🌴🌺 This felt amazing first thing in the morning. Our class got canceled this morning and I was so fortunate to find this video. 🙏🏼

Thanks for this series. Many of us get stiffer and move less with age. A Pilates reformer series also does similar movements/stretches which is what I do daily. I especially liked the figure 8’s, though.

So this just looks like normal Pilates exercises and a bit of chair yoga. What makes it so special? I’m just curious, what makes them somatic exercises? I keep on getting ads domestic workouts but they just lol alike rebranded Pilates & yoga. Would you be able to explain what makes a somatic exercise a somatic exercises not yoga or Pilates exercise?

This is Miranda Esmonde-White's Essentrics workout. It's good, but people with arthritis, particularly in the spine, need to be extremely careful.

Can you tell us why?

@@MawerickMr As a professional somatic educator and yoga therapist, I would concur with OMO viewpoint. My rationale here is that while all these movements may be useful for someone with degenerative bone disorders (like arthritis), stretching a joint structure that is unstable already is contra-indicated. Slower motion, with space for interoception rather than flow, as demonstrated in my impression here, maybe incredibly useful.

Maybe I’ll try another day, but it was my first time and it moved waaaay too fast for me. A little more pause in between transitions would help me, js.
