A therapist described it to me as your "lizard brain"-- your primitive reactionary center (autonomic nervous system) highjacking your brain. If you can over-rule it and talk yourself down, using mindfulness, you can settle it down. Easier said than done, of course, but not impossible.

Anxiety is caused by constant stress. You brain gets stuck in a fearful state. Then you fear your anxiety and all the symptoms it causes. You end up in an endless cycle you can't get out of. Once you stop fearing anxiety and stop fighting it. Then you'll start to heal. You have to overcome your fears daily. Just remember. It takes time. Little by Little you'll feel an improvement. Stop being afraid of being afraid. It'll get better.

Dr.Caroline Leaf says them meds are harmful to the brain . She says they even cause worse issues etc. She also says anxiety, depression, etc is not a diseas or disorder. Its actually a response to thought patterns that havent been dealt with. The way to overcome is to deal with and rewire the brian theough the mind by remewing the mind with truth and life and casting out the negativity... It also has alot to do with perspective.. One can change how we see a situation from the past that started the anxiety and as we choose to no longer respobd negatively in time the anxiety will go away. Check out her channel . She also has books n stuff also.. She's a Brain specialist.

I have been struggling with my anxiety a lot lately, I’m just here to let you guys know it does get better. The few tips that helped me move through it were. 1. Anxiety is an emotion not an illness. It’s ok to feel anxious sometimes, there is good anxiety. 2. Sit down with yourself when your anxious and write down why, now face that fear. Mine started with, I am anxious because I don’t want to always fear everything. This slowly started to go away because you physically cannot feel like this 24/7. Lastly, prayer helped me the most. Remind yourself you are strong, you are not alone on this journey, and all things are possible with God on your side. I love you all who are going though this, keep your head up. You are needed here, you are loved, this too shall pass. ❤️

Christina Pickett I think fear and worry are double edged swords, those being servival mechanisms, and if we do not feel we have the emotional tools to deal, fear and worry turns into anxiety, and to me anxiety is a prolonged sense of fear and worry. But I value the "Serenity prayer" when I sense anxiety coming on. Knowing how to react or not react to any given situation is key!

Here are 10 tips I have for dealing with anxiety: 1) Find the trigger and confront it. Running away from the problem rarely solves anything in the long term, but confronting your problems may help reduce the effects of a potential trigger. For example if you repeatedly but yourself in a situation out of your comfort zone, such as with public speaking, then the stress reaction elicited may reduce over time, and as a result it will not be as terrifying to do a class presentation or such (exposure therapy). 2) Harness anxiety by turning the negative into a positive, e.g. if stressed about workload, get it done rather than procrastinating. Or use your experience of anxiety to help others with similar problems. 3) Find a distraction. If you are plagued with negative thoughts, then do activities which prevent you from focusing on negativity, i.e. keep yourself busy. 4) Invest yourself in a hobby, read a book which you feel will enlighten you in some way or start a routine of going gym or playing sports to build confidence and increase endorphins. This also links in with goal-setting. If you set a goal and achieve it then you will get a boost in neurotransmitters responsible for a good mood. 5) Maintain a social network. Often anxiety can make you feel isolated so discussing these problems with a good listener can help you feel connected. Some people may shy away from this in fears of upsetting the recipient. If this is the case then only give a limited account of what is wrong. For example, if you do not want to say that you are suffering from depression/anxiety because you feel they wont understand or will find it distressing, explain it as being worried but not being sure what the cause is. 6) Act as a self-therapist. Personally I wouldn’t want to pay for a therapist as the money I lose may increase my anxiety - because I’m cheap lol, but you may not even need a professional to listen to your problems. Talking to yourself about your problems and brainstorming ideas out load regarding what may help alleviate negative symptoms may help you. Personally I found it useful to go over my thoughts out loud while having a shower or lying down (provided you’re in a private and comfortable setting). 7) Remember other people (even celebrities) are going through the same thing 8) Understand that life is full of tests. Maybe these trials happen for a reason? 9) Music can help, especially when artists discuss issues relevant to what you’re going through. Personally I find Kid Cudi a good listen (Soundtrack to my Life, Reborn, Cudi Montage etc.). 10) Spiritual contentment. Perhaps religiosity can help relieve feelings of emptiness. -Emre

@@DirtRoad83 I just read your response and wanted to ask you a question. I hope you take this with no offense but have you tried Lexapro? I had such severe anxiety where I couldn’t wear shoes because I the hard surface of the soles would make me feel I was going to crush my tongue. My anxiety stemmed around my tongue. I wasn’t even able to say that word or even spell it out. I was over conscious of it being there and took it to a whole mother level. If I went out, I’d have to wear slippers and pat every door in every aisle of any grocery store I went to. I couldn’t walk long distances because I would thing I was never going to get to my destination and be fearful every step. I would spit on my shirt as a self soothing gesture. I would also become voiceless, couldn’t speak and not talk with anyone and had to hide. I would try to be as barefoot as possible. I take medication now and it changed my life completely. I can wear shoes again, walk far distances, everything changed. But sometimes like if I drink too much caffeine, it comes rushing back and I still have a hard time sleeping. But I hope you find peace and figure something out for yourself. I just wanted to share my experience so you know you’re not alone

