How?
@artificialaceattorney6822 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewsimpson5621 For starters, they don't get into "So you have (X) for me?" Yes, sir I do," but immediately talk about the movie. They also talk about various story elements out of order rather than basically providing a rough summary of the story. The two characters don't have their distinct voices and aren't quite as insane. For example, the Screenwriter had the more sensible idea of killing off Leia and got overruled by the Producer, rather than the Producer accepting almost everything the Screenwriter proposed.

I really love this series. The new pitch meetings are always a joy and Ryan’s love of film is always obvious which is of course why these sketches are so uplifting even when he’s kicking the clichés about in ways they thoroughly deserve. Only a really knowledgeable lover of film could do something like this. Which is why visiting older sketches and hearing the thinking behind them is so enjoyable. It’s a real work of art and extremely clever.

@@rcdune7132it’s literally the best SW movie and you’re just genuinely too dumb to understand why. I get it, you’re a sheep and can’t form your own opinions. But if you actually understand SW lore, the characters and don’t have the emotional capacity of a plank of wood, you know TLJ is the best SW movie.
@TheSCPStudio Жыл бұрын
@@stevenschultz9637don’t even understand what you mean by ‘space gas’. Leia Poppins? You mean basic physics? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that scene. It actually fits perfectly. Leia was never a force user but she did practice. In space, all it takes is a small amount of force to move something so a little nudge was all she needed. Random side quests? You mean the backup mission for trying to secure the Alliance and Rey’s safety? You can’t be serious when you say that’s a ‘random side quest’. What’s wrong with the casino slaves? It’s a direct parallel to the world we live in. The rich prosper and the poor work for them. And considering slavery is a big part of the SW universe, it fits the lore of the series. Luke’s Ending was the only time we ever see a Jedi actually perform Jedi duties. He addresses a conflict but doesn’t engage in any violence that causes harm to anyone but himself (not even the bad guys), which allows the good guys time to escape. It’s a beautiful ending to Luke. And his character fits perfectly in the narrative. Dude had time to learn about how the Jedi failed. He saw how his own father was a monster because of them. He saw how Kylo was easily manipulated. Every attempt he made at rebuilding failed. Ofc he would be a jaded hermit. Especially given how the First Order was still going strong and Luke was getting old. I don’t know man, most of this seems like personal complaints from you. Which is fine, of course, but take responsibility for having absolutely no brain in that head.
@stevenschultz9637 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSCPStudio Space gas - in this, the 8th movie of a series, (on top of Rogue One and the TV shows) is the first mention of anyone even having concern that they could run out of gas. It is objectively a weird time in the world building to be making a big deal about it. On top of the preposterous notion that the Resistance was going the Goldilocks speed to keep away from the First Order, it was a big pill to swallow. These are all straws, which one broke the camel's back is hard to say. Here are some more. The movie opened with cringe dialogue between Poe and Hux (it felt like they were heavily trying to push some Iron Man banter into Star Wars, and it didn't work), and included a bombing run scene with the most perplexingly designed space bombers in Star Wars. (the ones that drop bombs down even though there is no gravity in space) Y-Wing bombers had existed for decades. Don't forget Leia's post death (I saw post death because everyone else in the room exploded, we call this plot armor) space leap back onto the ship, only to be in a coma for most of the rest of the movie and doing nothing to add to the plot. (Truly a missed opportunity for Leia's exit from the series as Carrie tragically died) Star Wars is a work of science fiction, with a literal magic Force. It is not a parallel to our universe. What are you on? If you don't like Star Wars or Luke Skywalker that's fine, but don't act like this movie was made for fans of Star Wars. I did lol at "personal complaints" though, that was pretty good 😂 I do want to point out that you used the word "fits" twice, which is what gave away that you've probably never seen a Star Wars movie, maybe work on that for next time you're trying to troll fans.

I'd want to jump in here, hope you don't mind. As someone with experience with this, when my film critic brain is working at full capacity I am able to enjoy movies so much more. Mine too. The truth is that film is so dire the Pitch Meeting could have been twice as long and still not encompassed all the absurdities. The 'momma' joke at the beginning? Poe disobeying orders and getting thousands of his fellow Resistance members killed? And the only getting a slap on the wrist? Rey being able to swim despite spending her whole life on a desert world? Luke, the man who redeemed his evil father, attempting to murder his nephew because of a vision? The slow motion space chase that could have been ended in minutes if only the First Order, who were not short of fuel, sent some of their ships to light speed and then returned in front of and around the Resistance ships? The ease with which Finn and Rose managed to slip away to Canto Bight but nobody thought to evacuate others in this way? The grand Resistance plan to just try and hold on long enough to reach an old abandoned Rebel Alliance base in the hope their might be a transmitter to use to call for help? Surely Finn and Rose could have done that on their way to Canto Bight? The 'Holdo manoeuver' and the fact that nobody had ever thought to try it against the Death Star instead of relying on a strategy of making a "one in a million" shot by firing a torpedo down an exhaust port less than 2 metres wide? Luke being able to project himself hundreds of light years across space. The fact the whole premise of the first film was the two sides trying to find the map to locate Luke, half of which was stored in R2-D2, but when he was found he said he'd gone to hide away and die - so why leave the map behind in the first place?! It must have been hard for Ryan to choose which of so many failings to lampoon.

The Last Jedi: the movie that made me embarrassed to be a Star Wars fan, in font of my nephews. Thanks Rian Johnson, for the mean-spirited pie in the face to all devoted Star Wars fans. You sure showed us! Or, er, subverted our expectations.
@Paulafan5 Жыл бұрын
Who greenlit that script? Rian Johnson can't make a huge movie without someone okaying it. Someone at the top thought it was a good idea.

Two questions: If a movie is critically and commercially well received does that make it more difficult to write a pitch meeting for it? When deciding to do a pitch meeting for a random movie from the past, what helps you to decide what movie to do?

He made one for "A Quiet Place" which one - as far as I remember - a well received movie, but I sighted every 5 minutes or so because it made no sense and Ryan pointed out the mistakes very well. Talking about "it", "It (2017)" is the same.

It boggles the mind that they ruined Star Wars this much.

Star Wars had two and a half good movies in TOS. It has just been formula movie pablum ever since. There is no story arc. They just make up each new episode on the fly. They are advertising to sell merch.

Here's a question for a future "Revisited" episode: Have you ever thought about having Brandon and/ or Sam cameo on an episode of Pitch Meeting? I love your MMS stuff and I feel like if you picked the right movie it could be hilarious. I love the show and hope the best for you!

Ryan - maybe you didn't care for the Pitch Meetings on individual actors, but the ones on entertainment news, like Spiderman leaving the MCU, were gold! I can't believe you haven't done a Pitch Meeting on the writers' strike that's going on now (or maybe you're waiting until after it resolves).

“Have her fly back like Mary Poppins” has become part of popular culture - have met so many people who start laughing when you say that and they know it from here. Since Disney was working on a Mary Poppins movie at the same time as Last Jedi, one wonders if making Leah fly like Mary Poppins was actually a bizarre attempt at cross-promotion.

Meant this more of a question about writing, & if older/lesser known films are maybe more risky for algorithm, or difficult just cos there's less awareness in modern media. Didn't want to be too leading with it.
