The Non-Canon Expert looks at Yoda's attempt to redeem his former Padawan Dooku and turn him back to the light in the final months of the Clone Wars, explaining how this attempt ultimately failed and Yoda's thoughts about Dooku's path with the dark side going forward.

No as usual Anakin is at fault had he not intervened Dooku could have be redeemed and the Jedi taught how to fully embrace the force. Anakin is directly and indirectly responsible for far worse evil then Dooku.Unlike Dooku his goals weren’t noble in the least, Dooku was capable of using the dark side without being ruled by it and for the rights reasons.Were as Anakin entirely centered around his entitled attitude towards breaking one of the parts of the code that actually made sense and saving padame. He thought with his dick for his entire career and got it burned off poetic justice if you ask me.

Also Dooku had to suffer far worse then Anakin for decades and took 100’s of tragedies and ultimately the lose of Qui-Gon for him to leave and even then he didn’t set out to kill kids right off the bat or even at the end.

@Filthy acts at a reasonable price I agree, I also think he is the best in lightsaber combat, and that was the point anyway. I think George created him to be the best duelist in all movies, the fact that he lost to Anakin doesn’t mean he is weak or not capable it’s just that we didn’t see enough of Dooku and Anakin (in live action terms). If we had, I think more people would understand that Dooku is far more powerful than he looks, he is a true Sith Lord. The point of Anakin beating Dooku was to show that he had become more powerful than anyone and no one seemed to noticed except Palpatine. But Dooku didn’t expect that Anakin could reach those levels. I think if Dooku had prepared for that amount of power from Anakin (Or if he wanted it to be a death battle since the start), Dooku would have known how to start the duel properly, using more powerful strikes and exploiting Anakin’s weaknesses without giving himself too much like he did. I think Dooku’s full power is something we didn’t get to see specially in Episode 3. To me Dooku was better than Sidious in terms of lightsaber combat. He used the dark side not to become consumed but to harness and enhance his dueling skills and strength in the force.

I really like explorations of Dooku and Mauls characters since we learned so little about their background in the films. Listening to Dooku: Jedi Lost made me appreciate his path through the Jedi and his pursuit of peace in the Galaxy.

One of my absolute favorite novels. It's not necessarily the best written one, but I just love the relationship between Yoda and Dooku in it. They had such a deep bond, and there were some really sweet moments in the flashback portions of Dark Rendezvous. Such a unexpected read, to be honest. It treated Yoda and Dooku with an enormous amount of respect, which I greatly appreciate. Crazy to imagine how the Clone Wars would have changed if Yoda had succeeded

That does lead me to wonder what would have happened if such a scenario played out. Surely Dooku would inform the council about Sidious' plot, but who would believe him? The Senate wouldn't, nor would the GAR and perhaps most importantly of all: Anakin wouldn't. Would Dooku's defection bring Palpatine's scheming to an end? ... or would it merely _accelerate_ it? Having the Jedi take the side of what the Republic perceived as an enemy would certainly play right into Palpatine's hands.

Palpatine suggesting to Yoda the possibility of redeeming and rehabilitating Dooku is interesting, because it either means he was already trying to get his inside man in the council for executing Order 66, or he was planning on swapping for Anakin earlier, convinced that Vader would be so powerful that Dooku being truly redeemed wouldn't matter to him... but if the infiltrating the temple with Dooku plan backfired and he was actually redeemed, Dooku would reveal Palpatine's identity, so it's interesting that he took the risk of suggesting this anyway...

That is a very interesting interpretation. This was my favorite Legends novel, dark rendezvous. My interpretation during that encounter with Dooku and Yoda was Yoda turned to the dark side merely to prove a point to Dooku. It was also because of Dooku's jealousy of Anakin Skywalker that he lashed out at Yoda when he learned Anakin was there. Even though Yoda did not call for him to be there. If memory serves, Palpatine alerted Kenobi and Anakin that Yoda went to Vjun. I think Palpatine was very aware of Dooku's jealousy towards Skywalker. I think he also sensed that it was entirely possible that Dooku could go back to the light if given the chance to Yoda. So he made sure that Skywalker would show up and reignite Dooku's jealousy.

Well it wasn't Dooku's jealousy it was he saw Yoda as having betrayed his trust like his earlier friend. Up until then Dooku trusted and held Yoda in utmost regard. However when Anakin and Obi Wan arrived Dooku felt it was Yoda who had brought them to take advantage of Dooku being there. As such the last bit of trust and idealism in him died. This is shown in the last passage of the book from Dooku on the beach at night finding a shell. "But there was nothing. Either the shell was different or the sea...or he himself was. Perhaps something inside him had broken so completely it could never be fixed. Scowling he crushed the shell and returned back to camp."

Yeah I came that same conclusion the Palpatine had alerted Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker that Yoda was meeting with Count Dooku and Palpatine also knew what would happen so that makes sense as I'm watching the story towards the end it makes a lot more sense I'm glad I'm nothing only one who saw that

Dooku probably didn't care much for the Sith grand plan at all. He was more of a grey Jedi that just so happened to be found by the Sith. Dooku even confides in Obi-wan and tells him of the Sith's involvement in the republic. I really think Dooku was only in it for himself and to see the CIS break free from republic corruption. The fact that he almost went back to the light side is proof of this.

@@chancecarlson2023 I figure if Sidious believed for even a moment that Dooku might actually turn back to the light, he would have seen to it that Dooku was killed, as Dooku knew too much about Sidious & his plans. But if Dooku actually did turn back to the light, he would indeed have exposed Palpatine and might even have gone on to mentor Anakin and try to help Anakin learn how to resist the temptation of the Dark Side, which in turn could have resulted in Darth Vader never being born.

Sidious had probably figured out Dooku was not a true sith and had only aligned with him because of the corruption of the republic. Sidious in all likelihood realized that Dooku was probably going to try taking him out and would have no issues realigning with his old comrades to do it

Personally, I believe Dooku was actually a double agent. Masquerading as a Sith Lord, but secretly getting himself closer to the Sith Lord. He was the only Jedi to discover Sidious. I think he planned to stop Sidious and any other Sith. This is why other Jedi spoke so highly of him. This is why he freed Obi Wan after confiding in him. This is why he never had Sith eyes (only in visions). This is why his master had him killed and took his chances on Anikan turning later. This is why Dooku never actually killed anyone (except for Asaj Ventress, a dark sider). Dooku was actually a Jedi Grand Master. This is my theory.

Dooku was effectively the Gin Ichimaru of the prequel timeline. He aligned himself with and did bad things in an act to convince Sidious he was on the sith lord's side. Only for his true intention of ultimately ridding the galaxy of the sith.
