I put SMEs on short rifles while waiting on suppressors to arrive. They concentrate and direct the report away from the shooter well but I have nothing to compare them to and I have not tested in an enclosed space. It was interesting to hear your report adjacent to you and again down range as it banked off hillsides. I don’t know what you could gain from comparing down range reports from different suppressors but enclosed space comparisons would be valuable. Great content as always.

I have a .30 cal SME and a naughty 9. I’ve fired an AR-15 chambered in 7.62x39 with 16” barrel with both. My assessment; in both cases, I got what I paid for, even in light of the fingerprinting, transfer fees and tax stamp. The SME takes the edge off the noise and the recoil, nothing more. The naughty 9 knocks it down considerably further. But, it definitely was not quiet, and I doubt it’s hearing safe for a range day with a carbine. I recommend the SME to anyone who is; 1. Too stubborn to pay the tax stamp, 2. Waiting for a suppressor, 3. Lives in a place where you cannot own or cannot hunt with a suppressor. I recommend a Witt machine suppressor to; 1. Anyone who wants a compact suppressor to hunt or otherwise fire very few shots without ear protection, 2. Someone who will own multiple suppressors, including a long, quiet, potentially heavy one and a short/fat one. 3. Anyone who just wants hearing protection on the cheap.

How does the SME compare to a KAK flash can? Is it enough to make it worth the price if I already have the KAK slimline on my 12.5in 6.5 Gren?
@Ki113r2103 жыл бұрын
having had a 16inch 6.5 gren with a 3 chamber brake on it, the idea of a 12.5 inch scares me. that 16 had enough concussion to it i could feel it in my steel toe boots under a concrete shooting table
@luckyomen3 жыл бұрын
It's about on par with a 9mm blowback since I got an adjustable gas block tuned right. The KAK flashcan does pretty well, but I would consider upgrading if the 175$ price tag is justified for this product. the reason your rifle is so jarring is due to the muzzle brake, it deflects things back towards you, as well as providing more resistance to the flow of muzzle blast, allowing more air turbulence thus creating more noise.

I still really want to see the effective differences between the Big Body Tu-Tu-Three and the Canooter Valve. I've got a couple of 5.56 rifles, a handful of 22lr guns, and ways to shoot them at very high rates. The guns range anywhere from a 4" barreled 22lr pistol to a 16" 5.56 rifle, including my baby: an 8.26" 5.56 SS piston gun. That short of a barrel length with a high rate of fire means that trying to suppress it is a bit of a bitch without burning things down entirely. It also means that I am going to need a stout, full-auto & SBR rated can, preferably which can be cleaned intermittently if firing 22lr. That said, I also don't want to add a full pound to the end of a rifle, especially if it's one with an 8-1/4" barrel capable of firing 600-700RPM and already weighing 8 pounds.. So from where I'm sitting, the Canooter Valve seems like the best option under $500, but I'm a bit concerned that it won't be quite efficient enough to adequately quiet down the gun. That's why I've been considering the Big Body, though the weight is also an issue. If I had it my way, I would be able to buy a Form1, machine a few inconel/stellite baffles within a titanium housing (which gradually taper down in thickness from the threads to the endcap for weight/balance) and have the ideal can for all of these guns. But that's still going to be a challenge considering the cost of the materials and difficulty to machine. Ugh...I guess we'll see...
