It's fairly basic. If this new tour didn't have a signing bonus and paid the same prize money as the PGA tour, none of them would be there. It is all about the money. There's nothing wrong with that, but it seems that only Lee Westwood had the balls to admit it.

Joseph, the irony is that it’s the LIV who now are “giving the money” - Yeah, there always was “appearance” money for the very top echelon but it seems the sports-washing Saudi’s are simply buying these players’ loyalty with guaranteed money regardless of their performances or current standard of play.

@@carlfrye1566 it goes hand in hand though doesn't it.....without the golfers there's no pga tournaments!! Its the chicken and the egg scenario pga need players and players need a platform....all thats happened is another platform has come along for the players to play in but it has a more attractive business model. This is how is see it a restaurant isn't a restaurant without a chef, a garage isn't a garage without a mechanic, a hair salon isn't a hair salon without a barber, and a construction company can't build houses without a bricklayer the limiting factor is always the human being using the tool and a golfer is no different his clubs being his tools. The relationship between the PGA and players is symbiotic in nature. The PGA has to realise that they're not the players over lords and the players have to realise the wealth and opportunity the PGA has given them. But the truth is this, the players have the right to decide their own career paths, end of story. They're not contracted employees, they're basically a personal business and the PGA should remember that and accept progress.

The PGA Tour’s threats against players who wish to exercise their right to play other events is really unfortunate. It makes the PGA seem petty and mean-spirited. I think the PGA has handled this whole situation poorly, to be fair, but at the end of the day, who are we to judge what they feel is best for them? We all do the same thing in our own careers. And besides, I’m really looking forward to the new formats and think it’ll be a ton of fun to watch. Some network, like Fox, will likely wise up and sign an exclusive broadcasting deal in the near term…I’d put money on it. Gentlemen this has played out many many times and almost every major sports League NFL NHL soccer where competitor league has come along and died a slow death never reaching anywhere near its peak... I'm extremely saddened that we'll never see Dustin Johnson play on the tour again at least for the near future. be This new LIV only has a few tournaments so we won't be seeing the guys near as often as we would on the PGA tour. it's a joke they don't even have a TV contract!! I can't even turn on my damn TV and watch the tournament!! I have DirecTV and a huge 4K brand new curved TV. I'm not watching the tournament on a tiny phone that's about 2 inches wide. I know that's what some people like to do I don't understand it and never will. why you would want to watch on your little phone when you can watch it with your buddies on the television... and no I'm not hooking my phone up to my TV or whatever... "hold on guys Ive got to answer my 15th text message, sorry I got to pause it again.."😂 But that's not the point here, the point is agreeing with the original post and this is just doomed to fail! the Saudis are going to throw so much money at this and it's just going to be a slow death. 90% of the PGA Tour is never going to switch they are already making a boatload of money.

Dustin although very popular overall hasn't been playing that well of late and I think is struggling a bit against the young guns currently winning on the PGA tour. That said until a Jorden Spieth or Cam Smith or Justin Thomas etc... jumps to this tour I don't see a big issue. If that does begin to happen then the PGA might find themselves in much the same situation as the NCAA has found themselves. No longer ruling the roost and having to bend a little so they don't break.

DJ was player of year in 2020 (Masters win, 3 other victories, Fedex Cup), and in 2021, he went 5-0-0 as best player in the Ryder Cup. That's excellent, and relatively recent, and Johnson is a bigger draw than those others. The likelihood of Cam Smith (Australian) jumping is greater than Spieth or Thomas, IMO. However, all it will take is 10, 15 of the top 40 or 50 players to make a dent in the PGA Tour.

@@jamesanthony5681 I think so long as LIV Golf gets a Major TV deal in the US, it already will make a major dent in the PGA tour. Once people start watching, more players will eventually come over and when young talents make their name through LIV, viewers won't be glued to the PGA tour. At the end of the day, both will succeed, it just won't be a monopoly. So long as everyone can play in the Majors and the Ryder cup, Golf will benefit from this added interest i think.

The new tour was offering disproportionate generational money to the PGA defectors. For some that were looking to max out, all other factors came up short. If you take a look at the list of LIV golfers, the stars are the ones with a descending trajectory on the PGA tour. Loyalty to the PGA tour, the one that provided them the opportunity to showcase their skills and make a very lucrative career for themselves, really was no better than a minor consideration. The LIV players would be wise to spend their new riches wisely since their runway for earnings down the road may be shorter than they think.
