Love the behind the scenes stories. I had a supervisor at work do the same thing to me (not an actor) and honestly it's more embarrassing for them than it is for the person getting yelled at. Successful leaders don't need to yell to get results. Thanks for always keeping it real!

Right there with you. I once trained for a supervising lead position for the better part of a month and the lead training me had this absolutely horrible, narcissistic, assbackwards habit of 1: critisizing us in the most passive aggressive guilt tripping ways, 2: ALWAYS trying to shake up crap by asking people to do unexpected different stuff at the last minute, 3: making his job (seriously one of the easiest there and I've done just about everything there) sound like the hardest in the place, and 4: outwardly lie to me (about stuff I obviously knew he was full of crap about) to make it seem like others are trying to manipulate me when in fact he's the only one doing that. That's an uncalled toxic work environment. If you stand up for yourself you're damned, if you take it on the chin with a super calm "Yes sir ok yep" you're still damned.

The best managers / supervisors don't dictate your work, they guide you to a place where you feel comfortable doing your work. An employee who has his (or her) manager's / supervisor's breath in their necks will always perform more porely than an employee who is given a certain amount of freedom to direct (for lack of a better word) their own work. Planning is not just a talent, it's a skillset.

Yeah....I HATE when there are these unspoken expectations at work. I had a job once and I arrived 10 minutes early and was about to clock in and my manager came up to me boiling mad and said, "If you're 10 minutes early then you're 15 minutes late!" And I said I will arrive when you tell me to. If I'm supposed to be here at that time put it on the schedule, but don't expect me to be a mind reader That job didn't last long.

I love hearing the behind the scenes stuff from the show. I think most people can relate to this story because everyone has that one boss or co worker with delusions of grandeur that thinks they have the right to treat people badly or condescend to them. It's always crazy to me because if you approach me calmly I will help figure out the situation. But if you scream and are rude I'll lose my temper quickly and put you in your place. Good for Michael for putting the guy in his place.

Not accepting an apology is a power move. Lots of assholes act like assholes, say they're sorry, then engage in the same behavior again and again. For that type of person it takes a reaction like Rosenbaum's to really get through to them that they need to fundamentally change how they interact with others.

If you want "doesn't let someone finish" action, watch any Gayle King interview. I've always thought there could be an SNL skit about her proclivity to never finish her question and as the interviewee starts to answer, she'll interrupt to add more and then more until the subject of the interview will have a look on their face like, "are you done? Can I answer now?" "We have Linda Jones on who wrote this book which I found to be interesting. Tell us about how you came up with the idea..." "Well, I realized at one point that.." "...because as I read it, I thought that it was so relatable" "umm, yeah, well anyway, the idea first came to me as" ".....and it spoke to me in a way that I had never experienced" "that's terrific. So....what I was trying to" "....so I thought all these things you wrote about must've really happened. Is that the case?" "Will you let me answer the damn question???!!!"

I was a file clerk at a law firm where I had to deal with a partner who was very neurotic. It was a very hostile working environment where staff members (male or female) would cry from getting yelled at. So my guess is that the senior partner whose surname is first in the title of the firm, was constantly jumping down the neurotic partner's throat. Thus, the domino effect. The yelling incident occurred when I was searching high and low for a file folder that the partner needed. About three minutes after he first told me, he came to me (while I was still searching) to ask if I found it yet. When I told him I didn't, he said, "Find the fucking file!" Another time regarding a different file, when I again was having no luck, he said, "If my ass is on the line, your ass is on the line!" Around that time, I saw him being very belligerent to a paralegal. After the partner walked off, the paralegal was holding onto the file cabinet, taking deep breaths. He looked like he was channeling Carl Winslow on "Family Matters" when he used his mantra against Steve Urkel, "Three two one, one two three. What the heck is bothering me?" Unfortunately, like when Carl proceeded to attack Steve Urkel after the mantra didn't work, the paralegal (according to what he told me had transpired just one minute prior) stormed into the partner's office to tell him off. This was concluded with him saying "Go fuck yourself" as he left the partner's office. The paralegal preceded that story by saying to me, "It was nice working with you," because he knew what was about to happen, and he didn't care at that point. After he was fired, another partner told me that she witnessed what happened (when the neurotic partner was being belligerent), and she said that he was in the wrong, not the paralegal. Seven years after that incident, I was fired as well, but instead due to my performance, as I held my temper until the very end. I bounced back four months later and am still at the same job (law firm as well) for nearly 12 years, at a much more friendly and pleasant environment. However, for the first time ever at this firm, I was yelled at. About two weeks ago, one of the senior partners (again, surname in title) angrily threw a printed document across the room after I handed it to him, exclaiming that he was already given that document. About a minute later, the secretary came in with the correct updated document. He then skimmed it, and then said to me in a calm tone while holding up doc, "I have it," like nothing happened. Apparently, I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. And he just typically has his moods sometimes. This was evident from about a week later when I handed him a document and he looked at me with a staight face for a few seconds and then winked at me, e.g. just messing with my head. At the end of the day, it's all gravy. NGL though, when I came to him with the document, I had Vietnam flashbacks. LOL I don't expect to never get yelled at, as no employee in general shouldn't have those expectations. But if it's going to happen every day, that is uncalled for.

I had my boss come into the office one morning to dress me down while he walked into his office. He did it right in front of my co-workers, who were taken aback and stayed eerily quiet. I sat for a beat and got up, walked into his office and closed the door. I told him if he ever spoke to me like that again I’d walk. No matter what the problem is he could talk to me with respect and if I’m at fault I’ll take responsibility but I didn’t need to be talked to like I’m some asshole. He was so surprised I stood up to him he stayed quiet until I finished and then proceeded to apologize. He never did it again and we worked for 11 years together.

I was being taught some techniques on the forklift by my department manager and he is so cool, I idolize him still to this day. This trucker is messing with my head saying one thing and my boss is saying another. I finally lose it and say hay (I'll call him Waylon) Waylon, shut up, do you wanna do this? I DPed a film like that (for a Friday the 13th director doing his own horror film, but his Friday was the 2nd or 3rd worst film in the franchise) where the director was a dic-tator. Just an absolute tyrant and acted like it was a $20 million set for the horror film but he was the Fyre Festival of films; ended-up being zero money, not the crew he promised, 14 hour schedule, SAG violations all over the place. Some directors really get off on that "power" and wanting people to fear him. However... I'm a gym nut and I was the ONLY guy he didn't do that to because he was afraid of me, even though I wouldn't hurt a fly. But, as predicted... he ruined the film; absolutely crushed my footage (added tons of contrast, super red look to everything) and jacked the audio, terrible VFX, etc... and then blamed everyone else. Some directors act like tyrants because they know they're not talented and have to be the 'big shot', knowing nobody will respect them based on their work.
