Rogue warrior's new video we did is a look at a typical saturday morning of creating content for youtube. This past saturday Lenny sly, Bob Kamka and Rod Demesa did a little spit balling on some aikido techniques that don't work and showed a little about how they do work. Aikido is a unique art that many people seem to think is worthless and for the sake of conversation in many respects these assumption's are correct. although Lenny sly of the rogue warriors training compound is dedicated to show how the techniques of aikido do actually work in many real life situations. In most real life or even life and death situations the art of aikido can be very effective. Most people seem to think that aikido will not work because they can stop the techniques from actually being applied. That couldn't be further from the truth. NO one one the street will ever know who is skilled in ANY martial art, so to be able to stop a skilled martial artist is completely ridiculous especially when the attacker would have no idea whats coming.

I met Lenny about 17 years ago. Honestly didn’t like him at first. We ended up being great friends in the few years following that after I got to know where he was coming from. My friend Lenny is all heart. Whether giving you the shirt of his back or applying his teachings. Years later after training with him through our previous teacher, I asked him to be my teacher. Best decision I’ve ever made. He had taken what I though I already knew and showed me a better path. Keep doing what you are doing my brother and teacher and I will be there right with you.

Hi there. Great videos. Thanks for standing so strong for the Aikido community, it's an absolute inspiration. Many of your videos, especially this one clarifies many misconceptions that others may have towards Aikido. With all respect, there was a part in the video you mentioned something a long the lines about it is important to understand the technique and how the body mechanic works before we use it a free flowing way. That was the highlight for me. Thank you.

I fell in love with aikido because of the movement. I fell out of love because of the impracticality. I go to a dojo to learn martial art. If I want to learn philosophy, I'll go to a library. One thing I'd point out is some simple footwork would counter many techniques. Also, if you could show your techniques in real time fighting I think this channel would skyrocket through the ceiling.

First let me pay my respect to Lenny for thinking outside the traditional Aikido box. He is trying to teach a system that works!! I think if Lenny incorporated some Judo trips while using Aikido throws, that would greatly increase some of the moves and make them easier to perform and more effective. I see where Judo and Aikido could compliment each other. I love the fact he teaches punches and strikes. I will say this, every cop in this country should know Aikido joint locks and restraining moves!!!!

As usual, great video and very valid points. By the way, I have tried your techniques of just going straight down rather than just projecting forward. Straight down was faster, easier to apply and took WAY less effort. It was even easier to feel ukes energy. I am loving your instruction!! Hopefully one day I can come visit and learn more. Looking forward to the next video!!

I love that you are showing that practice of any art had to come to a instantaneous action to the action done to you. To many times people see a demonstration and want to say this won't work or that won't work against some one. Sure if you are ready for a demo, but when a unplanned strike or grab happens the practitioner who had trained themselves to the point where their technique had become as thoughtless as breathing. They reacts without pause, you might not get a beautiful placed technique that looks like a demo but you will get a unplanned action that will save them and place hurt on a assailant.

Nice video, too many people see that technique demo and instantly jump to critique, but never understand the learning process from basic principles through to application... it's a long process, and what I've learned over the years is never to judge from initial impressions...well ok, anyone doing that no-contact shit gets judged instantly 🙂 To have an instructor who understands the full breadth of a technique is rare and good to see.

I have watched many videos from this channel, and Sensei Sly has been very good and convincing me how Aikido can be seriously good in real life. Also, This has been one of the funniest videos I have seen in a long time, and very blunt about the reality of situations. I would love to train Aikido, but I am very cautious with which dojo I decide to join since so many don't seem to put a real life aspect on the training in order to make it practical. I found a place that does Bushikan Aikido which seems to be the most practical I can find. Might have to check them out.

I love your videos Lenny. Read the book Atemi The Thunder and Lightening of Aikido by Walther G. Von Krenner the man puts a very good perspective on Aikido and how striking is a very real necessity in the art. It’s become a lost part of Aikido unfortunately and much of the arts technical aspects are simply not possible in real life without Atemi. It’s a awesome read and I think you’d love it brother.

