Looking out the window of the plane when i come home to visit my Mum in the UK I nearly always shed a tear for the beauty and greenery that I see below me. Every farmer is my hero. The hours the stress and the costs that they take on to provide food and to care for the "Garden of Eden" we call home is amazing. We need that type of dedication in our leaders to take us through to the future where farmers can be respected for what they do. If our mental health is to be protected than we need to protect the land and we need to protect those that take care of it for us.

It's a great video - really well made as well - can I just say one small thing? this might have been camera perspective - but at 3:03 it looks like your mum walks under the loader with a bale on it to open that gate - if she is doing that can you please ask her to leave a bit more space so she doesnt? if a hydraulic hose lets go when she's opening that gate it would be catastrophic - apologies if it's just an illusion on the film - I wanted to flag it. All the best to you and your mum from our small farm in wales!

In line with the long tradition of British class resentments, in-power-by-default Labour looked around and thought, "let's make the landowner class pay." They should redefine the "landowner class" as thousands-of-acres aristocrats and thousands-of-acres factory-farming corporations.

I wholeheartedly agree with your take on genuine, hardworking, small scale farmers. We live next door to a farm and the hours, conditions and care the farmers have for their operation is amazing. The issue is that the benefits you rightly receive have been jumped upon by millionaire charlatans *cough* Clarkson, Dyson *cough* and the govt is right to find a way to stop this. I agree they need a better way to judge between small family farms and millionaire landowners but it’s hard to get behind the farmers cause when the community seems to have embraced Clarkson of all people as their spokesperson and hero rather than outing him as an obvious embodiment of the problem.

A brilliant short film which actually alerts us to the fact that this policy is in many ways ultra capitalist, though I can see why Jacob Rees Mogg calls it socialist but it is actually a strange combination.... (perhaps a combination known as Communism)

Farmers can quite easily go to the bank using their assets to buy more land, so therefore they can go to the bank and borrow the money to pay the tax once in every generation

Sadly, in this day and age, most people can’t understand the emotional indebtedness to our ancestors, and all the hard work of our previous generations. There’s a specific word for that, but I can’t remember it at the moment. Most go through life without a true sense of belonging, and the desire to pass on heritage. What this policy has done is to completely remove emotion from it all. People who’ve made a living off of taxes, are trying to dictate policy without any comprehension of past, present, future. And to top it all off, with the destruction of the family farm, it won’t even be a drop in the bucket compared to all the overspending by the government.

@atticuskilby5152 ай бұрын
One has to ask, why is it that the small businesses must take all the brunt of the tax load in proportion to what they make? I think we all know the answer. There is no shortage of funds, but a great mis-management of funds within the government. Much more financial attention is placed on outside sources, other endeavors in other countries, rather than taking care of their own.

I think its more so the rich and powerful get the chance too buy farm land that would never ever be sold otherwise, if farmers families are going too have too sell off land too pay this tax, and they wouldnt even consider it before the tax was introduced, its a way too get hold of more land so the rich become even richer

I think the decision to set the threshold as low as it is for agricultural property relief is a huge mistake. Family farms are vital to the future of the country. The changes in the Budget are only going to have negative effects on "small" farmers. I 100% support the likes of multi millionaire Clarkson, Dyson, and Lloyd-Webber paying IHT on the land they own, but not real farmers. It worries me what the government wants to achieve by forcing farmers to sell land!
@seadog63512 ай бұрын
Seems like the primary issue here is that farmers can't earn enough from the land to make their kids to want to be farmers. Is happening everywhere in the US as well and happened recently on my families farm. I feel like there should be an exemption for children who commit to working the land after it is handed down. If you aren't going to farm after your parents pass then it seems like land should be treated as any other form of property.
@Drew-b9p2 ай бұрын
If you read the Communist manifesto there are a list of goals that Marx wanted to achieve.... Most are now in place. One of the remaining goals us to erase the difference between the towns and the countryside. One of the overall aims of his vision was, if you read carefully, to further enrich the bankers.

@tomb21392 ай бұрын
small family farms will remain unaffected. sorry but i have no empathy for people who cant manage paying tax on assets over 3 million pounds. if you cannot manage a multimillion asset while 1/3 of children live in poverty in britain I dont know what to tell you. the uk also has some of the most ecologically dead ecosystems in the planet, in no small part due to farming practices, so no farmers do not protect the countryside
@craigsanderson43302 ай бұрын
You are living in a different world to most people, good luck to you but I have zero sympathy. What nobody says is that many many people want to farm but it’s a closed shop, why didn’t you show your foreign workers? Give me a break.

I am very sorry but this is next level stupidity. So millions kids start their lives with absolutely NOTHING. oh because I am a farmer, so my kid should have this land for free. NO, ma'am, your kid should go out and compete with the world and earn this farm penny by penny. Why when a British soldier dies, he wife has to pay inheritance tax. Why when policeman dies, his family have to pay tax. Why rich farmers should be allowed to get away? Owning a 1m asset is being rich. Most of us live on rent.. come to real England you lazy twigs. 150 acres and you're making £17k a year profit? Probably not the running the place that well tbh. Lambs selling for £200 at the moment and you could raise 1000s in that space. £100k a year over 10 years so £10k a year. I spend £9k a year renting a bedroom. The lot of you don't know how lucky you are and probably got so used to the good life you've not bothered even trying to make more from it. Average acre per person in england is 0.5 so you've got 300x more than everyone else. Credit to your mum but maybe you should be helping to actually make a business from the blessing you've got as 150 acres for 1 lady to manage isn't going to return it's full potential. What I'd give to have your problems.

@@georgedoorley5628 I don't but I work for farmers. As one said the money he's making on lambs another how he's getting £7 per acre to spray pesticides or something and hes doing a 1000 acres a week between him and his 3 employees another having a million pound house built and another saying how he gets £80 per acre every year from subsidises without even doing anything . I've literally heard and seen it with my own eyes. This of course all being said before the budget had been announced and while rishi was still in so now they're all skint. The lady in the video won't be the one paying it her son will and he seem very fit and able to me to manage £10k a year for 10 years while also having somewhere to live with no mortgage or rent. If any do actually go under from this it because they simply weren't capable and somebody else out there will be.
