Its easy once you get started and could always reference his vidoes or baders to figure out anything you need , ive built and pulled my hawkeye twice now and there videos made it easy , now i can do it without needing to watch anything , its not as bad as anyone makes it out to be its just like any other 4 cylinder motor just with 2 heads just take your time and take pictures of everything so you know where things go

i just ordered some gsc s1s to replace the BC 280s i currently have. The people at GSC were extremely helpful and seemed especially knowledgeable about the ej platform. Can't wait to see how they perform.

When he said "Make sure the oil port lines up with the oil port.." that gave me ptsd flashbacks. First time rebuilding an ej25 and that was the one step I missed. Love the content though!

@@Smeedia just a nice fountain of 5w-40 spraying up near the dipstick. Shut it off and did the whole tear down process again. New gaskets and a lot of inspecting and it’s back in. Now just chasing a crank but no start issue, testing coil packs and spark plugs here soon

Question, and I know this may sound dumb to you, but when setting the cams into the heads, do they need to be sat down with a certain lobe facing up and/or down? Example: the left cam in this video the first two lobes are pointing 1:00 and the last two are pointing around 10:00. So MUST they be put in like that? I hope I explained that well enough for it to be understood 😅😅

After watching this rebuild, I now know why the direct fit Mishimoto Oil cooler kit wasn't so direct fit for a Australian EJ.The coolant return from the heat exchanger on US models comes off horizontally and mine goes vertically down beside the oil filter, and then back up again, had to grab a spacer to make it all work. Always learning, appreciate the content.

@@Smeedia if you have the down time take a gander. Single cam. The 251 is non avcs 253 is. Super simple to set up. Spark plugs angle upwards and are easier to replace... Lotta love on the amateur rallyx for the sohc engines. But they are pitiful on raw power output compared to like a honda K24 or a Mazda 2.3/2.5 block

If the car has sentimental value to you then yes. If not I'd say buy the STI instead. Resale value will be there and everything works as OEM. Nothing wrong with STI swapping a wrx but in the end it'll still sell for wrx prices later on if you ever plan to sell it. Speaking from experience on that one 😅

9/10 times I'll use OEM. On my 6 cylinder I use cosmetic because that's the only option. If the cars shooting to make some sauce then we will swap to fire locks. But for most cases oem works the best 🙌

OEM head gaskets are the move for the majority of builds. Unless you got a 500+ horsepower build planned, then consider going with another headgasket option.

@@tacticalslurpi9259 JE pro seal head gaskets if you don't want to use MLS OEM head gaskets. 0.039in thick should suit you fine. If you're getting your heads decked, then you may want to go a little thicker gasket.
