She wasn't choosing to pick the housekeeper over her son, she believed him and asked him to explain how she did it. THERE WERE WITNESSES AND HE ADMITTED THAT HE DID IT! Dad is only mad because his son got embarrassed and it might look bad at him. That poor housekeeper.

I agree with the comment that had a wonderful suggestion. If the housekeeper quits, then make hubby and especially son clean the house. Maybe they’ll respect people more when they have to spend a weekend deep-cleaning the kitchen and bathroom. As for OP, I hope she does some self-reflection. She was so close to falling off the edge before she caught herself and started questioning the son. She needs to change her line of thinking more before it’s too little and too late. I hope that moment was an epiphany for her.

For real. His solution to awkward situations appears to be to just let it happen and look the other way. It’s funny that she says her son should move out when the one reconsidering the arrangement should be OP. (In all seriousness, she should have a serious talk to her fiancé before making any huge decisions.) Besides, I have my doubts there’s a way to leave a good first impression on a mom like that anyway despite what fiancé thinks.

There is no way OP should allow that woman to snoop through her home. Tell the bf if it happens again than "mom" will no longer be allowed in. It is OP's house and she let her bf move in, not his mother. But, OP could plant fake drugs in the house and see what happens when the police are called. It does sound to me like the bf is a momma's boy and no woman is good enough for mommy's little boy. Dump him and his mother.

The 16 yo "prankster" needs therapy. There is line which has been crossed long ago regarding what is a harmless prank and what is genuinely bullying and could be damaging. STORY 1: *NTA* The sun has a history of basically bullying the housekeeper, he decided to take it far by stealing his mothers jewelry and planting it in the house keepers post to get her fired for a “joke“. When husband got the news he blew up at his wife going “how dare you believe the help over my precious spawn? Are you mad woman?“ If the friend didn’t step up and tell the truth, that housekeeper would’ve wrongfully lost her job. STORY 2: *NTA* Karen Should have mind her own business. Notes of affirmation to give you a bit of a confidence boost is a good idea, but I guess she doesn’t like OP I took those as op being an egotist. his mom is not being protective she’s being overbearing, like God for bid if she found OP’s vibrator well she was “tidying up“ If she really is doing all of this to make sure her son is OK, does she have a little faith her son knows what he’s doing without her? STORY 3: *YTA* It is completely unrealistic to have a guest in your home who is a grown adult to follow the same exact rules as her children. If the kids really have a problem with it, be a parent and explain? The reason why he’s allowed to break those rules is because he’s an adult”

The guy is phishing for validation. He doesn't want the BIL there, but he can't say "no" because it would make him look like a heartless arse*. So enforcing asinine rules under the guise " think of the children" is the thing he settled on to show his distaste of his BIL staying. He was presented with logic that he knows he can't fight because it is true, and is now desperately trying to find any sort of logic to continue this path of passive aggression. The guy is being an arse* here in more then a few ways. Doesn't necessarily mean he is a bad father with asinine rules and expectations. It just means he is immature and needs to grow up a tad. Being his children are at most about 10-11 years old, none of his rules are over the top when applied to his children.

Story 1: Shame on the mother for suspecting the housekeeper when there's a history of the son doing this crap. I hope their housekeeper is looking for a new job/client so she can resign. I also hope she spreads the word about the family so they have a hard time finding a new housekeeper. In the meantime, she should keep her purse and any possessions she can't keep on herself locked in her car if she drives. I just started training as a housekeeper in a hotel chain and I really like the job despite it being hard work. Taking something from a guest is not worth the loss of my job and my freedom. I agree with others suggesting that the son should clean the house. Pay the housekeeper her usual rate and let her supervise the son while he cleans EVERYTHING. But the fiance's mother is SNOOPING THROUGH OP'S BELONGINGS AND THEIR FIANCE IS DEFENDING IT! I am super territorial over my belongings after over a decade of gaslighting where my belongings were not only snooped through, but moved around the house so they could tell me that I must have "forgot I moved it". I've had people read my self-affirming notes and mock them. I've had people read my diary and criticize me for the contents. It makes it extremely difficult to create a visual outlet for your private feelings and emotions when you know someone is going to look through your stuff, find it, and criticize it. Having someone constantly going through your belongings and reading your private notes just results in withdrawl and becoming overly territorial.

Story 2: OP's way of dealing with that extreme violation of privacy and boundaries, was probably the most light hearted way of dealing with the situation. While it is normal for a mom to be protective of her children, its not normal at all for a parent to snoop around in other peoples belongings, with such shameless entitlement and bad intentions. Shes looking for reasons why her son shouldn't move in. She didn't just find the notes, she took them to show her son. I wouldn't let her clean the house anymore, because it's extremely obvious that shes not doing it to be kind and helpful. SO isn't even entirely moved in yet and this is how MIL is already behaving? That's a huuuuuge red flag, and so is her son's defense of her actions.

S1: NTA while she initially believed the house keeper/cleaner she already knew of his pension for doing 'pranks', she believed the cleaning lady when she was confused about the jewelry being there. The friend came forward when she asked 'how' did he see her do it. I hope she at least gives some no strings attached bonus for everything he put the lady through. S2: NTA, if you don't want to keep finding them don't snoop. I made a file that would require someone to go digging that basically just calls out a person is snooping. S3: YTA, ya OP is treating him like a child. Note that when questioned he doesn't answer how "being on the phone all day" is dangerous, rather he deflects, OP is being an Ass and will soon get kicked if he doesn't shape up.

Story 3: I get the feeling BIL eats at weird times b/c OP told him that if he's going to eat with the family he has to follow the rules (no electronics, no music, must participate in family conversation), so he just removed himself from that situation. Also, if OP thinks staying out until 10pm is late, he's so out of touch with reality. When I was a teen I used to work until 11pm, and go out for tacos with cowokers after. Like, 10pm is pretty early if you're going out. Needing to be home by 8 is ridiculous, most parties/meet-ups don't start until 8 or 9 ffs.

Story 2: NTA I wouldn’t leave a note for the mom, I’d leave one for Al. "This is your 30 day written move out notice." I am an *intensely* private person because growing up my parents would go through every drawer, clothes pocket, school notebook, etc Every. Single. Weekend. I wasn’t a bad kid before then but I rebelled HARD after that.

1. What is that nonsense the husband is blathering about? I'd be more angry at him than son I think. If my son had a history of that, hell would rain down in my house. After the first incident w/the kid, if I were the housekeeper I'd be looking for new clients. 2. If I catch you snooping in my home, I'm calling you out on it and tell you to knock it off or you won't be welcome back. 3. YTA Brother is an adult and you are being ridiculous.

The note prank really wasn’t a prank. Op is just trying to set up a boundary that her future MIL is tramping all over. I love the notes and tbh I would escalate with the butt plugs and other sexual paraphernalia. Don’t forget the whips, fuzzy hand cuffs and pretty underwear, get different sizes just screw with her head. If OP’s fiancé can’t support Op then it may be time to rethink the relationship, mama boys have a really hard time cutting the umbilical cord and it will cause problems in the future because Op can’t compete with mama, she won’t win.
