I think there’s something to be said about Mike winning out being more impressive that certain other winners winning out, just because of the fact that he knew for a fact that he needed to win every challenge that he won, as opposed to someone like JT who just kind of incidentally won all the challenges he needed to, not entirely aware that he would have been voted out if he lost. The mental strength he exhibited under that much pressure is one of the most impressive winning feats in the history of Survivor in my opinion.

It depends how you look at it. His immunity run was impressive for sure. But my ideal winner is somebody, who has control over the game, manages votes, has 6th sense of danger, has great social skills to manage people and work with them. Mike simply played "singleplayer".

I dont see my answer (even though I posted it), so I will try again. While impressive run from Mike in challenges, it has one flaw - for me survivor winner is ideally somebody, who has control over game. Somebody, who navigates votes and even in weak spots knows, where votes are going and can sway people. JT simply controlled the game together with Stephen similarly to Wendell and Domenick. He might have been saved, but at the same time, he got himself into the position of being huge threat. Mike never was not big strategic, social, control threat.

Real fun video to watch. On a side note, I'm a bit surprised but also happy to hear u would actually vote for Russell not only in Samoa but in HvV. Shortly after both seasons aired, there were many people sticking up for him but much of that support seems to have vanished. All to say, good for you on standing your ground. Many people nowadays totally dismiss anything that is remotely positive about him and totally ignore his game just cause they dont like him and because he is disliked by other fan favorite players such as Sandra.

I don’t know why you’re unimpressed with Denise’s game. I find it to be a masterclass on how to win survivor; The fact that she went to every tribal council and survived wasn’t only out of luck- she was able to adapt and connect with people, while also being a strong player - but just enough not to be considered a huge threat. Pete said on his AMA that everyone on Tandang was upset by Malcolm’s betrayal and that they would’ve voted Denise anyway- (Except RC lol). Penner also said in his “The Jury Speaks” video that Denise was the strategic brains behind the Matsing alliance but made sure only Malcolm got his hands dirty. Even her Winners At War game, which is far worse, she shows how well she can adapt. It might be a boring strategy but she made a flashy move and then played under the radar until she wasn’t targeted. She somehow managed to successfully utilise the Zane Knight strategy which was hilarious to me - but I think losing Kim was a kill switch for her that season.

We’re talking about the *game*, not the television product and while you’re correct we can’t factor in our emotions in a situation we’re not in it seems emotionally illiterate to make a very emotional decision without the insight of what spending time with these people is actually like. Maybe my argument is this list should be “Who I think should have won” rather than “Who I’d vote for” because it seems kinda silly to act like you’re making an objective decision when people who are for the most part are reasonably intelligent don’t think these people deserved their votes for the way they conducted themselves. Assuming everyone - yourself included - is going to act “rational” all the time especially in a game of emotions and relationships is rather irrational.

I always enjoy your videos but disagree with some things you consistently factor in. I can talk about rewarding winning a challenge when needed, the biggest issues are your lack of respecting great social gameplay and not accepting poor social gameplay as an eliminating factor, a la no way should Russell get more than he actually got in his two F3 appearances and no way should Rob be rewarded over Amber. But even moreso, you should try to recognize when a player makes or doesn't make a move based on what they have. If you have an idol and know you are safe, you might say something to a player knowing it can test what they do toward you. Amanda saw Cirie try to vote her out in Micronesia willingly at F6. She should have used that against her later, but the safety allowed her playact at that point. You would rightly think she would do more to scramble without having an idol in that instance. I wouldn't demerit her lack of movement because she knew it wasn't necessary. (I would still vote for Parvati, but...) So you should rethink that "having control" is the best be-all end-all. Stephenie, Sash, Coach, Mike, Colby - the show is littered with people who have control but don't see the better social player is sitting next to them and social will always have more agency.

Force a tie between Bob and Susie and Sugar would break it in Bob’s favor, and Sandra beat Parvati in a landslide. Better to save your first choices in those seasons from the indignity of zero votes.

I think the problem with Neleh is she didn't play the game until the flip, something she repeatedly admits to during final tribal. V played the whole way through, and even though she had to make the moves she did, a lot of people don't do what they have to to win. Her endgame maneuvering even after losing her #1 is still impressive to me, not only getting to the final but avoiding going against Kathy.

The fact that you have such bad social capitol that you have to rely on something that could be inherently luck is pretty damming. Where it takes a very specific set of immunities that Mike can win to make it to the end where imagine if there was a charades challenge. Mike can’t win guaranteed that and he would go home and the reason he would go home is solely because of his own poor social play

It's just a matter of perspective. I similarly also look down on challenge wins just because for me, and I assume for TMR, the strategic game is way more important because it's more of what the game is about and a much safer way to get to the end. Usually, needing to go on an immunity streak is the result of bad strategic decisions which are immediately knocks against someone's game. And starting to win a lot of challenges even when you are safe is still a bad decision strategically because of the target it puts on your back. I most respect challenge wins specifically if it's record-breaking, if someone wins 5-6 challenges, or in the event where someone specifically threw challenges with the strategy of going on a streak at the end against less physical competition. Most of the people he doesn't respect like Ozzy, Mike, Nick, Ben, Bob, etc. did something poorly to put themselves in a position where they needed to win challenges/find idols respectively.

