As a Birmingham fan I can proudly tell Simon he's talking absolute nonsense. We were a League 1 team masquerading in the Championship for the last 5 or 6 years, they didn't "turn us" into one. They've made some bold decisions and some haven't paid off, but they're making all the right noises and it's the most positive feelings we've had as fans now since the League Cup final.

While no club ever wants to go down,there's countless cases over the year's, where a club is threading water for a few year's in a division and eventually go down. And the relegation and the reset is often the best thing that could happen. Clearout of player's, get back to winning games in the lower division which then gets the fans behind you and momentum gets going again

Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday had smaller squad depth and inferior starting 11s. You were equal to the likes of qpr in terms of quality but whilst those clubs turned their seasons round with astute managerial appointments, Birmingham owners made an absolute hash of it, first appointing a fat lad with weetabix for hair and then a bloke who immediately went off on the sick. Simon is right about your owners track record so far. they took a team in the top 6 to relegation. It was a calamitous example of self sabotage. Really odd that you think they should get a free pass for that. Reminds me of when newcastle fans genuinely felt they had a championship level team when they had the likes of Schar, Dubravka, Wilson, Joelinton and Almiron turning out for them

Getting relegated has allowed us to spend more on players and infrastructure than we could have had we stayed in the championship and that squad was never going to get promoted. If we do get promoted the Club will actually be in a massively better position having taken a season out to launch a serious bid to get to the premier League than the financial rules in the championship would have allowed. Knighthead should be applauded for owning up to their vanity mistake with Rooney and putting up serious money to redeem the situation

Appointing Rooney was a massive mistake, acknowledged. Had that not happened blues would have stayed up easily. Even then being relegated on 50 points is extremely unusual. Other than that the owners haven't put a foot wrong. Massive investment, professionalism instituted all over the club, revenue up, fan experience massively improved. Substantial everywhere you look. Plus the owners get the club and the city. Will they want a return? Absolutely. But if Birmingham are an established prem club in a 60000 seater stadium when they sell to the middle east we'll be happy. Cook has done it before with Man City.

We the fans, have moved on from that by all the things that they've done right and this is regardless of our relegation to League One. I 100% agree about Garry Cook though as when asked about the idea of Blues playing Wrexham in the USA. He never once mentioned the fans as a reason why it shouldn't happen. Rooney wasn't even there for more than 15 games. Acting like he was the sole reason they went down, and by extension that it was 100% on the owners, is shockingly bad journalism. Mowbray was turning it around and then fell ill after 6 games in charge. We then had his assistant in charge for a long time who was never supposed to have that level of responsibility. All in all 6 managers across the 46 games.

As an American, the interesting thing to me is the impact Birmingham and Wrexham are having on American sports fans. The NFL has spent millions trying to generate interest in the UK for their league with only marginal success. The reasons I say this are a squad of out of contracted player got rid of dead wood under performers who struggled for a decade . Different fairplay rules in league one. We was always going to spend money on players. Plus the owners would have to pay the previous owners millions more if we got promoted with in a time frame which makes those millions dead money wasted money rather spend that money on the team. Leeds and Sunderland have easily the biggest fan bases/ potential of any club that's appeared in league 1. In fact, this century all the big club statistics (like average attendances, league position, cup runs, finances, transfers paid out, transfers received, training facilities etc) prove that Sheff Wed aren't even the biggest club in their own city.

I think he hit the nail on the head when he said that things need to be kept in perspective. Remember Birmingham dropped two leagues. They really should have beat Wrexham by ten goals. lol. Wrexham is climbing the leagues while Birmingham is treading water.

You sir have no scooby. Birmingham were relegated from the premier in 2011 with a Chinese owner that went to jail for money laundering shortly after. Blues had slowly gotten worse since then from a lack of investment and Chinese ownership and were eventually relegated last season. Our new owners came into the club with almost no time to make a meaningful impact to the club player wise until this season where they hit the reset button.

@@simonmcconnell8371 I think I've hit a nerve. lol. I wouldn't be holding your head up so high given they've fallen two leagues bud. Plus it's too soon to say they'll be promoted. There's a long season ahead and to be honest other teams don't need to beat them in order to get promoted. All they have to do is beat most of the other teams. So be smug all you want. All I see is a fallen team that's trying its best to get out of the gutter from where they were.

Be careful! Look at what happened to Notts County when Munto took over and got Sven Goran Eriksen (RIP) in as managing director and they bought Sol Campbell for 1 game literally and see what happened there! They went out the league as the oldest professional club! Gladly they are on the rise and the season with Wrexham in the National League is a blessing for Notts so maybe there is another Luton in disguise!
