Do your friends understand how bad Kirby, Bowser Jr, and Little Mac are? They clearly haven't seen their huge weaknesses. Ridley at worst is the lower end of mid tier. I think he could be closer to high tier if the bugs weren't there from the beginning and people could figure out how to use him better.

Awesome! I was hoping this one was next! When I first tried Ridley, I honestly thought he was really bad. He was Combo Food and his Up-B killed you more than it saved you. However, after I practiced with him a lot, he's actually very scary, and way faster than he lets on. I'm especially a fan of the Down-B, despite its gimmickiness. It's just so satisfying to land!

Nair is not just a get off me tool, it is his swiss army knife of all his moves, you can literally use it in any situation and is a constant damage hitbox you can throw out safely.

There are a few ways to punish how your opponent gets up from a Ridley sweetspot down b: 1. If they stay still, downsmash 2. If the getup attack, downsmash or side b 3. If they roll towards Ridley, downsmash or grab 4. If they roll away, side b 5. If they wait for a reaction and then get up, try to read it by charging a smash attack I know all this because I am a Ridley main. Yes, up b is a very satisfying spike to get.

@@christianprevost8455 Ridley's F-tilt can be aimed downward (or upward, which hits pichu's short hop) if you angle down/up and to the side (think northeast/southeast on the stick), and can be great for keeping smaller characters away.

Actually, Ridley isnt a Heavy. He has the Statue of a Heavy, but his weight is actually in the Middle with Samus etc. EDIT: Hes actually exactly 1 unit lighter than Samus.

As a Ridley main, this has helped me a lot, so I'll also share a little trick about his Side Special. I've noticed that if an opponent mashes out of the move, there's usually the perfect space and timing to pull off a long jab string, likely almost equaling the damage of the special had it continued.

Fyi there's a lot more to know. Even those pro level players who aren't sleeping on the character are missing out on major aspects of Ridley's options, especially his full hop conditioning tree. In he has a lot of powerful situational based applications that each apply to specific sets of matchups.

Zelda is being hugely slept on right now. She's a beast. I've played her the last few games in the series, but playing her in ultimate completely catches other people (usually more talented people 😂) off guard, and I'll take sets. If you are trying to edge guard with neutral special but they get to the ledge you can jump and then dair when they get up, it usually works 1-3 times in a row

Don't forget you can also do a Ganondorf Kill with the Side B, when you're Off The Stage. Keep in Mind, that he will be killed First when doing this. Also on most of the Normal Stage he will end up killing himself with Side B. This includes all Stages where the ground continues offscreen because Ridley goes straight forward until you reach an Edge to throw off the enemy.

I personally hate how his Air Down A is nearly the same thing as his Up B while holding down. Even visually, it's simply Ridley falling downwards with his feet first. I think his Air Down A should have been his classic "pogo-tail" attack from the Metroid games combined with Link's Air Down A attributes. If it connects with an opponent, it would cause him to bounce slightly and strike again like Link's move.

Down b to down smash works if they do reg getup, roll toward, and I think jump also. Only doesn’t cover roll away. And depending on the character I think it can kill from 0%

If you need to check if a follow up is guaranteed, you can change the training frame rate to freeze frame. Then, you can change the opponent's settings to "control", and then buffer the attacks at the same time, when the frame is frozen. When you press the button to unfreeze the game, if the opponent does not begin their animation before you hit, the attack is effectively safe.

So first off the dtilt has alot of range! The hitbox extends a little off the tail. His jab can interrupt even zss jab combo. Cool note on bf ridleys side b can grab under the plat from standing on the side plat

Down b is the heavyweight killer. The problem with it is it’s demanding sweet spot, but the large hurtboxes of heavies counteract that. It also 1 hits k rool’s armor.

Also something you may have forgotten for his neatral B/special. If you are holding B as Ridley and someone hits you from the front you wont take any knockback from the attack. You will unfortunately take the damage but no knockback.

