I wonder how the concrete bag would have fared if it had been cured solid. I think the Foster would have punched through through or at least shattered the top. The Seismic would been cataclysmic. The powdered concrete with its enormous number of small scale granular interactions with the slug is a much tougher beast to get through much like shooting through water. Plugging the rough numbers into a recoil calculator, assuming an 8-lb shotgun, I got 77 ft-lbs recoil energy. Which is about the same as a typical .22 LR's muzzle energy. For comparison, your typical .308 or .30-06 has just 17-20 ft-lbs recoil energy in an 8-lb gun. A 350-grain bear-slayer load for .45-70+P or .450 Marlin at 2000 fps recoils half as hard as this slug in a 7-lb rifle, with just 37.5 ft-lbs., as does a .338 Lapua Mag firing a 225-gr bullet at 3000 fps in a 9.5-lb rifle. A 500-grain .458 Winchester Mag load at 2100 fps "only" generates about 62 ft-lbs in a 9-lb rifle.

I was worried about the people there when they shot their first target. That impact sound. To me, that's dangerous ricochet noise. I didn't hear the follow-up zip noise that usually follows such danger so I had a "phew". The slug made the boom-loving kid in me smile.

@@jmsbwr Yeah, .308 levels of recoil are the most that most people will tolerate for more than a couple shots. I had a 7mm Rem Mag, which generates about the same recoil (lighter, faster bullets) and it stopped being fun after about 20 rounds. On the other hand, I got a Knoxx Spec-Ops Stock on my shotgun and can shoot slugs all day without feeling it. The engine block material would matter. It would brutalize an aluminum GM block. Otherwise . . . energy transfer _to_ the block's engine mounts would matter more. Mechanicing at a used car lot that bought most of their vehicles at insurance auctions, we got a Ford Expedition that had one mount broken clean and the other three warped and cracked by a shotgun slug hitting through the fender. Rubber-lined cast steel motor mounts. The engine was basically trashed from running unbalanced, pulled one from a Taurus SHO as a replacement.

This looks brutal. Every time I see these wicked heavy loads I wonder how usable they'd be in a semi-auto 12-gauge with a decent muzzle brake and a beefy gel pad butt stock. If the recoil could be tamed a bit, this may be an impressive load. The rifled barrel worked MUCH better ballistically. The slug is so long, it seems like it'd actually be possible to stabilize it fairly well with rifling. Very obvious improvement. Makes me wonder what kind of accuracy you could get with a more pointed "Spitzer" type tip and a slightly lighter slug as a result.

the heavier round getting kicked up by the muzzle makes sense, the bigger the bullet, the more time passes between the powder igniting and the bullet leaving the barrel, which means more muzzle climb until then. this is why magnum rounds tend to shoot lower than special rounds out of the same revolver, less time in the barrel means it doesn't get kicked up as much.

All powders are high energy if you use enough. There's no such thing as low energy powder, just inadequate load density or suboptimal burn rate. Looks like a Cheddite hull with the stars and 12's I wonder what powder is used, 2.5 isn't in the load books for 12 gu except maybe for a few 3.5 inch loads or 10 gauge. A 3" magnum load with 2.5 ounce slug reloads would be an awesome reload. I will bet it's Blue dot, Long Shot, HS6 as the powder. If anyone knows the tech specs please post.

The look on her face when the target broke... priceless! These would be great for a guide gun, when the hunter misses his shot and a very large, angry animal (boar, water buffalo, T-Rex) is bearing down on you, and you have to stop it NOW.

That sounds like a stroke of genius.. or use noise cancelling headphones technology and rifling for your barrel... Make sure you post research and development vids.

@@JasonWorks-rf1yt Unfortunately these slugs were a massive disappointment. Super expensive, very loud, and the recoil was just as bad as it looks in the video. I really doubt they were subsonic like advertised.

They do some really cool super heavy pistol loadings as well by using a hybrid case design I believe aluminum and stainless to allow a more unique pressure curve to have larger heavier pistol rounds

The only thing I can think of is taking down a Buffalo. When I was a teen my neighbor want to raise beefalo. So he bought 7 Buffalo, 4 cows 1 bull and a calf. He put them in his herd of beef and the proceeded to walk through the fences and out on main highways. Within 48hrs all but the calf were dead. I walked up on them in the woods. They scared me to death. I wasn't used to seeing Buffalo in Maryland. They were the biggest thing I had seen. All I had was a shotgun with slugs. I remember thinking that it wasn't gonna do nothing but make it mad. Those big slugs might have done more but they would have hurt though. Great Video!!

You can usually fit 1 or 2 more rounds in a shotgun if its 2 3/4 instead of 3

Because shooting them faster gets unshootable really fast. Energy is velocity dependent, and energy goes up with the square of velocity. Recoil energy goes up the same way.

2.5oz 12 Gauge slug? lol 😂 my shoulder hurts just _thinking_ about putting one of those down range.
@caffeinatedinsanity23242 жыл бұрын
The lead plate is kinda weird when it comes to piercing it. I found that most often, projectiles that made their way through were made out of a hard material like steel. Also, has to be relatively blunt. Examples that come to mind are the barbell slug, the L5, the dgs thunderbolt (hardened lead), door knob from evan (subsonic) and I think Tim's brass knuckle diablo slug. So I'm seeing a common trend here. Lead slugs like the ppsh and this one, despite being heavy, were less likely to go through

👍 "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. " Or just , "It's going to break something at either end folks !" This round should do well in Alaska, where most animals that can hurt you need something like this to stop them quickly.