@@DirtRoad83pls do Gyan mudra/Chin mudra everyday. In a severe case like yours, you need to make it a priority. 1 hour in morning and 1 hour in evening is best for you. It's scientifically proven that Gyan mudra can cure all mental problems. Just do it for a week and you'll start seeing changes. I promise. Join your thumb and first finger together with a slight pressure(not over pressure, also make sure your hand is relaxed and don't have pressure anywhere else, and keep your spine straight either in a sitting or lying position). I do it everyday and it has changed me.

@@PrisyxDyou can try yoga(especially pranayam and meditation). It will give a permanent relief. There's even evidence that meditation can change your brain within 6 weeks. Also, couple it with chin mudra/Gyan mudra. You can start seeing your mind relax by just doing this mudra for 15 minutes, but the longer, the better.

There are a lot of ways that social anxiety manifests itself. The #1 thing for us to start with is understanding where social anxiety comes from. It actually doesn’t come from society. And the label of SAD is a little bit deceiving. It actually comes from your core underlying beliefs about yourself. Let’s break down some of these beliefs. 1 - Unconditional Self-Love It is the sense of accepting yourself fully, being present to the moment, loving yourself as you are without guilt . Once you are able to do that you become immune to the SAD. There is no reason for you to be anxious. 2 - Your Individuality You truly are unique. There is nobody else like you in the entire universe. The sooner you are going to realize that and be able to combine that with USL the sooner you won’t be bothered by any social interactions or events. 3 - Your Emotions It is your ability to express and feel emotions freely and to not feel guilt about that. Emotions are a part of your individuality, your self-love. And be able to express emotions if you are alone or in a social setting. Without having to apologize or justify your emotions. 4 - Finding Solitude There are 2 spectrums. Being alone and longing for company or being always surrounded by people and longing for some alone time. Both of the sides to the spectrum have the same root that your core beliefs of USL, Individuality and emotions are miscalibrated. If they all were set right you would be happy, and not anxious right now. Master Kit is a clinically proven system to show results when working with a mental state. Thank you for posting ❤️

Crying, hyperventilating, my depression mixing with my anxiety, my asthma worsening the hyperventilating. No clue why, no clue how to stop. I pray. I give my worries to God. I beg Him to take my burden, my yoke of anxiety for whatever happens, or for nothing. It's not immediately gone, but when I think about it and talk to Him, I feel it slowly lifting off of me. As if a heavy, immovable weighted blanket was being lifted off of me, allowing me to run and move again. Thank you God, please continue your work and show people your love and helping hands.

I gotta be honest. When I heard he was in 9th grade I instantly was very sceptical. Some kid talking about something he thinks he knows about. But I was very wrong. His maturity is very high for his age and more importantly I really thought there was wisdom in his words. The evidence he provided was easy to digest but also made you wonder a little bit. I think he will go very far if he chooses to pursue mental health in any field.

Anxiety hurts you deep down and there is hardly any moment in a day where i am back to normal but again something starts in mind.I think being communicative with friends and family and being in every moment helps. But there is a thing that everyone has their different way to calm down anxiety and fears. Its been 3 years i am going through anxiety, ocd and overthinking. But i try to be in my shell and not compare with anyone. When feeling and fears control over it sucks.but be positive and do the things that makes you happy.

I believe anxiety is a double edged sword, it can motivate us to do better,or cause us to sabotage ourselves. I for one have experienced both. I have stressed job interviews so much,I did not even go to them, and I have stressed jobs so much I have chosen to walk off even though I had no other income at the time. AND there has been times stress has pushed me out of bed and motivated to do something about my financial situation.

oh gosh, I was the same too, since 3rd grade.... I would feel a terrible pain in my chest and they all thought it was milk intolerance and I had no idea it was anxiety... but my parents never considered ( or maybe did not want to consider) I had social anxiety, but it kept getting worse to the point at high school I could not talk during exams anymore. My family and I normalized it, labeled it as "insecurity". You were lucky your parents did help you. Last year I went back to school and I am in so much fear every time I have to face an exam I start shaking and I paralyze. I started therapy now that I am 30, and I feel more accepting of myself. But I have no balls to tell my family I was diagnosed with anxiety.

Everyday, i pray i overcome them but seems my prayer cant be answered or maybe they are just things i have to suffer with for the rest of my life. At the end of the day, some battles are not just meant to be won, maybe. However, if i cant win them, at least i should be able to manage them, and this is the main reason why i am here watching TEDx Talks about Anxiety