Oh yeah, this ridley combo only works at around 16% or lower, but grab, pummel(that's what's it called right?) 2 times(or a risky 3 times) then down throw, then down b. The reason you need to do it at a low percent is because the range will be perfect to get a correct down b. Then, depending on how the opponent reacts, you can do a follow up. Like down smash or down tilt.

hey, hey... want a tidbit about a... Ridley tech? you have probably figured out by now that you can "Ridleycide" by grabbing your opponent with ridley's side b while off stage, but there is a way to do this without losing a stock. i call it "False Ridleycide". first, you have to initiate a standard ridleycide, but, just before you go offscreen (wait any longer and you won't recover), you jump cancel the side b. if you are facing the stage, the opponent with bounce off/ fall under the stage, and confirm the kill, and you can safely recover. of course, if you are facing away from the stage, a standard ridleycide is more foolproof (unless you are at 1 stock), but the false ridleycide is still an option when facing a character with bad recovery.

Ok real talk, you said ridley’s Nair is a good “get off me tool”, and that’s not completely wrong, but there’s so much more to it. Short hop Nair should be your primary move when you’re in neutral. You want to create space with it forcing your opponent to be where you want them to be. Ridley’s Nair is actually the move in his kit, and if it’s not the move you’re using most every game, then you’re doing something wrong.

Ridley's Dair doesn't spike though, it will actually launch your opponent up and in the direction opposite the side you hit on.

There's a spike hitbox right in the middle. If you try it on a grounded opponent, you'll heard the sound cue that tells you it's a spike.

Cool! Fair reminder that ZeRo put him at bottom low tier. Here's what he thought about him, as per patch 1.20: "I don't think Ridley is the worst in the game any more. His neutral air (Nair) carries him as a character. He can just Nair and fery few characters can approach that. His side B command grab is quite good. The problem with him is that he doesn't have a bunch of good moves. He has: Nair, side B, forward smash, up smash, up tilt, down tilt, down throw... and that's it. I feel like every other move, I don't use at all. He relies on the same 2-3 moves all the time to make him work, and I feel like he gets really predictable as time goes on 'cause you know Ridley's gonna Nair, or side B, and then you just space him out, you cover both options and he can't approach you any more. He can't camp because his projectile has a lot of lag and it's very predictable, and he has to charge it all the way to make it good. He went from probaly the worst character in the game to being a little better than that but not significantly better."

I main Ridley coming from Charizard, in 4, Wario in Brawl, Falco in Melee and Cpt.F in 64. Ridley's game is risk, all good moves and combos require risks and a good read, in addition, you need to constantly adjust your play style in one match as he is easy to read and punish, so you have to fake people out. It has made me a better player and although I have considered giving up on him a couple times, I keep going back and getting better, it's a psychological thing, if you can land a side B or a Skewer, you will make the opponent defensive, giving you the room to punish them with fireballs and forward air. Anyone can be good with Gannon, Snake, Polutena and all the other to tiers, Huge knockback,range, projectile spam and counters, scrubs chose the easy path.

I came up with a "combo" for Ridley, pretty easy to do, but it can be exploited if you know how to jump 1. Charge up neutral special from a safe distance 2. Release 3. By this point, your opponent will have done of 3 a. Jump to dodge, in which you should give up on the combo (Bad) b. Shield to block all the fire blasts (Good) c. Take the fire blasts (even better) 4. If it is b or c, dash towards your opponent 5. Press A to dash attack on your opponent 6. Your opponent will be caught off guard if B is chosen and won't have time to react if C 7. Your opponent will have been launched off the ledge (Probably, considering you charged up from a distance) 8. If your fireballs do enough damage, they will die most likely, or if they were already at a high percentage How do you guys think of it?

I played Ultimate once against a beginner-type who‘s been playing for some time (he doesnt know about di, shielding or dodging) and just went [Down throw->Skewer->down smash] he went too but his Inkling main self coulnt get it