Hello, Lenny. Nice video. I remember when on May on that Aikido at the leading Edge we're talking about Aikido application. I had a question about may be we need to modernize attacks to train against real strikes etc. And answer was - May be we should work against nuclear weapon. That answer was from Corky Quakenbush. I cany say that it was most stupid answer, that I could hear. I think the mission, which you, Lenny, have, is really important, but afraid that so many people, who go in for aikido can understand you. (( they're flying in clouds... And just don't want to see how reality is.. and it is very sad. ((
@mergsTM

Eugene, I agree. I saw that Leading Edge seminar too and I thought Corky was not only condescending and unhelpful to the discussion but he also was similarly dismissive of Roy Dean's input (and he's a BJJ guy, former Aikidoka, trying to help Aikido!). I feel that attitude, and another one of the panelists, is exactly what holds Aikido back from evolving into something more practical. Lenny Sly Sensei is onto something here!

Paul Vunak has done some pretty interesting videos himself on the exact topic you are addressing in this video. In reality the opposition maybe a much better fighter then you and if he’s prepared and takes off on you you may get thrown a beating but by using surprise, speed and violence of action you overwhelm the opponent and never actually give him the opportunity to get into a fight with you. I have had this conversation with too many people to count because the world of Combat Sports has a lot of people drinking the cool aid about “what works” and “what doesn’t” in a physical confrontation in a bar or on the street. The 2 situations couldn’t be any more different then a MMA match. It doesn’t matter how much bigger, stronger or more skilled your opponent maybe if you know what you are doing, aren’t afraid to apply it aggressively and seize the initiative a lot of techniques that get hated on can and do work especially when you follow them up immediately after using rapid strikes.

THE ROGUE WARRIORS - Where Warriors are FORGED I really enjoy your channel brother. I think what you are doing for the Aikido community is necessary and something that needed to happen. Too many Aikidoka that have reached Yudansha status have lost touch with how the art was ment to applied from a combative perspective which is entirely different then the art side. The founder of Aikido didn’t magically make up the art he synthesized it from Diato Ryu and other styles of traditional Jujutsu along with Kenjutsu, Yarijitsu and Jo jitsu. He didn’t favor form over function either. Aikido was ment to be a valid form of self preservation that bares in mind the welfare of the attacker meaning a use of force continuum. This bullshit modern day approach of peace and love with no damage is NOT what O’Sensei’s intent was for the art, it was MINIMAL DAMAGE meaning if I have to break your arm to stop you from stabbing me then that is merciful rather then the old Jujutsu approach of break/disarm then return the favor and stab uke in the nape severing his spine and killing him. It was a budo for a modern Japan and the world derived from a battlefield form. Aikido can and does work I don’t give a fuck what anyone says cause I’ve personally used it on non complaint people. It’s all in how you apply it. The dude on the street isn’t likely going to expect it and once you slap him across the face/neck or C strike him in the throat you can take his arm do whatever joint lock you like and slam the fuck out of him on the ground. It’s over before it starts.

@@SLYSCOMBATIVECONCEPTS13 very good and hit on a lot of points from the baby steps to kicking it up as you advance. Besides the rainbows and flowers crap I think the biggest problem in Aikido is that most people practice all the time as a beginner. ie leaving punch out,. From videos and the accounts of his students Ueshiba was brutal. Aikido was a system of pressure testing dangerous techniques at a realistic pace once the students could ,as you said, protect themselves . Thanks for helping to put clarity to misunderstandings in Aikido.

@pandabearlp
@pandabearlp 6 жыл бұрын
I am just an amateur, but I believe koshinage can work in certain situations. However, in traditional Aikido when the Uke grabs with Katate Dori (spelling?) the Nage extend his arm to create space to step in and apply koshinage. I would think that when you extend your arm out to create space...a more effective application would be Nodo tsukiage (spelling?), because the free arm comes up to the throat/face as a dstraction. Why not execute Nodo Tsukiage instead?

Awesome Sensei Lenny I completely agree with you. As a judo student in my youth I learnt traditional judo for a few years. I found some dojo techniques and postures weren't applicable in real world defense where there weren't any rules. I realized in order to be able to defend myself and SURVIVE in the dangerous chaotic world I had to think outside the square of traditional defensive thought patterns (No disrespect to my Judoka and Sensel.) and think more about my survival and not on whether what I did was pretty or met traditional norms.
