Hello again :) Recently had some knee pain, went to a physiotherapist, was taught to pay attention to knee tracking. When I started paying attention, I noticed especially weakness in my outer glute, as you've mentioned (my physio did not mention that). I got a bit lazy following my physio's recommended exercises (lunge with small weight in outstretched arm, etc.), but decided to do some stair climbing while deliberately keeping my knee properly aligned above my foot. It was eye-opening how much my outer glute on the bad leg/knee ached at first. After a few months it seems to have resolved :)
