The relationship between the PGA and players is symbiotic in nature. The PGA has to realise that they're not the players over lords and the players have to realise the wealth and opportunity the PGA has given them. But the truth is this, the players have the right to decide their own career paths, end of story. The PGA Tour’s threats against players who wish to exercise their right to play other events is really unfortunate. It makes the PGA seem petty and mean-spirited. After all players are independent contractors. They are not employees. Moreover, there is room for more events. Those photos are the same as other proffesional sports leagues who own the property rights to game photos, videos, etc.....they are property of The PGA because it's their event. The problem with the new league is the format as much as the Saudi's. Golf has always been about 4 rounds and a cut. Golf fans like the cut. It makes the players perform immediately. I personally have zero issue with this, and I totally understand where they’re coming from. I think the PGA has handled this whole situation poorly, to be fair, but at the end of the day, who are we to judge what they feel is best for them? We all do the same thing in our own careers. And besides, I’m really looking forward to the new formats and think it’ll be a ton of fun to watch. Some network, like Fox, will likely wise up and sign an exclusive broadcasting deal in the near term…I’d put money on it. And once that’s done, the sponsors will ensure that they’re properly represented on both tours.

The Masters is run by Augusta National, not the PGA Tour The US Open is run by the USGA, not the PGA Tour The Open is run by the R&A, not the PGA Tour The PGA Championship is run by the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour. All signs point to these guys still being able to play in these Majors. The idea of a "World Golf Tour" has been around for a number of years now, and now it is coming to fruition. These guys have all had tremendous success on the PGA Tour and now they have an opportunity to make a boat load of money just to show up. Let the up and comers scrap it out on the PGA "mini" Tour now.

It seems to me that the PGA is being way too strict with not allowing guys to play in both tours. As long as they play the minimum number of events like the Europeans and others are required, I don't see why that should be a problem. If the LIV Series is successful, there will probably be more defections down the road. I don't think an all or nothing policy is beneficial for professional golf.

The same thing happened in cricket with the ipl. Big names stopped playing test cricket and 50 over for the country's for the bigger purse indian premier league. At the time it was frowned upon by many, once the dust settled it created more opportunities for all. I think it's an exciting time for golf as a whole and support the Liv. The problem is that they are playing in a low competitive atmosphere since there are no cuts and last place makes $120,000. I understand all of what these three said. Playing less golf for more money and being paid an appearance fee over their career is easy money and allows them to spend most of the year with their families or doing other non-golf activities. Dustin although very popular overall hasn't been playing that well of late and I think is struggling a bit against the young guns currently winning on the PGA tour. That said until a Jorden Spieth or Cam Smith or Justin Thomas etc... jumps to this tour I don't see a big issue. If that does begin to happen then the PGA might find themselves in much the same situation as the NCAA has found themselves. No longer ruling the roost and having to bend a little so they don't break.

DJ was player of year in 2020 (Masters win, 3 other victories, Fedex Cup), and in 2021, he went 5-0-0 as best player in the Ryder Cup. That's excellent, and relatively recent, and Johnson is a bigger draw than those others. The likelihood of Cam Smith (Australian) jumping is greater than Spieth or Thomas, IMO. However, all it will take is 10, 15 of the top 40 or 50 players to make a dent in the PGA Tour.

Once people start watching, more players will eventually come over and when young talents make their name through LIV, viewers won't be glued to the PGA tour. The new tour was offering disproportionate generational money to the PGA defectors. For some that were looking to max out, all other factors came up short. If you take a look at the list of LIV golfers, the stars are the ones with a descending trajectory on the PGA tour. Loyalty to the PGA tour, the one that provided them the opportunity to showcase their skills and make a very lucrative career for themselves, really was no better than a minor consideration. The LIV players would be wise to spend their new riches wisely since their runway for earnings down the road may be shorter than they think.

DJ is chasing money not history. However, everyone is free to do whatever they are pleased to do. So, DJ can not be criticized, specially, since he is planning to retire in few years as he has said many times. Kudos for him!.

These guys can still play at the Masters, The US Open, The Open and any non PGA tour venue which will be cool. I like the idea of players having a choice of which tournaments to play and not be beholding to any "tour".

PGA Championship is governed by PGA of America, not PGA Tour. Not sure how much Tour has influence on.

@@charlesshen4773 Yea I am not 100% clear what tournaments are controlled/sanctioned by the PGA Tour. Regardless, players should be able to play where ever they choose...more like independent contractors...but that is just my opinion.

Honestly, if a tour offers you at least $25M, $50M or more in fully guaranteed money, you're insane to turn it down. $25M alone is the equivalent of winning more than a dozen tournaments. That's life changing money. The LIV purses are way more than the PGA Tour's, too. As long as you have an opportunity to play in the major championships, the other PGA Tour sanctioned tournaments are pretty meaningless. Money talks, and bullshit walks.

I have no problem with people doing something for money BUT Graeme saying it was designed to be an add on but when you give people money so how would it be an add on? The logistics don’t add up. I respect Lee for saying he did it for the money. Nobody cares about trophies and legacy anymore. I just wish some would just say they about the money instead of giving pc answers

Every player who has joined is at the back end of their career; they are quite rightly cashing in. Smaller fields; bigger prize purses; they play for money so quite simply go with the money. Play a half a dozen times a year make more money in a few years than they have made in 15-20 years on the tour!
