I think Disney's problem with star wars, and with Marvel as well actually, is that they take the audience of these acquired brands for granted. They assume that the audience will be there no matter what, and will greatly consume whatever the corporation throws in front of them. No one makes the attempt to get inside the head of the fans, but that's because a lot of the people making the decisions at the top levels think they know better than the fans, and consciously work at turning these brands into something else.

They are missing the obvious way to do a Star Wars hotel. They should have just made a Naboo themed hotel and area. Sort of like how the Port Orleans where it's a whole outdoor town.. but themed to Naboo. The ship looks neat in concept but it's also going to be so forced. I mean think about it you are going to stand in a line to get to the chance to push the hyperdrive. Then the rest of the time you have an itinerary that you have to follow. You don't get to decide where you get to go and when. During the day they buss you to the park to go on the star wars rides then bus you back. At the very least they should have made a custom monorail to take you to the park ie sort of like how the Train at Universal Studios work. If they are going all in on the imerrsiveness then go all in. What's going to happen 1 to 2 years after this opens after they stop gettng people to pay $5000 a night they will open it up as a regular hotel

Or Cloud City if you want to go the luxury route only. Then you could recreate Luke's fight with Vader and the aftermath in the bowels of the city if you wanted. And make out with your sister there as well. It's baffling how Disney is being so blatantly oblivious and obvious in their insistence on creating their own brand new thing that no one has ever seen before in the Star Wars films or TV shows so they have no emotional attachment to it whatsoever. While setting everything only within their sequel timeline. And completely disregarding pretty much everything and anything that references the OT or prequels that people have wanted to experience in real life for decades Besides all of that though, the entire concept is fundamentally flawed from the beginning. Because when people think of Star Wars, they think of gritty dangerous adventure. Not excess, leisure, and luxury. But none of that is even mentioning the fact that all of this is only for rich people which is biggest fukt capper of them all. Whoever came up with this concept couldn't have ever seen Star Wars because they have no idea what it is on any level whatsoever.

the starwars universe is used and lived in, that mean stains, shades, details and age. 1. If you have a perfectly white painted wall and put a logo on it that doesn´t make it starwars, even if you round the corners. And most important dont make it look plastic! 2. A nother big problem might also be that unlike a movie set that is used for one week during shooting operated by 10 actors those sets would start falling appart quickly when toyed around by 100 people per day for years to come. 3. This looks like what happens if you give the task of set-designers and artists to architects and interior decorators. It is not the same. 4. Last but not least the promotion actors. Holy shit! If you want to sell starwars (for 4000$) the actors shouldn´t behave like small child nicolodeon entertainers or Teleshopping advertisers. Americans might be more used to this but as european i feel the urge to slam the door in front of their face.

You know, you make a good point with the, "don't make it plastic" thing. When I think about it, Star Wars ships have always been very metallic, at least in the movies. Plastic-looking pieces seem rare, as opposed to more classic sci-fi media which seem to incorporate plastic much more liberally. So seeing a bunch of control panels covered in plastic buttons violates the pre-established material continuity. Fascinating! I was trying to put my finger on exactly what I disliked about it, and I definitely think that's it.

@@marcomarterer7232 Ohhhh okay. Thanks so much for the expert information! Considering that I'm sure Disney also made a 3d visualization for this project, I think that must mean it wasn't some last-minute cost cutting decision. It was definitely planned from the start to use these materials, which tells me that none of the people involved in the modeling process were actually members of the Lucasfilm team that did that job for ships in the movies. This may be a communication issue through and through. I will say that I don't think there's much they could have safely done to lower the lighting level considering that crowds of people are meant to be moving in and out of those places frequently, so I think that they would have to make up that deficit with consistency of material. Which, uh, clearly has not happened.

A pretty core part of the Star Wars aesthetic is that it's actually quite technologically backwards. It's world war two, just with rayguns and spaceships. Fighter pilots can the skies not with sensors but their own eyes, Admirals look over the battle from the towering bridges of their flagships, and every weapon from the mightiest capital turret to the fastest firing blaster is laid on target by hand. Controls are always analog levers and dials, and displays are blinking lights and gauges. So, baring all that in mind, what's the main aesthetic choice for GSC? If you guessed "High tech digital screens" you'd be right, though I have no idea how both you and they arrived at that idea.

@@josephbrown9685 Yes, I'm aware you don't like the sequels. That's obviously what motivated your OP in the first place. But my point is that the vast majority of the Disney Star Wars output has been favorably received by the fans, so the narrative that Disney has just botched Star Wars overall doesn't fit the reality. The sequel trilogy was rushed and had a lot of problems, but Star Wars on TV has not suffered the same problem. There is clearly a plan there that is being properly executed. It's not "Disney" that's the problem. It was how the sequel films were managed when they first entered production. But those pitfalls seem to have been recognized and are being avoided moving forward. This issue with Galaxy's Edge falls on Disney Parks, not Lucasfilm
@ericepperson84092 жыл бұрын
Disney has been extremely split on how they have treated Star Wars. The Sequel movies were awful and suffered from not having a coherent plot carry thru any 1 movie and all 3. The animated and live action stuff though is fantastic. Clone Wars is the only thing that saves the narrative of the prequels. Rebels had a rocky start, but finished brilliantly. If the rest of the live action stuff is in the neighborhood of The Mandalorian, then it will be a great addition to the Universe's Narrative. GE being set so squarely in the sequel is a misstep, but its still a fun experience for what it is. We don't build Disney Park trips around it. Disney needs to get Filoni and Favreau's team much more involved in their SW projects all the way through the process.
