 10. Probably not in top 20 for that matter. Kobe may be the greatest difficult shot maker which makes his highlight reel deceiving of how inefficient and overrated he is Kobe is basically Carmelo Anthony with rings. He wasn’t even the best player on his team for many years with him getting a bus ride on the SHAQ’s Laker teams. People that say he is Top 10 are non basketball fans or don’t know anything about basketball. Analytics don't lie. I'm actually not a fan of his style of play. He's not the fastest, nor did he jumped the highest, nor the smartest. He's not even an original, modeling his play after Jordan. He did however, have extraordinary grit, an unrelenting desire to win. His sheer will forced everyone around him to win. His work ethics was undeniable. Simply, he worked way harder than everyone else. I used to think he was a horrible teammate, and in most sense he was absolutely, but he did one crucial thing. He put the fear in you to do your absolutely best. So in a way too, he brought the best in his teammate. He won because he simply just wanted more than anyone else. Teaches us all something. RIP. Good vid, good discussion. Kobrick was a HOT shooter which fools everyone into thinking he was a great shooter. Kobrick and Dwayne Wade are the greatest HOT shooters of all time. Dwayne Wade is a much better shooter than Kobrick though. Also, Kobrick has made some incredibly difficult shots but he has also taken and missed the most ridiculously stupid difficult shots possible. Kobe shoot 41% in the finals? If you're only shooting 8 times a game that's not too bad but when you shoot 28 times that's when you're hurting the team. He was a arrogant cry baby that was extremely inefficient. Kobe Bryant is THE MOST overrated player in NBA history. Lakers were better when he didnt play.

The biggest difference is that when things fell short for Kobe, he blamed himself, not everyone and everything else like what people do now. When Kobe didn't win, he took it personally, trained even harder, and dug deeper. He and MJ had that in common. Basketball was his life and he was a true professional. #RIPBlackMamba

Dirk Nowitzki 2011 is the most impressive I’ve ever seen. Hakeem Olajuwon in 1994 is also hugely impressive, as is the asterisked Kawhi Leonard-led Raptors run in 2019. Boston’s 2022 group and Miami’s most recent Finals squad might have had the all-time claim had they prevailed over the Warriors and the nuggets, respectively. Instead, the Warriors capitalized on a cakewalk to the Finals, and Nikola Jokic has officially cemented himself as a Top 15 Player all-time. The 2013-14 Spurs were more of an ensemble, and made it look so easy, but should also deserve much credit for dismantling the quality of opponents that they did.

I think one’s opinion on Kobe is a litmus test for who a person is, and how their mind works. I've noticed only impressionable, anti-nuance, weak-minded conformists believe lebron is the GOAT. I EVEN believe to a certain degree that Jordan is held in such fantastically high esteem, that his career barely matches my expectations given what people say about him. The ERA and competition Kobe faced is the most underrated part of his story and his GOAT case. Kobe truly conquered the game of basketball in a fashion which out to remove all doubt about his position in history.

@@universityoffree I’m not saying he wouldn’t have got off. That’s where ppl lose the point being made. The numbers would not be equally as gaudy. I commented earlier. When it comes to goat debates all we can do is play with the stats to cover ground where guys didn’t play. But the facts are that Kobe is the only man we know for sure how his game translates across the 90s style of play until the style of the late 10s. There is visual evidence of Kobe bustin EVERYONES behind from MJ to Curry. Only he can claim that while everyone else we just have to use the numbers and adjust them to today but it’s not the same thing as actually seeing it happen. It’s strictly speculation no matter what stat we pull. That’s all I was getting at. I know what the retort will be so I won’t go back and forth on it. Again I agree MJ gets off but the numbers would be closer to the pack whether we like it or not.

The simple reason Lebron stans manufactured the phony Gasol/ Pippen savior narratives is they know Ray Allen and Kyrie saved Lebron. Especially Kyire who many feel deserved that finals MVP not Lebron.

Even in death kobe doesn't get the respect he deserved r.i.p. Thank you skap for the vid duration this man deserves. Kobe made the one mistake they made him pay for the rest of his career, Colorado. Pau Gasol was never the difference maker they claimed him to be, just the excuse they needed to give Kobe partial credit for a resume full of extra credit.

Love the channel. Would the 600 points that Jordan “didn’t” hit have something to do with the playoff format back when he was in his prime?
@JuanVazquez-zd7do
@JuanVazquez-zd7do 9 ай бұрын
Absolutely. In Jordan's first three peat, he played 17, 22, and 19 games with total points 529, 759 and 666. In his second three peat, he played 18, 19, and 21 games with his total points being 552, 590, and 680. Compared to the 3 seasons referenced in this video, Kobe played 21, 23, and 23 games and his total points being 633, 695, and 691. If you took the averages per game, Jordan averaged more in both his threepeats compared to Kobe. Specially, the first one.

While there is a difference in the number of games due to the format, the Bulls had a better playoff win percentage at 1st & 2nd 3peat, so the smaller number of games than Lakers was the main reason.

Yes it does but Kobe Scoring 600 Pts in 3 Straight Playoff Runs in a Slower Pace and Lower Scoring Era from a Numbers Standpoint is what makes it Standout. It’s not a Knock against MJ who is probably the Only Other Player that Could Do what Kobe Did. Both Lead the NBA Playoffs in Scoring for 3 Straight Years, ofc Jordan did it First but it shows how Underrated Kobe is.

The Lakers should have beaten Phoenix in '06. They had a 3-2 series lead and led game 6 by 3 with 10 seconds left. Phil Jackson opted NOT TO INTENTIALLY FOUL! Tim Thomas made a 3 tying the game and the Lakers lost game 6. The same thing occurred to the San Antonio Spurs in game 6 vs Miami in the 2013 finals. Popovich not only removed Tim Duncan from the game twice in the final minutes but also failed to deliberately foul twice!
@skap_attack

Also the Lakers gave up like 2-3 offensive rebounds on that final possession I believe in game 6 with a 3 point lead until the suns eventually hit the game tying 3. I also am pretty sure Kobe had 50 points that game.

@@skap_attack I think you're right! But they could have fouled preventing a game-tying 3. I've never understood that! Kobe did everything!

If Kwame Brown doesn't go for that Tim Thomas head fake, the Lakers eliminate the Suns. And who knows from there. 2013 is the biggest fluke in the history of bball. If that rebound doesn't bounce to Chris Bosh, no Ray Allen. If Kawhi makes a free throw, no Ray Allen. If Manu make a free throw, no Ray Allen. Luckiest ring ever.
