Almost ruined his relationship with his parents simply because "she thought" they looked down on her. She has an inferiority complex and OP should not even dignify her question with a response. She needs a reality check and if she can't even apologise for literally controlling OP's life, then divorce is necessary, so I applaud the OP for his decisive action.

The story is crazy and I find it so hard to believe that his parents would do something like that over a few texts? To answer Rebecca's question: how OP's life turned out was not because of Rebecca's thoughtfulness nor her ability to look at the bigger picture. Her decision to reject his parent's offer to join their business and having them cut him off was simply due to her own insecurities of what she believed his parents thought of her. Yes, he had daughters that he loves dearly, but they could've been born if they were Seattle too. Her daughters were born simply due to life just happening, not because Rebecca could somehow see in the future and decide that this was the correct option.

Guys, if something like this happens to you, bring a couple of cameras to the conversation with your wife. One of the most powerful tools you can have for any legal preceding is an incontrovertible admission of guilt by the other party. And you show up to a divorce hearing with her confessing that she ruined your relationship with your parents and cost you hundreds of thousands in earning potential, and you are willing to either settle for no long term alimony/child support, or you will be taking her to court for damages, and you will probably walk away with a much more palatable divorce...

Poor little girl who never grew up and only wanted what SHE thought was good for her. But for Pete's sake don't ask her to move from her friends and family. Scared little girl of the bid bad world outside of her home town. Time to dump this one and get a fully grown woman.

I think that bothers me the most is having to pay your partner money so they can continue to live the lifestyle they had. Why can't they just go get a job like everyone else? I would be understanding in helping them until they get on their feet but not giving them money for years.

So she never expected him to find out eventually?

Imagine how faster they would have had opened a branch in their hometown had he joined them from the beginning ? Thery could have had moved faster and she would have renewed with her friends and family. All would be good.

So they only sent ONE impersonal email and never followed up with a phone call?! This story is leaving out a lot. You’re making a HUGE business decision. It cannot be decided over one email and ONE text message. You need phone calls and strategy meetings. The parents really dropped the ball on communicating with their own child!!

the only issue i have with this is him leaving the kids for so long

How many other lies has she told you ? Trust is gone.

This woman ruined your life through manipulation and you still left the children with her??? She will definitely turn the kids against him I hate it when OPs just don't think about the little ones And if custody was divided equally, why does he have to pay her anything???

A life built on a Lie is no life at all, same with a relationship, if its built on a lie then its not a real relationship

Rebecca can't say what would have happened, and she likely just didn't want any chance to not be a stay at home wife. Seattle is expensive to live in.

She absolutely was getting a Mrs. Degree in college, and a lie that big to start the marriage meant it would never last.

Rebecca was so fucking manipulative to have asked if he liked the life he was living or not. They could've easily compromised by waiting until later for OP to work in Seattle. She didn't even have to come with him. People who love each-other would be willing to spend some time apart and fly to see each-other every once in a while.

So glad this ended in divorce.

Divorce her.

Rebecca is terrible.. She is so Selfish. She should have communicated everything To him. On top of that she doesn't feel she did anything wrong. Glad OP realized divorce was the only option.

After the divorce, I would have used for financial and emotional damages upwards of 100,000 dollars

alimony for what ? Or child support, but 50/50 why would there be child support ?