Challenges are more a matter of luck than strategic or social ability. You can get given a puzzle comp, a competition more suited towards shorter people, lighter people, bigger people, and have no control over it. If you have a great social and strategic game you can put yourself in a position that you can only get taken out with a twist

Everyone saying challenges are a matter of luck needs to look at Carson from Survivor 44. Survivor reuses challenges. Most challenges are physical, mental, or both. It does take luck to win ANY game of survivor. It also takes skill. The slogan is “Outwit, Outplay, Outlast”. Outwit is the strategic game, convincing people to vote your way and keep you safe (I would also put finding idols under this). Outplay is the physical game, the challenges. Challenges have always been a part of Survivor meaning they have always been a way to win. I just believe you can’t put the strategic game on such high a pedestal that you forget the other parts of the game. I think the social game is the most important thing in survivor anyway. The reason the show is so good however is that being good at the strategic game and challenges and even social game can make you a huge threat. All parts of Survivor should be weighed almost evenly and should not be looked down upon in my opinion.

I don't understand why you don't respect the fact that even when the person knows they are next to go or at the bottom they have the ability to change it. They do what they have to do to save themselves from that position they are in (whether it was by winning immunity or getting idols) and try to reach the final what makes them even more incredible to me. I may be wrong but weren't the challenges Michele won in Kaoh Rong meant to be the next two immunities. With the circle stacking puzzle and then the one that eliminates a jury member. Doesn't that mean she wouldn't have gone home because she won both of those challenges, and Joe was never going to win any of those?

Your summary of Danni vs Steph is perfect. Steph did things Rafe wanted and was controleld by Rafe. Danni likewise controlled Rafe (and to a lesser degree Steph) especialy by the end, with Rafe doing things against his own interest for her, the way he was getting Steph to do for him. Which makes it an easy call for Danni over Steph.

I think for me, the main vote I'd probably vote differently on is the Russell votes (I just think his social play was so disastrious that as a juror, I'd have issues just wanting to reward that), and Ghost Island F3. Dom may be more strategically active in the late game, but he overplays throughout for 0 reason, and it almost blows up the entire Naviti's games. The whole Morgan blindside is almost entirely his fault for being so openly against Chris that the Malolos were able to basically vote out whoever they wanted, and if the new Malolo tribe didn't suck at the challenges after, Dom would basically be screwed entirely by his own actions, while Wendell probably gets saved by his relationship with Laurel and Donathan. By the time of the endgame, all of the people closer to Wendell than Dom are left except Angela.

Lisa didn’t play for half of the season imo and spent most of it crying about the game being “bigger than her”, she didn’t win a single challenge. When she finally got power in the game, she just let Denise and Malcolm decide everything for her. She only tried to make one move (after finding Malcolm’s idol) but failed and just did nothing until the final four lol- Sure she was never going home but she did everything Denise (and Malcolm) told her to do and Denise completely rode her into the finale. She was never targeted because she was clearly a goat.

Those being Erika choosing to participate in Do or Die, in a 4-3 majority, where she isnt at all in danger, or a threat, why would she choose to play a game, where you know the person who loses has a good shot of going home, when she has a track record of going out early in every immunity. She is incredibly lucky Deshawn messed up, even Liana recognises that the odds arent in her favor to play when she was the most in danger, incredibly terrible move from her. Second is Maryanne getting rid of Omar too early imo, surely Romeo is the best vote out for her, then get rid of Lindsay first as she's more likely to win fire or an immunity, then get rid of Omar as he's likely to lose immunity to Lindsay, Johnathan or Mike, in Maryanne's game, she is entirely dependant on Romeo winning final immunity and bringing her to the end, Romeo never showed any comp prowess and was a huge surprise to everyone when he beat Johnathan and Mike, and to add on the chances of him giving up the win for you, 99% of the time you get Baden's who dont take Harry. I think its an incredibly hyped move that didnt have much forethought in it.

I don't think you did Sophie's game justice here. Sophie didn't hitch her wagon to Coach and let herself be dragged there. She was actively shaping the game and pulled Coach and Albert back from making stupid moves for their alliance and moves that endangered her. Her pleasure dome argument to send Brandon out was brilliant, but most importantly, if Coach was the strategic mastermind you think him to be, her argument shouldn't have been even necessary. Add to that that Sophie is actually the one that stops Ozzy from steamrolling and I would argue there was no luck or following or just hoping Coach would fuck up at the end.

I feel like Hannah’s gameplay was the best on MvG but her gameplay was actually too ahead of its time. Say Hahhah plays an identical game but during a modern season then i think she wins the game. The jury wasn’t willing to see how keeping david so long was good for hannah since it keeps her in a swing position for the end game (pretty much allowing her to pick the f3) while being positioned strongly.

