Had it two times and the pizza is quite good, but the cobbler is godlike. I grew up and still live in the southwest of Germany, so I know at least cobbler-ish stuff with apples. We call it "Ofenschlupfer" (oven crawler). Hot or cold with vanilla sauce and a little powdered sugar... hell yeah! Pizza and cobbler - one of the best MRE I ever had.

Had to live off them during hurricanes and it was honestly a surprising step up from what I was used to eating. Some of them were truly eh (not a fan of chicken & noodle nor the sides that came in mine with that particular entree) but most of them I really enjoyed. My uncle told me that in France during WWII him and some other US Army guys would get fresh apple pie on the front line. They purposely left some for the Germans to get which really messed with their heads. The Germans taken prisoner said they knew that the war would be lost because we could get fresh apple pies to our front line and they couldn’t even get food or fuel. It was a hell of a morale booster for our men too.

I ate many MREs here in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. My very first one was Beef Teriyaki, and let me tell you, it was the good stuff! Compared to the little we had to eat in those isolated days, MREs were a glorious discovery! Also, opening an MRE is much like opening presents on Christmas morning, you never know what you’re going to get! I brought one out with me on the Mardi Gras day after Katrina as my lunch, and it was great!
