Finally! A video that goes in depth with how to fix an immature squat. Love the fact that he pointed out to drive the hips forward as your knees go out. Finally some sound direction on how to improve my squat and not fall backward while trying to lift my torso! Someone give this guy a raise.

This is the exact issue I'm having w/ my squats! Thanks so much for this video!

Great coaching, Pat! His squat improved dramatically. I have/had the same problem with my chest going low. Holding onto the pole/staircase really helped me a lot.

Good video... Part of the problem of not being able to lift his chest is that he was lifting his arms in internal rotation the thoughout all the examples, until 7 min in when you gave him a plate to hold (External rotation). At 10:04 y the second example is definatly improved, however thumbs should be pointed up and chin should be tucked to avoid cervical overextension.

Hi Pat, not sure if you see the comments section but if at all you do just a quick question for you, i had been doing what you recommend on this video and i i'm very happy with the result, in fact thrilled to see such a form especially with a 10kg plate and 5kg plate, but the moment i switch to a Barbell squat i once again start leaning forward. what can i do to prevent that ? and also i tend to have lower back arch, which is an inward curve if you know what i mean, but i'm not sure if it's a good thing although i dont feel the strain on the lower back or anywhere else .

with width of feet. I feel comfortable in the initial position with a base that is more distal than a hip patch. Is this a mistake?

Let the person do a few warm-up squats and stretches first before assessing their current level. That's like telling a basketball player to shoot one basket then start talking to them about form. No you let them warm-up for a while and get in their groove a bit before jumping in and saying what they should change.

Those ankles aren't flexible enough for squatting that low.
@GoatNinja10 жыл бұрын
When he was put on the pole and forced into a deeper inner thigh stretch his knees traveled forward naturally (and he said OW! due to the stretch in the inner thigh)... the main limitation is inner thigh flexibility

GoatNinja I have the exact same problem. I have been working on my squat for 3 years now. My hips are a snare drum. I squat and I lean way forward. I videod myself and my butt is WAY behind my heels/center of gravity. The pole drill really stretches it. But you are saying is an adductor issue more than a abductor issue? And is it flixibilty or strength in the areas?
