Comfy midnight Halloween feels. Snuggled up in my bed after a long night of trick or treating. This is the first night the heat is on, its getting colder. The clock is ticking rhythmically, but I can sleep in. It's only Saturday after all. A hanging coat in the doorway infront of my bed looks like a skinny dead man. Before I know its the witching hour. The clock has stopped ticking but the batteries shouldn't be out, why is it quiet? It must be because of daylight savings. Why can't I hear my breath? Why can't I hear my own whispers? Why has the hanging man's arms moving towards his neck? This is all terribly wrong. Why is the man moving but I can't? Why is he walking tow

I have nightmare disorder, (A rare mental condition) and this is exactly what my nightmares look like, sometimes even more disturbing. Thank you, David. Although you didn't intend for it, I can finally show other people what the condition looks like for me, so they can finally understand how difficult it is for me to live with, and why I have to miss out on certain events after a nightmare episode.
@BaaDumtssSsSS Жыл бұрын
Hii. I just found ur comment. Does suffering a nightmare disorder make u always have a nightmare when u sleep?
@TheRobo6 Жыл бұрын
Whatever dude
@DoomyGloomy Жыл бұрын
@@BaaDumtssSsSS Yes I take medication to suppress them as they're not just scary dreams, they're downright disturbing. I was told by my psychiatrist they come from trauma. It's not the same as the much more common condition called night terrors, as night terrors make you reenact the trauma in your sleep, (such as screaming, kicking, or fighting people while you're still asleep) Usually someone with night terrors will wake up and not remember anything. Nightmare disorder causes me to have extremely vivid dreams where my brain is creating hyper-realistic disturbing images about people, death, abuse, r*pe, and demonic-like things. Everything is so realistic that I can physically feel my environment. If I'm walking barefoot in a dream, I can physically feel the cold floor under my feet. If someone in my dream hurts me, I can physically feel all of the pain as if It's really happening. If I stopped taking my pill for it I'd go back to having a nightmare every single night with no breaks. Knowing that David Firth has created the Sock series that is intended and inspired to be dream-like in its story, (thus why some of the plot points are confusing and seem random) makes me really feel like I can relate to the content in it, as odd as that is, and how unintended it is by the creator. People never understand what I mean when I talk about the condition because they struggle to imagine how a bad dream could ruin my entire day to the degree it does, and I never feel like words can do justice to how disturbing my nightmares can be, but I showed some of them this video to give them an idea, and it actually helped them to understand. Although this isn't quite as disturbing as some of my nightmares can be, it's very similar and more than relevant enough for me to compare it.

This is disturbing, unsettling, morbid, uneasy, weird. And we are thankful to you mister David for providing us with such a fascinating piece of art. Not a "creative industry product for consumption" but a piece of art to reflect upon, admire and in some certain and weird sense even purely enjoy. Thank you for providing us with this shelter. I actually interpreted this video to be about hyper consumption. I know his videos have no overt meaning, but you could see it as a demonstration of addiction, and the cannibalizing of self that comes with willful degradation (or even reluctant). You could also look at it as the mass consumption that has led to things like the climate crisis and how we’d rather burn alive than confront the tiny window of horrors that is reality. Hoping that it, at least, gives us what we want to consume before we explode in our depravity. In the end he is imprisoned by the small window, or locked away in his own mind with it. Carol (who is also shutting away the reality outside of her, and Jeremy could be her drug) is also stuck in that prison and in the end the box overtakes both of them by revealing the black seas of infinity that surround them.

This felt like a surrealist take on sexuality and relationships in general. The protagonist encounters three (four?) women, with whom he has some sort of physical and sexual experience with. The mouth could possibly represent his need for sex as a prostitute or a fwb that requires no commitment. Craig could be a more long term relationship, but with a clear power dynamic that undermines the protagonist both physically and mentally, as she is very extreme. This ultimately leads to a messy break up that the protagonist experiences as her fault, but later realizes he probably played just as much a part in. His last encounter is him being emotionally scarred, or maybe matured (That would be debatable) to a point where his encounters with women, both emotionally and physically, feel like a meaningless task with little gain. There's also a clear gender narrative with Carol/Jeremy, and the fact that it takes place in a bathroom that you need a permit for. "Nothing out of the ordinary, so that's good".

The many struggles of the human mind to make sense of what is sees, feels and perceives - and the conditions the mind is put through by others who try to impose their normal. Well, science make sense and is, if not right, correct. If you refer to specifically moral quandaries then sure, there's no cut and dry answers, since that's simply a made-up concept. But when it comes to describing reality then there is according to all available evidence a correct and false narrative, even though we don't have the knowledge and capability certify the ultimately correct answer yet. So for the time being we'll have to be satisfied with refining our theories.
