Kenya has got a lot to learn from the crisis of Ghana. No to comprehensive free education. No to unjustifiable tax exemptions and subsidies. No to excessive domestic borrowing. No to excessive borrowing generally. No to wasteful and unnecessary mega projects which we cannot fund organically. No to the poor culture of domestic savings. No to corruption and nepotism. It's looks like Ruto is very much on the right track. He did his homework.
@OscarWriter

I doubt if Ruto did his homework. His government is full of tribalism and excessive borrowing.
@Kangema
@Kangema Жыл бұрын
@@OscarWriter In the current circumstances of a low tax base and a chocking inherited public debt, no sane person would expect any government to do without any borrowing. We are talking about reducing the rate of borrowing until the public debt burden will be put under control, and reconsidering the purpose and priorities of borrowing. Tribalism is the surname of all Kenyans. We are all as guilty as charged. Change must start with you.
@Kittygacha_playz

Tax exemptions are not kenyas problem. Neither is taxes per se'. The problem in Kenya is only one-the government itself. Until the uchafu in government, the rot, the corruption and corruption friendly systems are removed, we are going nowhere.

These are the measures that are being taken today. He cites a tax to GDP ratio of 15.6% against 22% for neighbors. Kenya's is at 13.2% - too low.
@Kangema
@Kangema Жыл бұрын
@@samuelnjoroge9964 True. Comparatively, Kenya is not in the worst position; not even when compared to it's immediate neighbours. In fact, the Ruto government has taken the right measures to begin addressing the problems, though bearing in mind that even Rome was not built in one day. The major problem with Ruto's government is allowing their detractors and enemies to act as the government spokesmen, manipulating and distorting all facts to suit their selfish political interests. Ruto must appoint, on a full-time basis, a seasoned and well informed professional to serve as "government spokesperson", including speaking for cabinet, and another as "spokesperson" for the ruling coalition/party. These people should not be politicians, nor your typical politicians. These people must be in the media almost daily, in order to eliminate the vacuum, which the opportunists have conviniently exploited so far. This will bring clarity and harmony in the government communication. Can you imagine that as of now the populace depends on Raila and his ilk for explanations as to what the government policies are and what they are intended to achieve!

One thing we all failed to realise is that this guy is an opposition MP in Ghana. Just like it is typical of our own opposition MPs in Kenya, this guy could easily lead us all into the temptation of believing that his truth is the only truth there is in Ghana. "The government does not do anything right, and all the problems of Ghana have started with the President" who defeated them at elections. Imagine how absurd it would be if Sifuna had all the floor to himself alone, to talk about Ruto's government, in a Ghanaian studio! This guy's party was in power before. How was the situation then, and which government truly put Ghana in the debt trap it currently finds itself in? How I wish this news platform could one day bring in an MP of the ruling party in order for us to hear from the other side of the coin, for a balanced story. Perhaps, it's only then that facts will be distinguishable from the chuff and lies.
@calvoh9715
@calvoh9715 Жыл бұрын
how was Ghana in opposition regime compared to now? how was cedes against the dollar compared to now? Ruto is going to chase away investors with his tax regime. more people will be out of employment, cost of goods will keep rising with his fuel taxes and high cost of power, more inflation is bound to happen. instead of him reducing taxes, giving businesses room to thrive via incentives and stimulus, and let the economy grow itself, create more jobs, while on the other side he cuts on expenditures the way they are blowing billions in statehouse everyday and employing politicians on useless positions and huge salaries. He is clueless.

Mainly due to hiw they mismanaged the economy under John Mahama, the former president of Ghana. Ignore his ranting. If kennyans or wanjiku want to learn about Ghanas economy, let them talk to the right people. What this dishonorable is doing is pure politics and nothing else.
