Worth mentioning: Geraint Thomas forgot to take off his Gilet before the TT Ganna had a slow puncture Louis Meintjes did a surprisingly good TT stage conditions were getting better compared to what they were for roglic and vingegaard when Pogacar set off so you can't really draw conclusions from their performances except they are all clearly on a great level.

So did NBC Sports until LaPorte was ahead of WVA at the halfway point but then . . . THEN They realized there may be a possibility but it was a total surprise that it was Lampaert. The commentators didn't even know he was doing as good as he did until 2/3 of the way thru and then they started saying "🤔hmmm, well, maybe, could it be, it looks like, and Lampaert wins!"

The tour has just begun but already Pogačar is looking invincible. He's the most dominating TDF rider since Armstrong and so far there's no hint of the kind of criminality that Armstrong used to get where he was and to stay there. There will always be those that dope and it would be hard to imagine there's no one in this years tour that hasn't doped. Pogačar dominates because he has no weaknesses, he doesn't have to be the best at any single aspect, he's just so good at everything that he rarely loses time.

@@martin3203 Yeah well he is in second and he won the previous two tours. He started the tour looking invincible until stage 11 I think it was when TJV exposed UAE and worked Tadej over pretty good. He cracked, lost 2.5 minutes, and then today, or yesterday actually, WVA powered Jonas to the win and once again TJV team tactics ended Tadej's tour. It looks like a combination of Tadej having a bad second half to this years tour and his team being totally outclassed by TJV. This loss should force UAE to reevaluate how they compete for the tour.

I looks like Roglic will take Pogacars wheel and let Vingegaard try and shake things around. . Pogacar best line of defense facing dual threat like this is to attack him self and put some distance to both or either of them early on in the race... Besides that 5th raceday looks like a huge challenge for Pogacars team (UAE) as they face four of the best cobbelstone riders this year from team Jumbo... This TDF looks like the best/difficult race in year.

Lampaert's strength has always been 10-15km technical time trials. Seems to work for him. What about the socks ? I thought the UCI rule is "“Socks and overshoes used in competition may not rise above the height defined by half the distance between the middle of the lateral malleolus and the middle of the fibula head.” - clearly Lampaert's socks are longer :) not that I care, but if it's a rule, why isn't it enforced ? Although there were quite a few riders with similar socks, not really a big difference anyway. Two covid positives in the quickstep team, including the guy Lampaert was hugging with for minutes after the finish. If covid is still a issue, I don't understand why riders would risk doing that and not celebrate while keeping a distance.

in 2020 he was given free reign to attack after he lost time in the crosswinds and was able to sit on Jumbo train all 3 weeks. In 2021 roglic crashed. Even on the stage Pogacar took 3 minutes in 2021 the others did surprisingly low power and his performance power-wise was not exceptional compared to his other performances. Its not delusional to believe at least Jumbo Visma have a chance to win this time.
