Ofc they do, there is a reason why they exist in fairy tales as villains. Stepmoms mistreating their daughters is quite common. It's a younger girl they feel like they have to "compete" with for the father's affection, and they of course lose, so they mistreat them out of jealousy.

Nah. The daughter had the receipts that the step mom was a cuckoo bitch, and a man's daughter should outweigh a random woman who isn't even a mother to any of his kids in terms of preference. Twenty four hours is plenty of time to realize that if a woman will try to sabotage your daughter's wedding (especially after being part of the family dynamic for those 15+ years!), she is potentially capable of more egregious behavior and isn't actually invested in the relationship anyway. Good on the OP for the ultimatum, and good on the dad for stepping up to it so fast.

Trying to ostracize and gaslight OP to isolate her from her father, this is a sign of control.
