Never said he is a fighter I have about 300 ring fight rounds. This man is a master in the speed bag and that’s obvious. Making a derogatory comment that the bag has no use in a fight is irrelevant. It’s like saying a Master rope jumper doesn’t have relevance. For sure this mans hands are like hammers, he keeps his hands up all the time, he has demonstrated upper body strength to punch continuously for 10 minutes with fast hands. He’s also a teacher. He uses hands, elbows and has perfect timing. I’d suggest you try it before you attempt to lower this mans astonishing speed bag accomplishments. Speed bagging at this level is a huge help. I’m a Kenpo open karate fighter sensei Dan black belt with over 70 medals and trophies and awards including induction into hall of honors and hall of fame award recipient. Speed bagging is difficult to attain a high level of proficiency in and yields devastating power and accuracy in the ring. :)

@aaronracine ...My first suggestion would be to view this as "Control Bag" and not a "Speed Bag". You must get control first by going S-L-O-W at first, and do NOT try to go fast. Speed will come automatically as you gain control. Normally you hit the bag from the front with 3 rebounds inbetween punches. You can also use 5 rebounds inbetween to go a bit slower. Your EARS are the guide on Speed Bag, not your eyes, which are always to late. Go slow and be patient. Try THE SPEED BAG BIBLE

That is a "customized" ballhook. I took the metal ball and hook from an old Everlast Ballhook swivel, and put it inside a plastic housing of a new Everlast plastic ball hook swivel. Basically, I took out the plastic ball and replaced it with the older style metal ball. The plastic housing reduces the loud metal "chanking" sound of the older metal housing. Works great and I like it.

A 9x6 Bag does offer great control and good speed, but I normally use an 8x5 myself. I used the larger 9x6 in this video because it's a bit slower and lets people see what I am doing a bit better. This combination happens very fast and you can't really see the different movements on an 8x5.

@xXFocusRecord That depends on many things, but if you might consider the need to hit a moving target close to your face REPETITIVELY with fists and elbows, as self defense, than it would translate very well. Of course the human head will not be attached to a rebound board, but the speed bag can help develop repetively punching speed and power to a target very close to your face, while facing front. Not the best fighting stance. It can also help your hands block incoming fists. JMO

Great to look at , unless you hit on the third bounce and use it to practice hooks and finishes it's no use in the ring. Still like frizz bee throwing it's a whole lot of fun. Its very well explained in fairness.

How important is it to have the speed bag at a certain height?

If you want to hit it efficiently from ALL sides...very important. Many people put the bag up way to high to effectively do what I'm doing because it makes the fist motions be more of an "Up-Down" motion, like a half-moon, instead of directly into the bag. It his hard to pass the fist "directly thru the bag " to another side if the fist is moving downward into the belly, or hitting up above the belly by the laces.

wow man, i'm shocked that it took me about 30 speed bag videos to get to this one... u really give amazing tips! i'm just getting started on the speed bag, got myself an everlast speedbag kit, and it has the plastic ball swivel you're using there; however, i think it's giving me issues because of the game it has up and down if i punch it at the wrong height... should I move to a pro swivel? what are your advices on this topic? I see you using the plastic ball and I'm shocked!

He is very good. Very good, but just because he is so good on the speed bag doesn't mean he'd be good in the ring. Once you get the hang of it, the speed bag is very easy. It gets so easy that it'll be one of those things that you wonder how you once didn't know how to do, like riding a bike, or driving a stick shift.
