Steve, I know you do the NHL worst plays of the week, but I think you need to give an honorable mention to the college hockey's CCHA championship game between Minnesota State and Bemidji State. The game went into overtime tied at 1. About 4 minutes in, Minnesota State "scored", and being a championship game, pandemonium ensued. The trophy was presented, and everyone thought the game was over. The only problem with that happy ending was the review that lasted roughly an hour. Then it was determined that the net was off prior to the "goal". The game had to be restarted. Minnesota State eventually did win, but talk about a DANGIT.

I think Markstrom had the right idea.. in that 3 on 3 situation, the goalie can create many opportunities. If he had been able to throw the puck up as he intended, it could have been a hat pick. Risk reward situation.. but yeah, it's pretty bad when it doesn't work...

About the Fleury Dang-it: A goalie losing any piece of equipment other than the helmet doesn't result in the play being blown dead. Goalies have had to play without gloves, blockers, sticks, and skate blades, but only helmets will lead to a stoppage of play. Chicago chose not to challenge it, because technically this wasn't goaltender interference. Fleury was able to play his position at the time the goal was scored, since it was about 10 seconds between when he lost his glove and when the goal was scored. All that said, it was normal interference, and the play should've been blown dead with Wheeler going to the box for a 2-minute penalty, but the refs just didn't call it. That's a dang-it

That Sabres Calgary game was the Sabres first shutout since 10/25/19, it had been 174 games without one. Also apparently the only 1-0 OT win by the Sabres in regular season franchise history, & 2nd overall, the other was the 4 OT game where Hasek made like 70 saves in the playoffs
@ryanahr22672 жыл бұрын
I did not know about the latter two stats, but I would not have guessed the first one. I knew my boys were bad but I didn't realize that their last shutout was that far back. All the more reason to have actual hope for this young core, I think. I'm not in a hurry to get there this time like I was with the Eichel build, and it helps that the Sabres are playing hockey that's actually watchable this time even if isn't great still.

I've had Markstom all year in one of my fantasy leagues as well as Lindholm and Johnny Hockey and they've all combined to make my team gross levels of good, so I thoroughly expected the Flames to run circles around them. Tokarski and Anderson have been far better this year than we had any right to expect, but even so that was super human on Tokarski's part. That game winner, however, was something else. I honestly feel bad for Markstrom. He had the same body language that Nedeljkovic did when he slapped that own goal in on his own five hole: "Should I just hang it up and go hide in the mountains for a few years?"

I wasn't at the game, but I'm willing to give Markstrom a pass. Given the situation, I don't know any goalie that wouldn't try and play that. If Markstrom doesn't whiff on the pass, Gaudreau has a breakaway at the other end and it's a potential Hat Pick candidate for the Flames (or a Dang It for the Sabres). It was a tight game, where both goalies were in top form, that ended in a Dang It for one of them. At the end of it, it's one point. Flames are still sitting comfortably on top of the Pacific Division. No point in losing your mind over one game against a non-conference rival. That's my opinion, anyway.
