As I read through the comments, I noticed a common pattern: when someone excels in their current role, we often envision them in higher positions. For instance, some comments suggest that Sumana would make a great Prime Minister. However, rather than merely cheering for her to become Prime Minister, let’s actively support her in achieving her current goals. It’s essential to remember that we lost a talented journalist, Ravi Lamicchane, because many wanted him to be Prime Minister. Unfortunately, we now lack both an effective Prime Minister and a gifted journalist.

To me she is 3 things: 1. A geek who has intimate understanding of the problems and is equipped with practical solutions. 2. A wise person who knows right from wrong. 3. A representation of the new generation Nepal that is not only fed up but also has all the drive to change the status quo. What she is not is, I think , a politician who is skillfully shrewd. Hopefully, in time she will be that as well, and be the Statesman that the country never had. P.S. I listened to it twice.

Great comment. However I think that public has to meet someone like her half way too. Where sound bites don’t get you votes but like she said public needs to be aware and ask hard questions to their representatives. As knowledge comes to center stage and not charisma or flamboyance, leaders like her are bound to make appearances. In a way her not fitting in a stereotype politician makes her a better politician. I would have been more concerned if it was a guy who been to jail for 10 years in his 60s-70s with a high school degree and in a political party for half a century in that stage.

It is true as said by Sumana, that rural children have more freedom than urban children. Freedom is important for children to learn, explore, and challenge ideas while building and sharing their opinions. People need freedom for better decision-making in life.

You are the best and honest leader . Best wishes from core of my heart to respected Education Minister Sumana Shrestha. If our nation is lead by such an expert with honesty, we will feel safe in our own country . Nowadays everyone is very upset with the situation and problems in our country. I also can feel we are made poor, uneducated and forced to struggle by old politicians like Congress, UML and Mao leader. They always gave beautiful and heartwarming speech but never put their words in actions rather they engaged in corruptions and misusing of power for their own benefits.

Sumana Shrestha is a very potent leader in the making. She has perspectives, which I believe is the most important thing we need at the moment- wide wide perspective; the perspectives of broader and diversified ideas and openness to learn further. She has done a wonderful work in potraying what she envisions and dream to audiences through this TED talk. However, after listening to this, I truly believe she could do better in communicating in more powerful way than this one. I mean she should. I would suggest her to work with professional mass communication consultants to work on her mass communication, so that the ideas that she wants to communicate do not miss out with lesser impact.

Great speech and very motivational. Iagree with you when you said “we want a system where we don’t need to know somebody”. Hopefully someday ties will become true. In addition to that, we want a system where we don’t have to rely on quotas based on castes, ethical group or certain geographical area.

Bureaucrats are the hands and feet of the law and policy model of a country. Although they are driven by lawmakers and practitioners, it is a known fact that they often represent themselves with a sense of dignity and self-entitlement. This raises the question of how often do they position themselves to empathize with the situation. The big change that we always talk about in the country is actually massively dependent on them.

Building a strong knowledge base about a specific subject in a country can attract international students and their financial contributions. By offering high-quality education, research opportunities, and favorable policies for international students, a country can enhance its reputation as an educational destination. This can lead to increased enrollment from abroad, thereby bringing in significant economic benefits through tuition fees, accommodation spending, and other related expenditures. Effective marketing and collaboration with international educational agencies can further amplify these advantages. We see a potential on you ❤
