You're probably right, but that poor soul couldn't be responsible for the same oversight Jobs had! Not foreseeing that over 500 connected devices to one wifi network might be a problem!
@sireuchre
@sireuchre 5 жыл бұрын
@@Simple_Jackass It wasn't over 500 devices connected to one network, it was over 500 'base stations', as in hotspots or access points, showing up. People were providing their own wifi connectivity via mobile hotspots and such, and it was creating wifi congestion on the band. At that time, basically everything was running on the 2.4ghz band, and there's only 14 channels in that band, and they overlap. Radio transceivers (which wifi is a radio device) can only handle so much crosstalk at a time, so the effective throughput drops to nil. In the new Apple owned auditorium for their press events, I'm going to bet they provide an extremely robust wifi service, which would help avoid this issue. At the time of the event shown here, they had to rely on someone else's infrastructure.

SirEuchre - the implication in the video was that everyone in the room, on their various devices, contributed to the problem, just went off what the man said... whatevs...

+Átila Santos NO, it's not about sharing a single wifi router, it's about the 2.4Ghz band being crowded because people use their own pocket wifi devices and it interferes with the presentation's wifi channel (there are only 12 of them but 3 non overlapping channels so technically ONLY 3 should be used to make the wifi signal clean but in there there were 500+ wifi networks up!!)

Say what you will about this keynote, but Steve really handled himself well. He knew it wasn't working, and he acknowledged it. Now, compare that to the debut of the Surface tablet from Microsoft. The guy was visibly uncomfortable with the fact that this supposed "iPad killer" wasn't working. All I have to say is- hard to look cool when that happens. Even when the product isn't working, Apple somehow still makes it look good.

No, that won't work. I am pretty confident that the demo phone were using some designated wifi router while the audience were using guests wifi. But the thing is the bandwidth in that space is shared. There is simply no way that 2.4G wifi could handle that large number of devices no matter how many routers you use. Situation would have been better if there were 5G wifi.

Why would he? It wasn't the employees' fault that the radio spectrum was crowded.

On my view: This is the best marketing trick he used and which is now used by elon musk on his cybertruck launching. They both made result from this stategy that even kids are talking about it.

I don't know how they didn't have a private wifi network separately from the public wifi network
@pineappleroad

The issue wasn’t that there were too many devices connected to a single wifi network, it was that there were too many wifi networks trying to share the bandwidth (people using portable hotspots was the main issue), and because there are only a small number of wifi channels, each wifi network will slow the others down

You have to understand that the 802.11 wifi spec only has a limited number of frequencies available. If there are ~500 different networks all looking for different wifi channels, you'll run out of unique frequencies pretty quickly. When this happens, devices have to sort through multiple networks on the same frequency and interlace data, in effect slowing any networks on that specific frequency. It would sort of behave similar to a DDoS attack. No mobile device would handle it well.