Twila being willing to take Chris over Scout isn't that impressive to me considering she loses for sure to both. In fact despite that Chris probably beats Scout, Twila probably had a slightly better chance vs Chris than vs Twila when you break down the jury members. The guys for sure vote Chris over both, but also for sure vote Scout over Twila anyway (Sarge admits after the talk of voting Twila was BS as he was super bitter at her, and just testing Chris for fun, even though post show no longer bitter at Twila he would have voted her). Julie and Eliza very likely vote Chris over Scout still, even though it is possible Julie was bitter enough to vote Scout. They both 100% for sure vote Scout over Twila though, even though Eliza hates Scout, she hates Twila more. Ami would vote Twila over both Chris and Scout, and Chris for sure over Scout. Scout is much more likely to get LeAnne's vote over Chris than Twila was, and in fact probably does get LeAnne's vote over Chris, while she for sure votes Scout over Twila. Scout very likely votes Twila over Chris, even if Twila votes her out, especialy as his type of jury speech would never work with her. But if Twila takes Scout, Chris is almost for sure voting Scout. So yeah against Scout her only jury vote is probably Ami, even though Ami is a totally locked vote. While against Chris she atleast has a good shot at Ami, a good chance of LeAnne even though she still lost LeAnne's vote to Chris but is never getting her vote vs Scout. Gets the final jury vote if she takes Chris, which she doesn't if she takes Scout. She could atleast hope Julie and Eliza are super duper bitter enough at Chris to vote her by default, Julie imparticular. While against Scout there is no reason to think she gets either pretty clearly And she gets Chad and Sarge vs neither most likely. So taking Chris is better for her minimal chances to win than taking Scout was. Despite that Chris very likely beats Scout, Chris is still Twila's better shot in a Final 2 compared to Scout.

Hannah and Adam played the same strategic game. Just Adam was way better liked, so of course if they made the end together Adam would win easily. Plus voting for David at 5 while Hannah and Ken both refused to vote David, which really set Adam above Hannah and Ken. Also I strongly disagree that keeping David at 5 for Hannah was smart. It was super dumb. She know she loses for sure to both David and Adam in a jury vote. So she was knowingly drawing herself dead as far as any chance of winning by keeping David that round. It doesn't even matter if she was planning to boot David at 4, she would still be certain to lose with both David and Adam in Final 4. Also Ken and David were super close, so she couldn't even know if Adam won immunity, that she might get voted out herself by keeping David, or atleast have to make fire vs David. Yes Ken wound up turning on David and voting him out, even over Adam, but this is hindsight, you couldn't ever known for sure Ken would be willing to turn on David. If she keeps Bret she is never getting voted out, it is either David or Bret being voted out everytime, and Hannah has a better shot of winning in a Bret-Ken-Hannah Final 3 (I think she still loses and Bret wins but her chances are infinitely better than vs Adam). So there is no defense or argument for that being a good move for her, and IMO is dumb to even defend that move.

I don't agree Colby voting out Mitchell only benefited Tina and was bad for Colby. I agree it benefitted Tina far more than anyone (besides Keith who would have been voted out, so obviously benefited even more), but it still wasn't bad for Colby. If he stays with Jerri/Amber/Mitchell he is at the bottom of the alliance and has a hard time making the end unless he wins out, although he obviously has a good shot of winning out anyway.

I would probably vote Susie in Susie-Bob-Sugar. If Susie does not vote out Marcus, which was her choice alone, none of Sugar, Bob, or Susie make it near the end, so they all owe their spots to her. So considering all 3 kind of suck that is more than enough for me. If not Susie then Bob. Sugar, fuck no. Her "agency" is even overrated, she isn't the one who put the anti Onions alliance together, post show interviews say it was Matty and Ken, moreso Ken. The choices that seemed to be her choices were ones everyone would have done anyway. I think after Bob won immunity the others would have voted Crystal out at 6 and Ken out at 5 (with the votes of Susie, Matty, Bob for Ken) even if Sugar wanted someone else. Literally the only choice she made was choosing Bob to win the game over Matty, since she was in love with Bob and wanted to fuck him. Plus she didn''t even try or want to win.

Funny that I like and fully respect only one winner since WaW - Dee. I feel like in several seasons it was complete miss with casting, as in 42 and 44 were really weak casts, who made tons of blunders and had very weak strategic play. Everybody other than Dee feels like "the best of the worst" as the strongest players were taking each other out since merge and weakest players eliminated those strong ones. New casts need to learn from it, especially strong players - eliminate weak players until TOP6.

18:51 she did do stuff, she was good at the social game and basically succeeded where Russell failed. you act like it was only Russell messing up and natalie didn't do anything but natalie was able to pull the eric move and had so much more social capital then him. All russell had was shambo and basically everyone else didn't like him. Russell didn't even think her plan was gonna work so you could argue natalie was vital to them even making it to the end.
