We only get a couple of these in the UK. Shame. I might have to invest in a multi-region player someday. Awesome collection. They look incredible, don't they - the picture, the packaging. Well worth the extra cash.

Absolutely. And the 50% off sale is coming up in July at Barnes & Noble. I invested in a region-free player last year and it was so worth it. I'm a big fan of Eureka and those tend to be Region B locked. I'm happy I took the plunge and it wasn't expensive. About $150 on Amazon for a nice Samsung that works great. Good luck whatever you decide. 😃

I absolutely worship Criterion, but I am mortified that they do not take their library and automatically upgrade them to blu-ray. I also hate that they allow their library to become unavailable like "La Strada" and "Nights in Cabiria", two of my favorite films.

Our Criterion Collection selection in the UK is limited but I do own around 25 titles. Most of what is available on Criterion I can alternatively get on the Masters Of Cinema & BFI etc., labels over here anyway so it's no biggy. I just bought Studio Canals lovely Jean Pierre Melville boxset which will arrive from Amazon today. I've thought about upgrading to an All Regions BluRay player mind because there are a few titles on Criterion US that I love & want in my collection like Blow Up, Days Of Heaven, Sundays & Cybele, Asphalt Jungle etc., but they aren't available on Region B.
@MovieChatter015 жыл бұрын
Carl Rees That's funny you mention the region-free player because I just bought one for my living room so I could watch Masters of Cinema and more Arrow titles. I got a really inexpensive one from Amazon- it's a Samsung that was about $149 USD. The only thing is, they don't come with instructions on how to flip between regions. I googled it and all you do is open the tray, put in the movie and press 1 for A, 2 for B, etc. It's really been worth it to be able to buy what I want without having to search for the right region. Thanks so much for watching. 😀👋👋✌️

It is nothing like "Woodstock" "vibe". Monterey Pop: Jimi Hendrix arrived as a rumor, left as a LEGEND. Nothing like "Woodstock".
@MovieChatter014 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying but there are so many people watching that have no idea about Monterey so telling them to reference Woodstock is something they understand. Whatever gets them interested is fine by me. There's actually a stand-alone Blu-ray about Jimi Hendrix at Monterey that I have on order that can help better explain the significance to people who aren't familiar. Which I'll be sharing when it gets here later in December. Everything comes full circle, eventually.
@jnagarya5194 жыл бұрын
@@MovieChatter01 "Monterey" and "Woodstock" were nothing alike. The first was controlled by higher-ups in the music business; the second was a one-off idea by people outside the music business. On the latter see Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock". There are also extras on the full multi-disc Criterion release of "Monterey Pop" which provide details about the organizers (among them John Philips of the "Mamas and Papas"; he was a long-time producer -- insider -- in the business, not an outsider). Associating the two "because" others are unaware of "Monterey" is like recommending that people who've never heard "The Beatles" listen to "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "I Am the Walrus" (Or even "Revolution Number Nine"): context is everything when it comes to understanding what "The Beatles" were doing with those; out of context those are more likely to be off-putting than informative. (The way to "get" "The Beatles" is to listen to their recordings in order of release -- including their playing with background vocals. "Get" their humor and one can reach to grasping those records, and "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)".

Thank you. If you ever want some input or suggestions, please feel free to ask. Also, Criterion does have a streaming service. DungeonStudio I can't believe M slipped by me for so long. It was on my list and I kept thinking, next time, next time. 😂😂 I'm glad I finally grabbed it. I Saw The Devil is a brutal film but what a concept. I enjoyed the thinking behind it and part of the reason I enjoy Japanese and Korean films is that they aren't as restricted as American films, in my opinion. Shoah is excellent and also, emotionally draining. It's good that they break it down into bite-size episodes because by the time one is over, you're done. I highly recommend it but yes, definitely wait for the sale. Thanks so much for watching. I really do appreciate it. 😀👋👋✌️

Hi, Steph: Another great video. You've mentioned SHOAH in at least three videos, I think. One of these days I'll have a chance to watch. What is The Red Shoes about? Looked Wizard-of-Oz-ish. :) Good Morning is intriguing to me as is Eyes Without A Face, which I remember you recommending in a precous video. The Ice Storm is one I saw a lifetime ago that has been on my list to see again. I just remember loving it. There was one scene which I thought was brilliant ... I think it involved a Nixon mask. So many more, but I look forward to hearing your next reviews. I've seen many great films as per your recommendation. REMEMBER, which is still on Netflix, was so good I watched it twice. Thanks for all of the work you do!! So appreciated.

NipoteZia hello, my friend. Ugh how I wish Criterion would include digital copies with the releases but they don't. There are so many wonderful films in the collection. I can't stand the cover of The Red Shoes but I loved the movie. To sum it up- the lead is a ballerina who is under the training of a demanding mentor. He requires 100% commitment to dance and nothing else. It's fine until she finds love... That's what I can say without ruining it. Excellent film though. Eyes Without A Face is great- super dark and creepy with a perfect ending. I hope you can find it on a streaming service. Shoah was one that left me drained. And yes, I do mention it frequently especially around sale time because it's so expensive otherwise. Thanks so much for watching, I always love reading your comments. 😀❤️👋👋👍

He didd some hilarous "drug"-inspired comics during the late 1960s. One of his characters was "Mr. Natural".

Drug inspired comics are usually great fun when they come from the right person. I know Ingmar Bergman said he wrote the bulk of the movie, Persona, while high on morphine. It helped explain why pretty much anyone I've talked to, including myself, loves it but has no idea where he was going with it. 😂😂😂 Creativity comes from the most interesting places.

I should have been more clear on this: R. Crumb did such comics. They also had bizarre perspective, which made "sense": if a cartoon character, such as "Mr. Natural," were walking toward the "reader"/"viewer" of the comic, the feet would be foregrounded -- big -- and the rest of the body, leaning backward into the picture, increasingly small, with the head the smallest. Paul Giamatti made a film -- "American Splendor" -- also "about" R. Crumb.
