There's no way to know that, that's just speculation.. What most likely actually happend was a "ladder attack" where the hedgefunds sold stocks back and fourth to each other at a loss to drive down the price. Hoping it would freak people out to start selling. You can tell that by the small amount of volume which was bought and sold during the shut down. Luckily it didn't work.

Yep, ain't buying the bs excuse. If they have issues clearing transactions, it should not just be one-way. They should have contacted the SEC and Nasdaq or NY Stock Exchange to stop the trade and freeze the price because of unusually high volatility. Not just allowing you to sell and not allowing you to buy to dollar cost average when the price was going down and increase your position. It is obvious it was a coordinated plan to shake the weak hands and for the short sellers to be able to buy at lower prices and close their positions reducing their losses. This is the first time I've seen a market in which you could only sell but not buy. If it is only allowing selling and prohibits buying, who are you selling to? Come on Robinhood, to whom, Citadel? Really shady!

They used the market in for its intended use and in the most basic way all they did was simply BUY and HOLD, with publicly available information and nothing more. What caused the meteoric rise was the over shorting. Using publicly available information is not manipulating the market, this short sellers knowingly took s huge risk when they overdid it

9:20 Hedge funds were still able to buy any of these stocks, they were only disabled for retail investors. I get trying to manage risk, but strangling a stock's value by oscillating the amount you can buy based a target bid/ask to soften the impact on the hedge funds is absolutely corrupt. If it really was about managing risk then it should've been disabled for everyone, and not just buying either. Trading should have been frozen period, sure they might've gone bankrupt from the backlash, but at least then we wouldn't have this question of why the rich were given special treatment.

They don't charge regular fees to maintain an account, no fees for inactive accounts, and IIRC no fees per trade other than those regulatory fees. This is very different from other auto-trader sites that may charge something like 0.5% balance, or $5/month, or the like. It makes you wonder how Robinhood makes a profit.
