I’ve been training since I was a teenager on the farm (20+ years now professionally) and cringe sometimes at some of the things I hear other trainers suggest, not trying to shade anyone, but there are levels to this and having a bag of solid techniques that produce repeatable results is everything. I’m ALWAYS thankful of the great advice you share with dog owners - it’s just great to have such a good resource available on KZbin.

This is SOOO helpful! I am an online student and love all of your videos, but seeing you guys with a “normal” dog is just the best. For those of us who are not professional dog trainers, this is the kind of advice and reinforcement we need all the time. Keep it up, Kayl! This has inspired me to try and reconnect better with my teenage doggy that I’ve been a little frustrated with lately 😅

This is a VERY clear instructive video to me as n owner of an endlessly pulling dog. I have heard the explanations before but with dogs already listening quite well. This video the situation resembles my dog much more and now I have a much better concept of the timings of my actions. Cheers Kayle!👍 I feel inspired and have a more clear idea of the training I should do

When leash training, when/how do you allow them to sniff?

Have a Beagle here😊 We are very disconnected on walks due to her high scent drive. Any other tips would be great! We were told by a trainer a zig zag walk is best... your thoughts?

Do you have recommendations on stopping dogs from jumping on the counters for food. Our dog has always been incredibly food motivated. We have never given her people food but from the moment we got her she has been obsessed with trying to take it. We kennel her during meals but the helps herself to what’s on the stove and counter. Idk how to correct the behavior. We now have two toddlers and it’s not always top priority to clear the counters especially after dinner. I feel awful kenneling her for hours at a time but idk what else to do

How can I do this with a small dog without training the dog to be signaled by me bending over to give the treat? Could you make a video with a small dog? My small dog is always jumping for the treat.

I think that Mccandog already has a video with small dogs... something with a long spoon with peanut butter or similar.

How would I get my chihuahuas to stop their annoying barking at every little thing? I've tried multiple things and nothing seems to work. I will also try these suggestions. Thank you
@haventli2 ай бұрын
I just got a little Chi mix a few months ago. Using "yes" moments in the house has really helped. There is a book called Control Unleashed. The author talks a lot about getting their dog to look at them and then release them to something fun. For us, that's treat tossing, running for treats between my hands, jumping up into my arms, jumping in the backpack I carry for her (she feels safe and rewarded in there). But it's way easier if you build the behavior in easy places, like the house. Good lluck.

I love working myself with small breed dogs. I own myself a Chihuahua, and leash trained my sister's Chihuahua. Its super easy with the small breeds.

I wish I could train my dog. I have tried , I still try, the vet today said she clearly has ADHD issues . She eats very little gets alot of exercise, she will not poop unless everyone in the house is sound asleep and it has to be right infront of the same bathroom every time. Every trick, every technique, every suggestion does not work with her. She will go days on her own without eating she is now 9 months old and has seen the vet more than most 9 yearold dogs. I got her for thw cost of her vet bills from the breeder at almost 4 months old because noone wanted her and she was the only dog their trainer couldn't train before they send them to their forever homes. ( plus she was a family friend and knew i would love her) Contracts where that they were fully trained and came with the cost. I have trained dogs on and off my whole life even deaf dogs and never had these issues. She has an acre to play on half of it a cleaned out woods . 3 1 to 2 our walks a day, home where when its not training and on leash time she can run around and she does like a cartoon character. Paid for 6 weeks of training asked to leave and refunded after 2 classes. I can not afford at home training and it probably wont work . She is the lowest of her weight goal but at least she made it with how much she runs around and how little she eats or if she eats. Just like kids with issues you don't give up and i won't give up . I am hoping after a yearold she will calm down a bit , eat more and listen a bit more. She isn't violent so thats at least one lucky point . Her breeder used to half to carry her around in her arms like a toddler so she jumps up thinking everyone wants to hold her that way and people think she is trying to bite their faces because she jumps so high but its wanting a hold and a hug . I still keep her awat from most people for her safty mostly. Yes i hold her like the breader did because she had to be bottle fed as a baby and it comforts her still to this day and bad or not she is my baby and if she jumps for my arms i am not going to deny her .

I’ve adopted a lovely cocker spaniel who needs to wear a muzzle at all times when out and about. We’ve both had training with multiple professional dog trainers, but she can’t help but scavenge constantly and ends up eating toxic things. All of her trainers gave up and said wearing a muzzle is the only solution with her. But this means that she forgets her training after a while, because I can’t remind her with treats and there’s only so much praise will do. Do you have a solution for this?

What do you use as the reward/treat
@finalcountdown32102 ай бұрын
Whatever your dog will respond to quickly. Whether it's some little hotdog pieces, training treats, whatever works!
@beasport5052 ай бұрын
Treats have a heiarchy. It depends on the environment you are in and how powerful the existing stimuli is (ie sees squirrel)
@beasport5052 ай бұрын
You have to have a much higher value treat for higher arousal environment or stimulus. If it's still not working then you are TOO CLOSE to the stimulus your dog is getting highly aroused by

Kayl didn't reward Maple when she attempted to get up without being told she could because you don't want to reward the wrong choice-in this case, standing up to walk away.

My dog does everything I ask with alacrity as long as I have treats. No treats then I get nothing. (And he knows when you have them or not.) I can stack up a dozen commands but there should be a treat in a "reasonable" length of time, otherwise no.
@jessical.3356Ай бұрын
Have this exact issue! Really struggling with my 5 month old lab/retriever mix. He jumps at the treats in my hand, bites the leash constantly.
@deborahbarrett2385Ай бұрын
@@jessical.3356 Keep up the struggle! Mine is 2 and walks harmoniously with me. Yours of course is still teething and hasn't grown his brain yet (sometimes I think it takes longer for the boys to do that). But mine - to show his tricks, or perform "classical obedience" there must be a treat involved. I have faded them those somewhat, but not in a meaningful way.
